Fabulous Hybrid

They told the truth about the mileage! Rated at 48 mpg, I'm still on my first tank of gas and thrilled that I am currently getting 46.5 mpg. The instrumentation gives continuous feedback about your driving style and what that is doing for gas mileage and battery assist charging. It is very impressive. Now if jackrabbit starts are part of your driving style, you can still do them, but you probably want to switch out of Econ mode and switch into Sport mode. But if that isn't your style, then you are going to be happy with all of the little things this car does to extend a gallon of gas. I had been driving a 2006 Honda Accord EX and my how the electronics and safety have advanced in 11 years! The entertainment options are plentiful and all work well including Bluetooth and Appleplay. On the touring model, the smart headlights (on/off, high beam/low beam) work very well as does the intermittent wipers that sense the amount of rain and adjust accordingly. What is really impressive is that even these automatic features have controls that allow you to tweak the settings and get them just right for you. For instance, on cruise control that automatically slows you down to keep a safe distance behind the car that you are following, it allows you to adjust what that safe distance is for you. So, I've had the car for 4 weeks but it is everything that I have come to expect in a Honda and more!

The hybrid delivers on its promise. Mixed city and hwy driving yielding 40+ mpg. Very low drive noise means the upgraded stereo in the touring model really comes through. Not a luxury car like Acura, Lexus or Infiniti but did not feel like much of a downgrade (came from both a Q50 and TLX). Going into this was looking for a vehicle that really delivered on fuel economy and it has.

I am finishing the lease term on my 2017 Accord Hybrid, and have just purchased the car. It has been completely trouble free for 3 years. The car sips fuel, has a solid, quiet ride, and some features that are nicer than on more luxury oriented cars (for example, when signaling for a right turn, the screen shows the view behind/beside you, which is great for avoiding byciclists. Turn is big, seats are comfy, and I don’t mind the touch screen. There are some collision avoidance features that a little aggressive, but I’d rather have too much protection instead of too little. As I’d read many places, the car does have a bit of a growl that is out of place when accelerating firmly on the freeway. Overall, I would definitely buy this car again. It replaced my 2016 Toyota Camry hybrid, which was totaled in an accident. The cars are very comparable in quality, but the Honda got better mileage and was more comfortable, with a few extra features. Both are great cars, but if I had the choice to make agin, it would be the Honda, just by a bit.

I bought this car used because I was looking for a high end feel and exceptional fuel economy. In the three months I have owned it the car has fully met those expectations. I am averaging around 52/53 mpg on a mostly highway type driving to and from work. I am not an aggressive driver so the 49 MPG claim is probably reasonable for most people. I have the EX-L version. I love driving the car, using the adaptive cruise and the luxury feel. There are three areas that could be irritating. The first is the dual screen information system and the associated steering wheel controls. None of it is intuitive and the manual requires a PhD to work it out and even then you are likely to forget how to achieve the same result a second time. The second is the lack of a split rear seat which, for me was a nice to have rather than an essential feature. The third is the lack of a spare tire. You get a can of leak sealant and a plug in air compressor. If I never get a flat tire then perhaps it won't matter and if I do, perhaps I will be favorably surprised. I can live with all of these and still love the car, which I do. Best car I have ever owned. So, four years on and I still love my car. My overall long term MPG is right at 49.1 after about 60,000 miles. Long trips will reduce mpg, my daily work trips increase it. The biggest factor on day to day variations is temperature. Cold day the mpg drops, warm day it goes into the low 50's. I am not an aggressive driver and leave it on best economy mode. Ironically I have had a bucket load of assorted tire issues from road debris and potholes. The one time it went completely flat the gash was so large the car kit would have done nothing so I had to be towed. I really would have preferred a spare wheel. The car remains smooth and pleasant. I just hit 100,000 miles. With 110,000 miles now, the car remains a joy to drive with continued fuel economy at the same levels as before. Worse in cold weather than the average and better in warm weather. The only big maintenance issue came with significant amounts of water getting onto the passenger side. This was accompanied by the sound of water sloshing around as I drove off or went round some corners. The original diagnosis was a blocked air conditioning vent tube that dumps the water from the dehumidifier. That was addressed by a mechanic and probably was blocked, at least partially. However the problem had not gone away as the next heavy rain proved. The cabin air filter was soaked and covered in leaves and other debris which ruled out the air conditioning, especially as I had just installed a brand new filter. I checked out the sunroof drains and confirmed they were working. I did remember leaves being an issue around the grille under the windshield so decided to look there. Removing the grille also required removal of the windshield wipers and the plastic retainers. Once removed it was clear what was causing the problem. When rain goes down the windshield it collects in a large area a bit like a sealed container which has two drain holes at either end. Both drain holes were clogged with dirt, leaves and other vegetation. Once cleared out,the water drained away. This was the source of the sloshing sound because the "container" runs the whole width of the car and is quite deep. On the passenger side, in the middle of this area is a raised air vent that provides the air directly above the cabin air filter. When the water level got too high it overflowed into the air vent. The way to prevent this would be to immediately remove any build up of leaves in this area. I left a bucket load of Fall debris sit there for months and this was the end result. A lesson learned, but not exclusive to this model.

Ok, so let my start off by saying that this is my 5th Accord between my wife and I. Extremely reliable my other Accords have lasted 250,000+ and we drive 120 miles a day to and from work. So the obvious choice was to get a Hybrid for the better gas mileage, went to go buy the Hybrid the salesman was like well you wont get exactly 49-city and 47-highway but it will be close. NOT !!!!!! I do understand in the winter and cold you'll get less mpg, but come'on all winter ( I live in NJ ) been avg 32-33 mpg, and now that we've had some 50's-60's weather only getting 37, maybe 38 mpg. If you're expecting to get mid-low 40's mpg w this Hybrid, I'm telling you now DON'T it's not happening. Other than that it's a fantastic car, best of luck Honda owners.

I have had the car three weeks now, when I got it, the car had 25 miles on it and a full tank of gas. The dashboard said 629 miles till empty. I drove it with Econ on, Econ off, sports mode on and off, fast and slow and the low fuel light came on at 420 miles. I only average 34.9miles per gallon, hmm was up with that my 2016 Bmw 328i averaged 36 mpg on highway and that was driving it. They say cold weather effects it, but wow, had same issue with civic hybrid does not get anywhere near proclaimed mileage. Love the car but wow mileage estimates are way off, may go get me 335 or 340.

The top three best days of my life…

The top three best days of my life…Day one is a tie for the birth of my son and daughter; day two is the day I offloaded this piece of junk Honda Touring Hybrid, day three is my wedding day. Where do I start? First this car is riddled with vibrating rattles while you drive down the road, in addition to this the infotainment system will freeze and not work at all which requires a reboot of the system/turning car off and on; I have yet to figure this one out when I’m driving down the road at 75 miles an hour. In addition to freezing every now and then if you connect your phone you will be unable to control the volume on the radio. What this means is if you had your radio on a low level or higher level it will stay at this value unless you turn the car off and reboot the system. Once again I have yet to figure out how to turn the car off while I’m driving 75 miles an hour down the road. I have taken this vehicle in for repair multiple times 12 to be exact and it is returned to me every time stating no issues found. The car was so bad I had a lemon law case going on for 7 to 8 months. When I finally offloaded this piece of junk I was ecstatic, I felt like I took advantage of the dealer who opted to buy it. Back to Toyota for me. Toyotas are not only cheaper they are of higher quality and have no issues. I will never think of buying another Honda vehicle in my life and I will make it my point to steer people away from Honda where I can.

When the Honda Accord came out with a new hybrid model in 2014, I knew I wanted this car, but unfortunately, because they were so hard to find, dealers were not willing to negotiable. Now in 2017, being that it is the last model year, I was able to get a substantial discount so I bought this car about 2 weeks ago. I had my first gas fill up this morning and I was blown away by my MPG. The computer showed that I was getting 47 MPG, but at fill up, I calculated 51 MPG! My commute is about 30% city and 70% freeway. On the freeway, I drive around 70 MPH. I am still learning to use all the features of the car and so far I am loving it! I do not have a single thing to complain about. This is probably the best new car purchase decision I have made! Update as of 5/16/18 - still continue to love my car! Can’t find a single thing to complain about!

This car is great. You get value for you money. Its a no brainer with the fuel economy. You fill that tank up and see 720 miles range and you are good to go. The ride is comfortable with noise reduction. Honda paid attention and giving a gap of two years was a great idea to work on the car. Eco friendly what could you ask for more ?

I computed this car would save our family about $5,000 over the 150,000 miles we plan to put on it. I guess the 2018 models are coming in, because we got it for just over $24,000, including the doc fee. This makes it a better deal than the nonhybrid, and helping save the environment a bit.

We got our hybrid exl at 20% off MSRP. Above all things, you have to get EX-L or touring. The hybrid base does NOT have android auto or apple car play. Our sales didn't know this. I really like Honda's two display system. It makes reading map instructions extremely easy. I am an average driver. I tend to follow or get a little faster than the traffic, and I would never slow down for the sake of MPG. I have logged about 1000 miles, and I have yet to see mpg drop below 40 for any trip longer than 10 miles. For my commute, which is 15 miles all local, I got an average 45 mpg, while my other cars, honda pilot got 15 and toyota corolla got 26. This Accord is very quiet, nothing like previous honda's which sounds like tractors. But, the best part is when the EV mode kicks in or when it reaches cruising speed it just goes with little motor noise. I am sold on the technology and hope honda catch up with all electric car development soon.

I live in Colorado Springs but work jobs in Pueblo and Alamosa, Colorado (just life right now). With recent fires over La Veta Pass, had to take the 2017 Touring Hybrid back from Alamosa through Salida, since slower passage ways, decided one time to try and see if I could log 1000 miles on single tank of gas. Filled up Safeway in Alamosa, probably trickled in extra 1/2 gallon over manual gas capacity. So back to Colorado Springs, commuted Springs to Pueblo and back for 7 days and then back to Alamosa, rolled in with 1001 miles with computer stating 36 miles of range but rarely had the car running over 62MPH. Just amazing! I rarely used the AC but had cruise control and lane assist and satellite radio running constantly. If you push the careup to 75-80, it will only snag touch more than 600 miles per tank! So still great car on highway but if your a city commuter, serious consideration over the prius!

The car is so quiet. I think reviewers are making a big deal out of engine noise, because most of the time the car is so quiet, the small amount of engine noise seems greater than it is. Mostly, it is like driving a full electric car. Most of the time I don't know when the gasoline engine is running without looking at one of the colorful graphics indicators. I love quiet, so I notice this. MPG according to the on board trip computer, often exceeds 50. Cold weather takes a big bite into that, often as low as 38. Acceleration is surprisingly quick, more than adequate. The power steering feels a bit vague, but I have become accustomed to it. I prefer more road feel. My 2 biggest complaints will seem minor: the Touchscreen and the trunk latch. Both are dangerous. The touchscreen, like all touchscreens, can't be read with the Sun's glare on it. A rubber shade above it would likely help some. The dumbest part is that I have to take my eyes off the road to see the buttons and stab at them in hopes they will function. Thankfully, it is primarily sound system, phone, and music. All of the important stuff like climate, lights, and such are REAL switches. Except for some important system settings The trunk latch is the reverse of what I usually see. There is a large loop in the bottom of the trunk opening, and the latch protrudes from the lid 3 or 4 inches. The latch is perfectly positioned to knock me in the head at least 50% of the time when I reach in to grab something. I'm average height (5'9"), so you might think somebody in the Honda design studio might have noticed. I have had the electronics scare me a few times. Functions like door locks and hood latch failing to respond, and gauges no longer reading the usual info and unresponsive to prods on the settings via the touchscreen. A "reboot" of the car power has fortunately fixed this, but one wonders how that portends a similar circumstance on a lonely highway somewhere. Overall, I truly like the car. I do find some of the trends in auto design alarming, namely the touchscreen and a focus on a computer running the car instead of me. The automotive future could be dystopian.

Update: 4/13/21 Now that I have placed 36000 miles on my Hybrid Accord base. I am pleased to report that the car has been trouble free. The steering has loosened up in the positive way and It feels like second nature. I have taken It across the US and it has provided enough cargo for two week trip(2 Person my wife is a pat rat) to Yellowstone which it got mpg in the 60s or commuting in the winter where I get 40 mpg. I have put Husky mats in it and the floor looks like new. I upgraded to a garmin and use my Samsung 7 phone routinely through the bluetooth with no problems. The stereo sounds good to me, I use mp3 on flash drive through AUX with no problems. (1000's of tracks easily located). Good radio reception. Comfortable seats and easy access for long or short rides. Handling is superb , Ride is a little more sporty than Toyota but controlled. Lots of cubby holes and bottle holders. Back seat friends have been overall positive about room and ride. Although I am not a fashionista the styling has grown on me and I like it better now than when I bought it. Alas the world is going SUV ask Ford, while the sight lines are fine, it has become a taller vehicle world. My solace against pickup trucks and monster SUVs is better mileage from hybrid technology but even that is changing. All electric may work for some people but I point out Hybrid is recycled energy and plug in is not. Electric needs to be produced by nuclear or fossil fuel in most areas so pollution does not follow your electric car but it contributes at the generating site. Hmm Original: While I am only 6' I have had issued with entering midsize hybrids. This is by far the best to get in or out of including non hybrid accords. As far as dealers go the Honda Dealer (Bob Brady in Decatur ILL ) was very professional and gave a great deal on this homeless 2017 hybrid in Jan 18. While I am new to hybrids I test drove to many to count. Many had gear jumps or grabby breaks and the level of electronic was overkill. I feel sorry for those who dislike the the entertainment systems on the higher models or the exploding moon roofs. I don't miss the second screen or hard to use controls I guess I'll have to get by with my simple knob based system and a 7 inch dedicated navi from amazon for $68 . Leather is overrated and heated seats are miserable like cooking your body in a grill. My last car was 2000 Eldorado which had all of these. My dealer told me that winter gas and cold weather was going to cut mpg so I did not have a cow when I got 40 Mpg on my first tank . I was also willing to play the efficiency game and apply Zen driving. When ever I get tired of it I press the Sport Button and I can be as aggressive as I want. You need to be an adult to drive this car and take advantage of it. If a near fullsize car that gets 40+ mpg and drives like a non hybrid is not good enough trade it for a Mazda. I loved mine when I was a kid.

This is Honda's third try at an Accord Hybrid. What happened to prior model years? What happens to resale value when Honda starts production and then halts production? It tanks! Who in the dealership (s) will be able to work on the car after it goes out of production? Currently I have no faith that anybody in the dealership can resolve any major problems with the hybrid drive and the new technology like lane assist, etc. My sales person did not have answers about the dealership's ability to properly service this car. He was unable to instill any confidence about servicing a hybrid. For perspective, I have owned Hondas for a long time. But the technical excellence of their service departments has diminished over time. They no longer differentiate themselves with their service and maintenance. I still think they build great gasoline cars. But I wanted a Hybrid, so I chose a Toyota Camry Hybrid. Honda needs to demonstrate that they are serious about building Accord hybrids long term. They started up production for the second time in 2014 and 2015 after a long hiatus (2007 and 2008 I think). Then they halted production in 2016 and moved production back to Japan for model year 2017. The primary reason I was given for moving production back to Japan was quality control. QC would be better in Japan. Which takes me full circle. Who knows enough in the local dealership to solve complex technical issues that will arise?

My brand new hybrid is not delivering the mileage it promised. I'm going through gas like crazy.

Just bought it -- we love everything so far -- the style, handling, safety, tech features and gas mileage. Look forward to comfortable but economical longer trips with it.

The Trunk sometimes is shut, but does not latch. Mileage is not as expected based on my driving style. The door unlock is delayed when next to door with keys, could be electronic communication distance between keys and door requires close proximity. Voice commands are not that accurate. Cell phone linkage and phone list operation appears to need work, and appears to be reconnected every time. Adaptive cruise control acceleration is slow. Lane Keep Assist does not track well at night, does not track well with sharper turns, meanders right side, left side, right side, left side, ... when lane markers are pretty wide. When Adaptive cruise control is active, and vehicle in front is 3 car length ahead, car tracks well until turn occurs, where Adaptive Cruise Control (appears to be looking straight ahead, and does not recognize car in front since turn is too sharp, such that honda accelerates, then has to brake hard as it recognizes vehicle in front of car.

This is by far the best hybrid on the market today. Its a money saver without giving up all the bells and whistles in any luxury car including safety, style, and power. This is by far the best car I've ever owned with every convenience found in much higher end more expensive vehicles I've owned in the past 20 years.

Looking back on previous years I don't think Honda met their own expectations. They took a year, moved production back to Japan, increased the HP, refined the car and brought a winner to the states. Know that Honda is discounting this as they desperately want to sell 30K units. In the spring of 2017 I got about 4500.00 off the 30,440 sticker before taxes and fees. I suspect I could have gotten 5200.00 off with a tad more dickering. A fine car, tight and sound. I am making my numbers on mpg and only wish Honda had a 150K warranty on the battery pack.

This car is fabulous. It took a while to figure out the gadgets but okay after a bit. The only thing I would change is put tuning and volume knobs back in the car. It's difficult to make adjustments while driving down the road. The steering wheel controls help but it limits how many channels you can turn to. I average 45 mpg and that makes me really happy. People say the hybrid braking is different. To me it's the same.

Excellent gas milage. I have owned a Honda hybrid for more than 7 years averaging 44 mpg. Comfort and low maintenance. Oil changes and a new set of tires are all I have had to do.
