Had looked into hybrids for a while and am glad I held out for the accord hybrid. I have had the car for 2 weeks and am averaging 46 mpg with a 42 mile commute 1 way. One day last week I pulled a 53 mpg trip. Hybrid expense wise: I purchased the trim level I would have purchased had it not been a hybrid, which is similarly priced with a non hybrid accord. I traded in a RAM 1500 that was getting 18 mpg. The only con is the radio controls: not very intuitive on changing the source through the screen when you have the iPhone connected. Maybe that is intentional so you use a steering wheel thumb with eyes on the road instead of staring at the radio for sources. Honda Sensing takes some getting used to. I shut the lane mitigation off after about 50 miles. 6 Month Review: Still an outstanding vehicle!! Parking lots are fun when you can make the average trip mileage go up to 199.9. I turned the lane mitigation features back on after I was used to driving the car. It took a little getting used to the corrective vibration and mini-torque on the wheel but now I am used to it. It is a good commuter car but a little questionable as a family car, at least with 2 kids still in booster seats and 1 kid sitting in between them. The weight sensor in the trunk is a little odd if your backpack is your office and the seats in the car are full.

Bought the first of these at my local dealership.

It's near perfect. I'm new to Hybrids/EV and almost got the Chevy Volt...but this 2017 is SO spacious and gorgeous. I have the fully loaded touring and the LED lights make a beautiful statement. The car accelerates wonderfully, and it is a very stable drive with great turning radius for its size. I'm not 100% in love with the touch screen/navigation because it can be slow at times, but it's not bad. The interior is luxurious and I love that the backseat is just as nice as the front in terms of comfort and space. The exterior chrome accents and wheels are very nice, and the general shape of the hybrid is sporty but elegant, and I highly recommend you get black! :) mileage is great, especially for those work commutes involving traffic (quality EV time). GET THIS CAR, you won't regret it.

Quiet ride and great gas mileage

The 2017 Accord Hybrid EX-L is my first hybrid car. The average gas mileage has been great overall. Travelling at 65-75 MPH tends to result in 39-42 MPG during summer weather, and 35-40 during below freezing weather. Travelling at 25-50 MPH tends to result in 49-55 MPG during summer weather, and 43-46 MPG during below freezing weather. Gas mileage is definitely lower when the engine is cold, so a second trip half an hour after the first will result in much better gas mileage than the first one. My overall average mileage (50% highway speeds, 50% side road speeds) has been 48-52 MPG during summer tankfulls, and 39-43 MPG for winter tankfulls (driving in 9-16 F degree weather). This car is QUIET when operating on battery only - wow! Cool! I had more wind noise than I expected initially, but after the dealership made a repair based on a Technical Service Bulletin (adding some sealant around the driver's window gasket), wind noise is now noticeable on the highway only on decidedly windy days. This car offers a very quiet ride for most driving, but when going up a steep section of hill the engine noise will be noticeable. It disappears completely after cresting most hills, when either the RPM go down a lot or the engine is shut off completely while the car runs on battery for a while. Good ride, nice handling, good acceleration in Sport mode, excellent gas mileage, comfortable, and controls similar to other Honda models. Some quality control issues: - our car had an intermittent annoying rattle (like a bolt vibrating on a hard plastic tray) somewhere around the steering wheel that only happened on rough pavement at highway speeds. It turned out to be the airbag screws in the steering wheel - but it required many months to find. - the driver's seat can squeak annoyingly, apparently due to a loose clip that holds the seat covering on. The dealership fixed this once, and the squeak went away, but came back a month later and had to be fixed again. The Lane Keeping Assist System is cool, but it tends to "snake" a bit within a lane and does not necessarily drive the same path I would, so I don't use it. The collision-avoidance warning system is annoying, with many false alarms (someone in the oncoming lane in a turn to my right) - in addition to a few very valid ones (someone turning right from my lane who slows down a lot and will be close to my right front bumper when I pass them). You just have to get used to the false alarms. The Adaptive Cruise Control is great - slowing down when the car in front of you slows down on the highway. This is a VAST improvement over the traditional cruise control that I have been used to for the past 30 years. Trunk space is a bit smaller than other Accords to make room for the battery, but has been fine for our needs so far. We have been able to fit a walker and a travel wheelchair in the back at the same time (barely). The car comes with a battery-powered tire inflator instead of a spare tire (to save weight and cost?), which seems to concern some reviewers - but does not bother us. The car IS fun to drive, and we love the gas mileage and correspondingly lower global warming emissions. Our passengers remark on how quiet the car and ride are.

Worth the Wait for those sold on Hybrids

** Update after yer 2 - Still love this car and it is still the best car I have owned. Experienced a few minor issues but overall still very good. Too bad this is the only year that featured 2 LCD screens as I love this feature but 2018 modified the console and included only 1 screen and changed the air vent layout. **Update after 1 year - still enjoying the vehicle and after a year of combined highway and city driving, looks like 43 MPG is about average. In the city at 20-50 MPH stop and go, you can easily get 49 or 50 MPG but on the highway over 70 brings you back to reality. With all factors combines, this is still the best car I have ever owned. I was new to hybrids in 2013 and purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata and loved that vehicle right off the bat and was sold on hybrids. With that car I averaged 38 mpg on the highway and was thrilled that I could go over 500 miles before having to fill up. The argument at the time was the hybrid cost more and based on mpg, it would take you X years to break even. While this might be a logical value/$ spent thought, I for one loved the fact that I was doing my part to help with the ecology and consuming less gas which made me feel good and I was sold. While I loved this first hybrid, I was keeping an eye out for Honda's latest model waiting the entire 2016 model year for the 2017's which have just begun arriving at dealerships as I am a long time Honda fan ( have owned 4 or 5 Honda vehicles). From a "regular guy" point of view, there is almost nothing about this car I do like like from the fantastic mpg to the great audio system to elegant interior. So far I am averaging 46 mpg combined and an thrilled to see my driving range to empty is about 700 miles. The mpg highway is an interesting number as it never states at what speed was the mpg highway determined. On a recent trip, I set the cruise to 70 mph on mostly straight roads and after 2 hours of driving, the mpg was listed as 42 mpg. I suspect if I drove 65 mph or 60 mph, the mpg might have gotten closer to the published rate but who would drive that speed :-). The only issue I noticed is with Apple Car Play which acts strange at times with accepting phone calls and instances in which there seems to be a software tug of war between Honda car software and Apple as to which product should control a feature. When I do have an issue, rebooting the phone does nothing and it requires me to turn off the car then retry which corrects the problem. The car is very very well built and feels more like a Lexus than a hybrid sedan. As I have only had the car for 4 days, barring something totally out of the blue and unexpected, I would highly recommend purchasing this vehicle and forget the extra cost/how many years to recoup argument and enjoy the ride! (Update 7/26/16) - Resolved the carplay issue as being caused by using both Carplay and Bluetooth at the same time - use one or the other but not both together. On another note, I achieved 50.8 mpg in the city by driving with caution and playing with the gas pedal as Hybrid owners will understand what I am referring to. I am not up to 44 mpg combined over 6 days.

Experienced hybrid owner

This is my second hybrid vehicle. I still own a 2012 Camry XLE Hybrid which I love. I have owned this Honda Accord Hybrid touring for about a month now and have thus far had a very positive experience with it. I purchased the vehicle with 5800 miles on it from a reputable dealer and have put about 2000 miles on the vehicle on all kinds of roads (rural and highway). It performs well on dry as well as wet and icy roads. The ride is very smooth and comfortable although not as quiet as the Camry, but still very acceptable. Both my wife and I are in our 70's and even though the Accord is a "sportier" riding vehicle in both performance and appearance compared to the Camry... we still enjoy this vehicle very much. It is tighter on turns then our Camry and responds quicker when turning especially at high speeds. The Camry does give a smoother, quieter and "heavier" ride. I did read about a few criticisms of this vehicle before buying.... The enhanced cruise control which was described as not responding back to original settings "quick enough" I find not a problem at all. The vehicle slows down automatically as it starts to get too close to the vehicle in front of you... then slowly regains speed to the set speed. This definitely conserves fuel and you can always just accelerate yourself and then reset the cruise control if you like. Another complaint involved "not having a volume or tuning knob" for the radio system. The touch screen controls or steering wheel controls work as well for me. Lastly, the enhanced safety features (lane warning, collision warning, etc) are no problem. If you find them annoying or too sensitive... just turn them off. Gas mileage is very good. If you drive the vehicle to accommodate its hybrid capability it will average an overall 42+ mpg. I have even driven at 52mpg at times. I haven't owned the car long enough to rate reliability or maintenance/repair issues. Overall I'm thinking I will like this vehicle as much as my 6 year old Camry... I hope it does as well.
