this is funny

This is funny. I see all these bad reviews for a GREAT vehicle. Don't let these affect your purchase. I've put 130,000 miles on mine and only thing that went wrong was a rear wiper motor. The transmissions are fine as long as you service them correctly and aren't pulling your boat behind it. I bet if i asked all these people with tranny probs if they were towing with it, they'd say yes. It's a MINIVAN. Not a workhorse.

I have driven my 1998 Windstar 142,000 miles. The only maintenance has been normal items such as oil changes, new brakes, etc. Not a single problem with engine, transmission, or other mechanical items. It has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

Problem brakes and transmission

I've replaced the brake system four times on this van so far. The ABS system fails and the brakes wear very rapidly, requring a total replacement of parts including roters, drums, pads and anything else in the brake system. Very expensive! My co-worker who owned a 1997 version had the same trouble. I've also had to replace the transmission on this van once already.

Overal, it was great first 40K miles. No problems. We enjoyed the vehicle. We started having many small problems- alternator, suspension parts, front struts (twice),idler arm pulley, door lock, etc. One major probelm on head gasket for engine- was a major job $1000. nagging problem with stalling-finally solved by reprgraming of PCM module.
