Used 2002 Ford Taurus Consumer Reviews
Lots of problems
I'm 19 now and as a first car, it was alright. My "trans axle" light came on regularly with no known cause. Hoses came loose causing A/C not to be cold. Last fall I ended up hydroplaning on a main highway. I was (idiotically) not wearing my seat belt when I hit water, lost control, and hit the guardrail on both ends of my car. I spun 360 then 180 and landed in front of the exit sign going 295S to 64E. Luckily, I was not hurt. I tried to turn the car back on, but the wreck completely destroyed the front. One thing that stuck out was that the airbags never deployed when I hit the guardrail and began spinning. If you consider yourself a safe driver then this car may be a good fit.
One hot car for the price
We traded in a 2000 lx for the 2002 ses deluxe what a difference, Oh and the 24 valve engine puts the ffv motor to shame. That motor was so slow. This one even with the a/c on you don't even notice any power drain.I would give it two thumbs up!!
SEL Premium
I have enjoyed owning this car very much. I have just over 28,000 trouble free miles on the car. One small complaint is the rubber at the bottom of the windows stays wet forever. Other than that, I have really enjoyed all the gadgets that came with the car. I do miss heated seats, so I purchased sheepskins for the two front seats. I have found the seats with the sheepskins to be very comfortable on long trips. I also had simulated wood installed on the shifter console and the radio/heater control. Gives the car a richer look, which I felt was missing.
Overall Great Car
This car replaced a 2000 SE with 3.04V. I opted for the same engine but also wanted options. Got everything but engine block heater and wood trim (South Louisiana, who needs it). Tighter and seemingly more solid than my old Taurus, however, performance is down. I could smoke a Crown Vic in my old car, but this one is not as quick off the line or accelerating to pass. This is due to CAFE standards, so I guess I'm out of luck. Otherwise, a great car. Also, rear discs standard on Wagon, not available on sedan.
My Silver Bullet
After owning the Ford Aerostar mini van for 8 years I find the Taurus SES one fine car. Very stable and solid on the road.Good styling and good gas mileage.
