So this is the 3rd Ranger I’ve owned, the first was a 1984, the second a 2008 and this one is the biggest. I also owned a 1998 F150 so I’m pretty much a Ford truck guy. I bought this truck used with 33K on the clock, it’s an XL with the STX and FX4 packages and the Co-Pilot 360 safety system. If I had ordered this truck, this is probably how I would have ordered it too. I bought this truck in Sept of 2023 and so far it’s been very reliable for me, but I’ve only put 4K on in the 6 months I’ve owned it so time will tell. I frequent the Ranger5G forum and am aware of all the issues that people have been reporting / complaining about and I haven’t seen any on my truck. I plan to keep this truck for a long time so I’ve done the maintenance work myself, fluids etc to try and keep it running reliably. The acceleration is great, the little turbo 4 hauls; and transmission shifts fine, and gas mileage is good for it’s size, I get over 24 on trips and around 20 in town, not bad for a 4500# truck. The seats are comfortable for me 5’7” and also for my wife, (under 5’). She drove it a few times and has no problem with it’s size although she likes smaller cars. It’s a high step up into the cab but the factory running boards are a big help. The ride is very soft, you can feel the solidness of the full frame on rough roads, and the highway ride is very good too and very quiet. My truck has the smaller 4” radio display, and while the larger 7” would be nice the smaller one is more than adequate. I stream music from my phone via bluetooth which works well. I have the vinyl floor instead of carpet, but the truck came with Husky floor mats that cover everything up anyways. My truck also came with the spray in bedliner, a bed mat and the factory BakFlip tonneau cover which I like a lot. The tailgate locks automatically with the doors which is a plus. Lots of aftermarket accessories for these trucks too, so guys tend to go a bit crazy modding them. The rear seat is just OK, I wouldn’t want to be back there on a long trip. Storage wise there isn’t much space to put stuff, the seats do fold, but it doesn’t help much. Servicing the engine is decent, spark plugs are accessible, oil filter by the front wheel, but there is a skid plate that has to come off it you want to change the oil. Ford includes a cellular modem on every one of these trucks which allows you to lock / unlock and remote start the vehicle from a smart phone, a very cool feature. All in all I’m pleased with her. Update 10/31/24 Still running fine, 42,000 on the clock. To keep her good, I changed our all the fluids, differentials, transfer case and transmission with a new filter. I let the dealer do the oil change and filter so that if I ever to use my powertrain warranty, there will be a history they can look back on. On a long trip of about 400 miles she got almost 26 mpg which is great for this size of a truck. And yess I’m still pleased with my purchase.

Drives like a car, two year update

19, March 2022. I have 21,000km and have had no mechanical issues so far. Due to I am a little paranoid with the Turbo Eco-boost engine I change oil about every 4000 to 4500 miles or so. My only complaints are what I listed below, bed height and the information system. Also, I would not recommend this as a commuter car for NY city or Washington DC if you need to park in a small parking garage. It is sometimes hard to park in larger cities in Germany or France. The seats are comfortable and I get about 25 to 27 mpg on long trips I have taken in Europe usually using E10 fuel. So for two people it is comfortable on long road trips. One other complaint is the air valve on the spare tire points up so you cant check the pressure unless you lower the tire. I have the STX Ranger and the sound system is OK, not the best, but the speakers are of low quality. End of March 2022 assessment. So far so good. I will continue to do oil changes at 6500km or so and will not be towing anything with it. My wife feels it is comfortable and she is used to driving in her Volvo XC-60. She does complain that the bed height is too high. It does drive very well on the Autobahn and the Europeans seem interested in the supercab, they have Rangers in Europe but not the supercab. My gripes are the same as before, the info system is far from the best, it has a small screen for the radio/backup camera monitor and the bed seems to be higher than it needs to be. But it does drive nice and gets decent gas mileage. I am not a fan of turbos due to I assume it will require more maintenance in the future. So far after about one year we are happy with the truck. It has been of good vehicle for taking Kayaks and bicycles, and that was the main reason I purchased it. I only have 2000 miles but it drives nice. The radio screen is small and not a touch screen, using the info system could be easier. I have a US Spec Ranger in Germany and it is quit fast for a truck, no issues on the Autobahn. In the past I have had two F-250s, one Dodge D-200 and a Ram 50, but this truck by far drives the best. I am not sure how much the four cylinder could tow but I only take bikes and kayaks so that is not an issue for me. I refused to look at a GM Canyon or Chevy Colorado after my 2015 Equinox had engine issues at 42k and from my point of view the GM warranty and customer service is a sham. I have no clue why Ford made the bed height so high on the Ranger, I think it is higher than my 2006 F-250. So far I really like the Ranger, but I thought my Equinox was as good as my Honda CRV until 42,000 miles. Overall it drives like a car and I can put three bikes and a kayak in the 6ft bed, so it meets my needs and my wife thinks it is way more comfortable than all our other trucks we have had. With the turbo four cylinder I am worried about will it last and be dependable. But for now I really like it. Maybe in three for four years I will regret I bought it, but time will tell.

Experienced rough, excessive fast idle and/or a rough shifting transmission condition when the engine is cold.  2019 Ranger with 750 miles.

Comfort equals size with the Ranger

The comfort level depends on your physical size, larger individuals will have a more difficult time with the front seats and leg room since the Ranger has 2" less legroom than comparable vehicles like GM,s twins. I did not find the front seats comfortable or the front leg room acceptable for me. People under 6' might have a totally different take, however. I liked the Ranger generally but if one is not very comfortable sitting in the seats, it's difficult to feel "good" about the vehicle.
