2019 Ford Ranger Lariat 4dr SuperCab SB (2.3L 4cyl Turbo 10A)

I purchased my 2019 Ranger (Lariat) in June 2019. In the past year, I have put on 20,000 miles and just took it in for the second oil change. Earlier this year, I had experienced an unexpected issue. All of the sudden, the motor started chugging, like it was starving for fuel, all kinds of warning lights were flashing on my dash, and none of them had anything to do with the motor. It was the AdvanceTrax, Pre-collision assist, brakes and I don’t even remember what else. I pulled over and shut it off to let the computer reset. After starting it several times, it seemed to fix itself, but I contacted the dealership and they investigated. The found the problem to be the throttle body and replaced. This oil change, I requested that they clean out the throttle body to prevent it from getting gummed up and needing replacement again. When I picked up the truck, I had the same issue as earlier this year with in 10 miles of the dealership. They’ve not had my truck for a week, and have not found the root cause. I’m starting to think I got a lemon.

I test drive every mid size truck on the market and folks.. this is the clear winner. So much so that I’ve forgone any common sense vehicle buying advice of waiting for rebates or incentives. I dare you to go test drive a Tacoma TRD and then check out the Ranger. You’ll do as I did and hand over your money.

I had driven a Tacoma (2010 & 2017)for 8 years and was reluctant to switch to the Ranger. It has been four months and haven’t looked back. I find more comfortable inside, smoother ride. The Eco Boost leaves the Tacoma at the starting gate. The transmission shifts smoothly. Toyota change the tranny in 2016. I would have taken my 2010 back a week after I got it. My only criticism is storage is lacking in the Ranger. The Ranger is worth a look.

I just bought my 2019 Ford Ranger XLT Sport SuperCab 4x2 about a week and a half ago and so far, it seems just right. I have the 301a, Sport, and Towing packages with dealer installed drop-in bedliner and all season floor mats. The interior is comfortable and roomy (except for the back seats if you have the SuperCab like myself), I've already driven it for an entire day with no issue. The acceleration and torque is unreal. Ford nailed it with this engine and transmission combo. I get right around 20mpg, but I tend to have a lead foot. I haven't had the opportunity to tow anything just yet, but judging by the normal performance, I'm sure it'll be no issue. Apple car play works great, blind spot warning system is good, the lane keep assist isn't as annoying as some other cars I've driven. Overall, great truck.

Updated 2022-07-12; The Ranger transmission is actually worse. I didn't think that was possible. The dealership says that everything is normal operation. I have had loaner vehicles with the exact same issue. How did Ford mass produce such a horrible product. I wish I had done better research prior to buying. The Ranger was a great truck for the first 750 miles. A little loud from 0 to 5 miles per hour, but then a very quiet vehicle with almost no cabin noise. At around 750 miles, the engine started ticking, sometime very subtle, other times loud enough to hear over the radio. I researched on-line and many people experienced the exact same issue - the DI (direct injection pump.) Some people had luck getting it replaced, I have not. The sound with 2,000 miles on the engine is now audible at all times. The radio covers it up about 95% of the time, but that isn't an option if you want to have a conversation. I would not buy this truck again for this reason. I have now had the dealership look at it twice and they tell me that it is normal and I have to live with it. I will try a different dealer, but frankly, its less than 2 months old, and I'm done with Ford. Probably never buy a Found on Road Dead again! Everything else on the truck is great. I will probably return to the dealer if they refuse to fix it.
