My rating of this car is based on what I think it was designed to do, not compared to a BMW Z3 or something. For the price and intended purpose of this car, I think it's great! Don't listen to those who tell you buy a Focus instead of a ZX2. The ZX2 is more fun to drive and looks a hell of a lot better than a Focus. If you're strapped for cash, but still want sporty little car to tootle around in, the ZX2 is a great option for the price.

Tie rods go out too often or am I driving it too hard? Acceleration is great, AC takes way too much and Ford knows best and won't let you turn the compressor off while leaving the fan on. Seats could be more comfortable; are good for about an hour. Stiff shifter needs lubing too often. Best thing car goes fast and gets 34 MPG. Brakes too light for car.

I am 66 Years old, and bought it new in the Fall of 1999...Only has 28,000 miles to date.....Still smells new...Only problem ,I let my Battery acid leak down on some of the cables I corrected that, but have to use the Emergecy release to get it out of part, when I drive, and from reading some others,,,I think I should have my tie Rods checked.

I BOUGHT MY ESCORT IN 2001(A YEAR OLD WHEN I BOUGHT IT). IT'S BEEN A WONDERFUL CAR FOR ME. NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CAR. IT'S MAINTAINENCE FREE.

Have only put 29,000 on it in the 4 years I've owned. Total mileage at this point is 50,000. In the past 4 years the only repairs were to BOTH tie rod ends. Also have a tensioning belt that isn't centered. Then my engine starting chirping/squeaking when idling. Turns out I need my timing belt and all components replaced. They also found my head gasket was leaking. $1,400 estimate to repair. Seems a bit ridiculous on a car with so few miles that was babied.
