Repair after Repair
Don't waste your money on this car. My car recently had the check engine light come on so we took it into the dealership. It took 2 days to diagnose the problem and they said it needed a new turbo which would cost $2,500!! I'm not even confident that this would fix the problem. My car only has 42,000 miles on it and has only been out of warranty for 3 months. This is apparently a very common problem, the car starts having different engine problems right when the warranty expires. There should be a recall on this vehicle!!

Top tier features, maneuverable, slow ride
UPDATE: I’ve had my car for half a year now. I still love everything about it. Gas is cheap, fits comfortably in tight spaces, and I still think the ET screen is better/bigger than most new SUVs. Still a slow ride, extremely noticeable with the AC on as every car. Sad they’re discontinuing but happy to say I owned one!! Pros: This vehicle has almost every interior feature you need: heated seats, backup camera, big entertainment system, etc. I found the size to be very convenient when passing by semis as I know i have more wiggle room to move to the side or squeeze into tight places. The hatch opening sideways is also convenient as I don't have to reach up and pull a heavy hatch down! It also is an eye catcher and people comment on it all the time. The ride is smooth over bumps and even smoother in sports mode. Surprisingly enough, my dad who is a large person said he fit comfortably in the passenger and rear seats. Cons: One thing I really wanted was remote start and this doesn't have it. However, I did get it installed for a few hundred bucks. The pillars surrounding the windshield are very thick, this creates a big blindspot when going around/entering roundabouts. The acceleration is worse than my 2009 Ford fusion - very “jumpy” when trying to accelerate quickly. And sports mode doesn't help the acceleration as much as the ride. Overall: None of the cons are deal breakers, I can live with most of them. You can't get the same for the price, nothing else compared to this when looking in the mid 10s price range! I'm going to be keeping this for a while.

Replaced my '14 Focus with an EcoSport
I wanted to get an SUV to replace my Focus. Where I live a majority of the cars are NOT cars. They are trucks or big SUVs. I could barely see around the other cars backing out. I did not want a big SUV since 90% of the time it's just me. Researched the EcoSport and decide to test drive it. I was concerned the small engine would make the car dog slow. I was surprised by how well it got up and went. It's no Mustang GT. It is on par or better than my Focus 2.0 liter. It rides really nice on the highway and city. Engine is not too loud at all. I thought as highway speeds it would whine loudly. It is pretty quiet. So far I am loving it.

Such mixed reviews
I bought my SES in June, 2019... It was made in December, 2017. That's what mixed reviews and skewed expectations will do. A new car on the lot for 18 months. I was ready for the milage issues and the fact it's not a mustang. What I wasn't prepared for was the sun visor... I'm tall and the way I sit, the thing blocks my view at almost every point of it's arc and it doesn't rotate far enough to hold up the full sized sun shade. THAT is my biggest complaint. I love the simple dash layout. The fold flat seat. The rolling trunk privacy cover which you don't get in later models. It handles just fine for me especially in small spaces. It takes a little planning to park so you can use the horizontal tailgate but using it is a pleasure because I don't have to worry about smacking my head on an odd shaped vertical gate. I describe it as an Escape minus the back side window.. but actually, it's more fun to drive. Finally just make sure you get the Titanium or SES AWD to make the most of the platform. In the beginning, I felt I was the only one in town with this car except the rentals. Eighteen months in, I'm seeing more on the road and even a few as company cars. Sadly, while I was sleeping one night in October of 2021, the pond at a local park flooded during a heavy rain. The overflow headed down one of the streets that border my block. The flow took a left turn and the debris that came with it clogged a drain 20 steps from where I was parked. This put my EcoSport in 17 inches of water. Thankfully in today's market, the insurance co. totaled the car for close to what I paid and I replaced the EcoSport with a 2021 Escape SEL.
