Better Than Expected Gas Mileage

I purchased the first 2013 C-Max at my Dealership in October 2012. As of July 2015 I am coming up on my 36,000 miles. I was able to quickly maximize my gas mileage thanks to the great dashboard visuals and controls. I found the car will drive more economically than I will if I always drive on cruise control, even on short trips around town. I usually drive about five miles below the speed limit (which drives my wife crazy) and keep highways speeds under seventy. The payback is 44.3 MPG since purchase (and still improving!), but I can finish up many trips between 44 -47 MPG! On a couple of occasions when I needed power, no disappointment; this baby can dance! That is why I have seen more aggressive drivers average only 38 MPG. I adjust the driver electric seat to its highest level which gives me impressive visibility. Ford did a great job by putting in so many air vent controls that I am always comfortable. The automatic foot operated tailgate is a nice luxury that does come in handy. The rear view camera is the best I have seen. The voice controls usually work great and hands-free driving is a snap. About the only negative is that the seats could be more comfortable. It is not a problem for me, but my wife complains on long trips.

Could not be more pleased with our C-MAX

10,000 miles, 9 months. Getting 44 MPG all around. Very quiet, extremely comfortable, good performance. Have had zero issues. This is the first new car I have owned that hasn't had some defect in the first year. Better than 2 new Toyota's I have owned. Gauges / dash info system is excellent. Sound system is excellent. Fit/finish excellent. Glad to buy a car like this made in Michigan by UAW. 5/2018; 52,000 miles. We still absolutely love this car. No issues whatsoever. Had a couple of recall items which were handled by our dealer quickly and efficiently. We’d definitely buy another. In fact, our satisfaction with this car led us to purchases a 2018 Fusion Hybrid which we now have in addition to the C-Max. Update 11/16. 34,000 miles, 32 months. We love this car. It has been every bit as reliable as two previous Toyotas we have owned. We considered the Prius before purchasing the C-Max, but found the Ford offered much more car for the money including more features and technology (ours has the park assist option). We would definitely buy this car again. Update 12/18. 58,000 miles. We still love our C-Max, so much so that we would buy another if we could. We are sad that they have been discontinued. We did however, buy a Fusion hybrid for our daughter and we like it too.

Buy this over a Prius

This car is amazing! I tried the Prius and never looked back. The fit and finish is like like a German car, and the leather seats are comfortable. What's outstanding is the cab forward visibility. You can see so much of the road and countryside while you are touring. Ride is very good for 17" tires, and handling is very tight. OK, the navigation and controls take time to learn, but work great once you understand, so don't trust Consumer Reports. THIS IS A BLAST TO DRIVE. We average 38 mpg city and country. It's hard to test in LA, because if you start up slowly, people get on your tail. I had to cut across some traffic once, and floored it at the stop light, the torque was like hyperspace.

After 1-1/2 years of ownership, overall i love this Hybrid..... design, features, noise levels, performance and driveability are excellent. HOWEVER have had some rattles and squeaks develop, and an annoying tapping sound in the rear compartment i cannot find for the life of me! There are several fit and finish issues, the windshield mirror cover is flimsy and doesnt stay in place, poor tolerances on the clips. The inside of the two front door panels are warped where the top edges touch the glass, and there's at least 1/4 " movement /flexing by the jambs on both front doors. These were like this from new, but the service dept. at Bell Ford wouldn't fix them. A module had to be replaced in the rear passenger door. The A/C froze up going over the hills from temp. changes but i believe there's a TSB on that now. Only happened once. The MPG debate showed realistic mileage, and after 11000 miles, now average is 46. 2 and stable. Varies between 30's -50's (61 highest) on different trips. That's more than 2-1/2 times my 2007 Santa Fe 18.2 mpg lifetime average, so I'm happy. I'd rather have the better performance and extra features than quibble over a few mpg. in comparison to the Prius. There's an old saying "The ship was ruined for the lack of a ha'porth of tar" meaning the fit and finish issues on the plastic components needs to be improved. Having had my rant, still love the car. Update: 2019 at 25000 miles A/C ceased working, caught fire and whole system had to be replaced. Factory Warranty had expired, luckily had extended warranty, cost me $100 deductible instead of the $4500 it would have cost. Very disappointed. As i said to service guy "so much for Ford Tough" In order to replace A/C system they had to take whole dashboard off to even get to it... now worried what that did to the car. They gave it back to me still smelling of electrical smoke in the interior. Shame.

I traded in a beautiful German near-luxury sedan for this car. Other than prestige, it's little sacrifice. The C-Max drives like a European car because it is one (it's been sold in Europe for years, though not as a hybrid). I get 36-37 MPG, better than the 20 of my old car and comparable to the 40 of the Prius V. The compromises the Prius makes to get those last couple MPG (in road noise, acceleration, structural rigidity) aren't worth it to me. (We drive Priuses as company cars.)
