Dodge this...
All though I don't have a ton of miles on the truck, it's more fun than a pile of puppies to drive. Gas mileage isn't spectacular but it'll get the job done. Nice pulling capabilities, good ride, and lots of fun gadgets on this model. No real problems to speak of. I had the dealer go through it before the warranty ran out and take care of a couple of minor problems. Additions like cold air intake and catback are nice and help the HP/mileage a little.
excllent truck

Fit to Customize
When I purchased my Ram 1500ST in Aug of 2001 it looked like any other truck made for fleet sale, plain. But I have to say, that if you are looking for a truck that is rarely customized the pre- 2002 Dodge Rams are the way to go! After a lift kit, wheels, sound system, and various other parts. I now have a one-of-a-kind truck, a real head turner! Just make sure you have the budget for a gas guzzler (about $49/wk)
Mixed feelings
Good truck overall. Dodge needs to put a better transmission in this full sized truck. Just replaced for the second time at 121,000 miles. Terrible gas mileage of 13.5 city, 15.5 highway.
good sofar
I have 34000 miles on my 4by4 slt with the 5.9 in it.Most impressed by its offroad prowess.I remember the first winter i had it.It snowed 17 inches in 1 day,and on a small residential road leading to a recreation area, only half was plowed. The other half had a good 2 ft of snow.Anyways,i drove right thru the 2 ft of snow like a hot knife thru butter. No problems to date. One minor irritation. It has a slight pull to the right.Could be a design flaw,as numerous accounts of this occurance, and no remedy that i know of.
Looks good but I think I have a lemon
The truck ran good until I hit the 28,000 mile mark where I started to run into engine problems. Looking on www.alldata.com, a internet resource that shows common errors with all makes and models, I found the symptoms I was experiencing. The dealership updated my computer and repaired a couple things. Since then I have been bringing it back just about every month. The lastest trouble was when I was running at 60 and the truck just cut out. The truck only has 34,000 milies on it what kind of build quality is that?
mike's ram
best truck i have ever owned.
Tough Truck
I love this truck. This one of the best truck I have ever seen, I put around 55000 on the truck since I bought it and I drive it really hard and not one problem. Replaced the water pump when it leaked. I can haul 2000 pounds of stuff in the back and the truck pulls great. I have the Off- Road Pac, and the truck will out drive any but the most lifted of chevys and ford which usually get broke down anyways. My only problem is the gas mileage with the 5.9 and 4.10 gears is awful. I am luck to get 14 on the highway but then I don't have to pay to keep the truck running other than that.
So, is this the new bluesmoblile or what
Sharp looking truck with the sport option. The grill that is the same color as the truck. Love the room in the front seats. I'm satisified with truck and service at dealer.
Slow but steady
This is a decent truck. It's great for a kid's first vehicle because it doesn't have much get-up-and-go power. It's a fairly slow vehicle that is good if you are just hauling lumber or a 4-wheeler around. It won't work if you want to pull a load of any real size or jump out into traffic without endangering yourself. Given the choice, I wouldn't buy another Dodge with a V-6. Chevy's V-6 is a fairly strong engine, but Dodge failed miserably in that dept.
A nice Dodge Ram
This truck is better than my last two trucks which were both Fords . It has more wheel hop durring tight turns while in 4 wheel drive than my other 4 x4's , 2 Fords and a GMC .The others had shorter wheel bases which may be the reason .
Dodge Ram 1500
Excellent truck, great styling. Strong engine. Bought to tow a trailer and looking forward to it
how can u bash dodge?
ok, i used to hate dodge not ever owning one just because all of my friends bashed them.(even though theyve never owned one) but this has been used almost 12 years constantly with 22,000 miles on it and have not had 1 problem. not 1 repair. yet my friends ford F-250 being such an awesome truck as he would say has CONSTANTLY been broken just recently having $1,200 in repair. Only 1 year, 1 month into the purchase. This is an awesome truck and for the people that complain about gas mileage...BUY A HONDA!! of course a V-8 truck will be low on gas mileage!
Fix the tranny
Love the truck. It has some nagging flaws. Had Aamco do 30k mi. trans service (4-spd auto), and brass filings were in the pan. The manager said it was the second worst tranny on the road. Had to replace both towing mirrors by 28k miles. Have 46k now and new ones good so far. Love the roominess, but at 6'5" I need more headroom. Don't like the flexing noise in the quad cab doors on bumpy roads. Has lots of power, but not as much as a 360 should have. Chevy 350 seems stronger. Tows 100 hay bales on BP trailer with brake controller fine. BC should be standard with tow package. I like the solid front axle instead of independent suspension.
Solid Truck
I bought this truck with only 35K on it for work usage and put over 35K on it in about 16 months with no problem at all. Have a company truck now, so the Dodge doesn't get much usage now, but it's been on a few out of town trips and has been a very good truck.
Great Truck
This truck was bought to replace a 1987 Dodge Dakota with 260000+ miles. It has been a great vehicle and is a pleasure to drive. I have had no problems with it at all. This is one of 7 Rams from 1996 to 2003 models in my family and all the rest have been very reliable with no problems.
Solid Truck, Poor Gas Mileage
Doesn't seem as solid as a Chevy or GMC, but a nice truck nonetheless. Minor steering column glitch with the airbag and the overhead sunglass holder are the only problems in 2+ years.
Truck of Atlas
Basically I have had no problems with this truck, I wish the gas milage were better. I had a 1996 Ram 2 door short bed and had a lot of problems with the steering column, but none with this truck. I find this to be comfortable and good looking
JJ
5.9L is a gas hog... Nice driver though. Could use a little more pep.
great truck but it may burn
this had been a great truck that said even after the recall repairs in 2002 some will still burn and you will likely be driving it when it starts

Review of Truck
I have had this truck for just over a year. I have never had such a cheaply built vehicle. More interior noise than any car I have ever had. Fuel economy is now where near what the sticker says.
