I have owned 2 SRT-4s. I love the power. A sleeper car that can run with cars that cost twice as much. Has issues on takeoffs but no problem on highways. Great for the family man that wants to have fun and have a family. Fell in love with the car first time I drove it.

Good car overall. I have a dash rattle that drives me insane though. Gas milege isn't as good as hoped but the manual trans is fun to drive. Handles curves very well. Despite some minor issues the car begs to be driven. My initial impression was I would probably not purchase another neon, but after having it for a couple months it's the only car I drive. Way more enjoyable to shoot around curves in than my Honda Accord. Also with the right driver you can smoke imports no problem.

we have 3 neons 99,03,04. all perform flawlessly. have had no mechanical problems with them, start good, run good, mileage is excellent always 35 mpg or better. handle very well, ride is comfortable, performance is good. travel a lot of highway, 300+ miles per trip every other week end. have also packed a lot of stuff when haul too. is limited to size on some hauling. a lil more trunk space would be nice, like make the back about a foot longer?

The srt-4 in my opinion is the best bang for the buck car in many ways. Performance is that of something priced in the high 20's low 30's such as the evo and the sti. Also the exterior has a very appealing look that a lot of lower priced cars lack. The last thing the interior on this car suddle but sport.

I purchased my car a few weeks ago and just love everything about it. The handling is great, the dash is easy to read, the stereo is awsome, and plenty of interior room for my family. I usually drive a van or a full size pickup buy really enjoy the size of this car. It is easy to manuver in parking lots. The only thing negative I have to say is the the front end is hard to see from the drivers seat. Judging the front will come in time, but for now I have to watch out for it.

Bought it new back in 2005 and now in 2009 it has 115,000 miles and have had no problems so far (knock on wood). Take yearly trips cross country with the kids and get good gas mileage. The only complaint is all the dents from wildlife running into it, polls jumping in front of it and carts that are attracted to it. I am waiting for everything to start falling apart on it Dimples, but so far, I have love this car and am attached to it.

Refined from the begining, modded 2003 w/o limited slip, the LSD that comes standard is well worth the money, given the competition there is none, in it's bracket only comparison is cars 10-15K more. i would suggest if you're looking for a cheap pocket rocket the SRT-4 should be at the top of your list.

As you can see I love my neon. I have high aspirations of fixing it up with new side skirts and front and rear bumber. I already have a 7 color lcd underbody kit and I had a spoiler sunroof installed also. The one reason why I got the neon is that it is one of the most customizable cars on any lot. You can make your neon be whatever, look like whatever, and do whatever you want it to. Oh yea and did I tell you how much I love my neon! :)

Everyone thinks it just looks like a neon, but it's not. Fully equipped, the SRT-4 will run you around 22,000. Not a bad price for what you get. Its competitors the evo and sti are very well built cars for the price; the only difference between the evo and sti is price. The evo will run you a secure 29,000, and the sti will run around 33,000. Originally a concept car in 1998, they wanted to make the srt-4 supercharged and only running 12psi and making 170 hp. But Dodge has been making turbo cars since the early 70's with the turbo z and shelby. Experience helps in this case. But u still get the fuel economy of a sedan and the price of a typical 4 door. But the hp it provides all the fun.

Looked at a bunch of cars in this size range. All of them that had any fun factor wound up to be at least $20K, and none of them even came close to the ride of the SRT-4 (I swear it would accelerate going straight up). I've had a number of sports cars in the past; this blows them away in terms of acceleration and handling both. And everyone who knows anything about sports cars literally drools over it (I've had people chase me down on the interstate just to take a gander at it). The only drawback is that I now have to drive everywhere. Everyone and his brother (and my kids and all my kids friends and ...) wants to ride in it!

I finaly went out and drove the SRT-4 yesterday and was more than pleasantly supprised. Understeer was very minimal with considerable wheelspin on slower corners. But when I expected understeer the car clung to its line and glided exactly where I wanted it. High speed cornering was a little less impresive with the car seeming to wobble around and not want to keep a set but overall balance was excellent for a car in this class. Compared to the nissan spec-V the dodge has much less understeer on slower cornering and accelerated with a punch that the nissan didn't have. However on the high speed corners the SER seemed more set and planted at the limit. all in all I had a smile on my face.

I drive the Dodge SRT-4 ~400 miles a week. First let me say this car is seriously fast. The suspension is tight which makes handling incredible but it has a downside, when you hit a bump or hole your teeth are almost jarred out of your mouth. The shifting from the five speed manaul trans is smooth for the price. Braking is strong its amazing how short a distance you can stop in. The fin in the back I don't like I call it the park bench and I'm seriously thinking about removing it. Changing the oil is a mission because you can't get a oil filter wrench on the filter, because its squeeze in between the engine block and the oil cooler.

When deciding to purchase a new car, I looked and test drove the 2005 Dodge Neon SXT Special Edition, the Ford Focus, and the Plymouth PT Cruiser. I felt I made the best decision for what I've spent on the car since its initial purchase. Gas mileage in town is around 26-29 MPG and town/highway is around 31. The car is sporty and is fun to drive. The SXT Special Edition package was a definite plus in the factor of my purchase. The kicker 6-disc changer with 6 speakers and subwoofer sounds amazing, although don't expect to blow your doors off. The chrome 15" rims are nice, just not all that flashy. I'd definitely recommend the Neon SXT if you don't want the price tag on a nicer car.

In what parallel universe does this car get supposed good fuel economy? I have put a lot of money keeping this car in the best shape, I don't drive it in a gas-wasting sort of way, and I usually only get around 20/22mpg on a tank-- and that is with freeway driving as well. It's like driving a small tank, especially in contrast to non-American compact equivalents. It does zip along quite quickly on flat roads, depending on the weather. Positive: I feel pretty safe driving it (in terms of how solid it is), and the trunk is quite roomy. Lastly: God forbid you turn the a/c on- the mpg goes to around 16mpg

Excellent power, serious fun to drive. You can't find anything better than this unless you spend $10k more and move up to the $30k range to get a Evo or STI. I simply can't think of a car under $30k that can beat the performance of SRT-4. If you are tight on cash and want serious performance, this is your choice. If you are loaded and don't want to park your M3 around the train station every morning, SRT-4 is the only car that you can enjoy driving (and the thrill) and won't feel too bad to find a scratch on it after you return from work.

I've had my car for over a year now. It's so much fun to drive, and the gas mileage is pretty good for a turbo. I can get up to 300+ miles to a tank when on the highway (without boosting). Handling takes some time to get used to, but it's not bad. Could be better, though. Performance is amazing, once you get past the wheel hop.

I've wanted this car since it was a concept, and I will say that the production car seems even better, if only because of the turbo. There are so many things to appreciate about this car: fantastic power curve, LSD, decent (but stiff-legged) suspension, the exhaust note, the excellent aftermarket support, even the mileage (27-29 mpg on average for me) has been very good for a car of this type. I have very few serious complaints about this car, except that I wish it were lighter and handled as well as my '96 Neon, but that car has Koni adjustable struts - unfair comparison. I could have ordered an '06 ACR, but I didn't feel it was worth a nearly $3K permium over my car; paid $19,7XX for mine.

It is a great car the only thing I have done is replace tires and change the oil. It has been perfect and at top speed it is glued to the road it is amazing. The acr came with adjustable struts so it handles great but a little harsh. Just like it should there has been many much higher priced cars that have been shamed when they cannot keep up. This car I will keep for a long time. People complain about the transmission just install mopar short shifter and no more problem, remember mobilone.

Because of the recent hike in gas, I sold my '99 S-10 and made the move to a smaller car. It's a huge difference to go from 20mpg highway to 32! I have a long commute, so I needed a fuel efficient, reliable and sporty little car. I really got it in this one, and it has a great sound system. Only con is that it's really very silly to have power front windows...but not in the rear. Why did they do that?

I've owned my dodge neon for just about four years now. I bought it brand new off the lot. It's a sxt model with an automatic transmission. The past two years, I've been commuting eighty plus miles a day to work and home again. With the exception of a new battery and four new tires, my neon drives and performs well. I do all the maintenance my self. My neon has a few squeaks and rattles which is normal for the amount of miles it has, but it continues to serve me well.

Just plain fun to drive! Nothing like performance AND mileage. I have gotten as good as 29 MPG and as low as 22 (driven with fun and gusto). I'd read a complaint about poor visibility with the rear spoiler, but find it fine unless I want to see over a 1/2 mile back. Now I want the SRT-10 pickup. The biggest single modification I made was to replace the engine mounts, that ELIMINATED any wheel hop.

After doing research, I found that the design and engineering that went into this car was amazing. I don't see how Chrysler could make and sell a car like this but then Viper and Prowler come to mind. Simply put, this is a performance bargain! The car isn't for everyone. You must appreciate high performance and a taste for the daring because the ride is a bit on the harsh side. It is designed to be high performance and everything about the car from the stance, engine sounds, to the look, feel and ride remind you of what it is. This is not a car for first time drivers or people with bad backs. It can be driven daily with ease but it is truly at home being raced at a track.

I got a 2005 SXT with the SRT-4 Design group and The Kicker Audio System all for $16,500. The best part is even with my lousy credit, I still was approved with Chrysler Financial for a 4.9% interest rate. Overall, the car is far superior to the first generation Neons in all areas. It feels more solid and well built than the 95- 99's. The manual transmission pulls the car much better than the automatic. With the dual exhaust, I've got some 0-60 times around 7.8 seconds. The fuel cut off doesnt kick in until about 7.2k on the tach, so thats an improvment. all it needs is the Indy intake manifold and a CAI and should be right around 6.9 - 7.2 for the 0-60

After reading the reviews on the SXT, I was a little concerned purchasing the SRT-4. I do not regret it now. This car is great to drive and has serious power for the price. The exhaust sounds great, not one of those cans you find on the Civics. I can say I love everything about the car but if I could change one thing I would ask Dodge to offer a different set of rims, something different from the SXT style. (Chrome would be nice)

This car corners well and has good giddy-up when I need to excel to get onto the freeway or pass another car. It turns on a dime so parking is a breeze. Great stereo sound is a plus. I love this car! If someone would have told me how sweet this car was I wouldn't have believed it. But once I drove it I was hooked. Sure it's a little rough around the edges, but it's dead on where it counts. Outperforms cars that are thousands more right out of the dealer lot. Performance upgrades are cheap and easy. Racing style Seats are great after getting used to them. I took a 4 hour trip a month after getting the car and I didn't even think about them. It's a nice commuter car. Small enough to zip around town, fast enough to get away from the SUV's that dominate the roads. Small performance car designers should use this as a template.

Best car I've had for gas mileage

I bought my Neon in June of 2005 with 5,000 miles on it. It is now Feb of 2009 and I have a little over 105,000 miles on it. There has never been anything wrong with the car except routine work like oil, spark plugs, wires, etc. I did however have a transmission cooler liner split when it had 104,000 miles but that is a normal wear and tear item as well. My passenger CV shaft is acting up as well now but it has 105,000 miles on it plus with me doing the burnouts I do with it doesn't help. Overall it is a great car all in all.

A wonderful car, I love the amount of trunk space, and I am a fairly tall person and there is more than enough leg room. The back seat holds 2 large car seats with plenty of extra room. The stereo system is awesome. It handles great at any speed.

This is the first new car that I have owned. With the current interest rates and promotions at the time, it simply made sense for the first time to buy new. Yes it is true that this is not a "Luxury" car. (Compared to our 1998 Buick LeSabre, many features are lacking). However the 5 speed stick is very responsive. The sound system is quite good, mileage very good. The only negative that I have seen is the clutch seems to "flutter" a bit in 2nd gear (sort of like a bungie cord). Overall I am very happy with the purchase. I have 13k miles with absolutely no maintenance issues whatsoever. (Also the 5mph rear bumpers really do work!) I was even complimented on my "Parking Style".
