Love the car! The car handles well when taking it on trips. In fact, we dubbed the name green lightning because it bolts right by the others.

This vehicle has very unreliable. Numerous repairs include computer, brakes, windows, windshield wipers, and transmission. The vehicle has a pronounced pull to the left, which despite endless efforts to eliminate, cannot be corrected. Getting into and exiting the car is very difficult for a six footer due to the low head clearance. In summary the car is long on style and short on substsance. It full of 10 cent parts.

My '99 Intrepid ran great, looks great and is great, unless you have to diagnose a malfunction with it. One problem consist of 4 or 5 smaller problems together and will cost you an arm and a leg to fix correctly.

1999 Intrepid ES

I have had this car for 4 years now and it has been very reliable. During that time, I have had three mechanical problems with various sensors during ownership. Other than that, the car handles great and is very comfortable and easy to drive. I now have over 90,000 miles on this car and the maintenance has consisted of two brake changes and one tire change. The trunk is spacious and comes in handy for hauling suitcases. My main pet peeve with the car is the lack of cup holders in the back seat for passengers. I track my gas mileage and the car continues to get 29 - 30 MPG on the highway. I would purchase another one.

I have had nothing but trouble with this car. As soon as the warranty expired, I was continually replacing sensors. Even worse, at 39000 miles we had to replace the transmission!

Purchased my 1999 Intrepid NEW at the dealer. I still own this car and I still love everything about it. I only had one problem which was taken care of... 1 electronic fuel injector went bad... that's it. Light in dash went on... took to the dealer, they fixed it. I plan on keeping this car for a long time.

Get an Accord instead, you'll be happier

I bought this in June 99, it was their demo, a few minor problems at the beginning then the noises coming from the rear, in the end dealer told me he would sue me if I wouldn't leave them alone. I learn't a very expensive lesson take my advice buy a Accord or Camery for a few thousand more you'll be happier in the long run. I will admit that Chrysler makes nice looking cars but they lack the engineering to real make this a quality car. Before this car I always bought domestic because I believed that the domestic cars were just as good as japanese and german cars, I know better know.

For the price this is a very reliable car. I have 40k on my '99 Intrepid ES. The only problems thus far is, 1) the paint job is chipping, the chrome on the dodge stickers are pealing a bit, I had a bit of a slip in the trany when I had the fluid replace but after about 2weeks that went away. So far its been a very reliable car for 3.5 years. Oh, I also had the headlight switch and one window motor replaced.

Bought car for $19000 had no problem for 6000 miles then recall twice.. at 15000 left rear window motor stopped working, at 21000 trunk lock wont open. 30500 car overheated and wont start. at 37000 just after the warranty was over speed sensor went bad $300.00 to fix. at 42000 the instrument panel light works sometimes. auto lock on left front door makes noise and get stuck 250.00 to fix. Ac stopped working at 45000 500.00 to fix. now at 52000 the oil light comes on after at idle. dealer wants 1000.00 to fix problems. Selling this car. First American car in the last 25 years I bought. But never again I sold my domestic cars stock also. stay with Honda, Toyota, Mazda.

This was my very first car and I was so in love with it, that I now own another one... Before my first one died though, I purchased it in 2004 with already over 120K on it. This car reliably and safely got me all the way from FL to WA state, while towing a U-haul trailer, and also on one blown cylinder... only one glitch to the trip was it wouldn't go over 40 over the Rockies, but hey, it was missing a cylinder and towing a u-haul. It had its share of minor problems, but the engine never failed to fire up. I got a good solid 3-4 years and about 60K out of mine before it finally died. Loved it so much I bought another 99 just yesterday! Looking forward to life with this one now too!

I am a 21 year old. This is by far the worst car I have ever owned. The first year was okay, Purchase car 4/11/08 from 2 owner WITH 94K. Motor start go BAD 104K AND TRANS TOO ON 5\23\11. Also the power window motor went out 3 time. Water pump went bad too. service and change oil and fluids every 1500 miles. First, the car started burning oil too fast. I was putting about 3 quarts of oil in it every weeks. Daimler-Chrysler should be ashamed of this 2.7L engine. i will never buy dodge again

I have driven this car for 3 years. Previously owned 3 Fords (Taurus). Liked the Intrepid very much, very roomy inside and large trunk. Car handles very well, with good power and great highway mileage. I would buy another Chrysler product.

2.7 Engine is pure junk - you’d be better off with a Matchbox car under each shoe. But….new and off the lot it WAS really nice all around

Great car

I bought a Dodge Intrepid 1999, with only 74.000 miles on it. It only had one owner, who took real good care of it, it's like brand new inside and out. It has the 2.7 mother in it but it runs great and I change the oil every 3,000 miles using the right kind of oil from jiffy lube. It's the nicest driving car I have ever owned, I can't wait to drive it every day. I have read many 2.7 owners who said they took good care of there cars and some have 200.000 miles on them.

Dodge Demo

I bought my Intrepid in '99. It was a demo with only 3000 miles on it. I loved the car until about 65,000 miles when the engine seized up and had to be rebuilt. I later found out that this is common with the Intrepid. Very costly repair. I gave it to my son to drive about a year ago and he recently totaled it in a crash. At this time it had 140,000 miles on it. Worked out pretty good for me though because trade in value was only about $1000.00 but the insurance company gave me $3000.00!

My girlfriend bought this car used, one year-old. It has been a great car with only one minor problem (an electric window that won't go down in back). The ride is good and the handling is very surprising for a four door sedan. I am impressed with the car.

Bad engine 2.7 liter

The intrepid was a great car UNTIL the engine fell apart at 73000. According to Jasper Engines, Dodge has a problem with the 2.7 liter engine in the Intrepid. Our Intrepid had to have new engine put in. Wish someone would have told me about the problem engine. Buyers beware.
