I have had this car since new and it does have some issues. cam sensors, heater fan is either off or on high. However, car has never left me stranded by the side of the road, gets good gas mileage for its size, and it's a great interstate touring car. Transmission line leaks a little(only in winter) Yes,I would buy another.

The biggest problem I had was at 20,000 miles the clear coat started to peal off the front of the car. Chrysler ended up repainting it and doing a lousy job. The trim "ES" and "Dodge" emblems look like crap now that the chrome plating has pealed off. Roters and front brakes at 40,000. Roters warped very bad. The driving lights are very disapointing, very dim, 35 watts and nothing larger available. Water in the headlights is very common. I am told that it is due to a pluged drain. I can't find it! Gas milage is awful. Average is 22-23. Basically the interior trim is ok. Everything fits together but the noise level in the car at 55 is awful.

I also had problems with both sensors. I learned too well what "Limp Mode" was! The total cost for both episodes was about $260 each. Definitively it's something that needs to be corrected. I have gone over 100K miles and I use it every day. I love he car and probably would buy another…If they fix those darn sensors.

Liked my Intrepid until year #3

My car has been great until the last six months. I've had to replace the speed sensor ($200), light switch sensor $200), now the air conditioner evaporator ($1200)and the security system goes off whenever since I had the a/c checked. It's been back in the shop twice and they can't find the problem. So, until six months ago, I loved my Interpid but now I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it and wonder what will go wrong next!

i own the 2.7 model of the intrepid and now i am having to get a new car because the engine is failing me. i really am trying to save you by telling you to not to buy the intrepid with the 2.7 engine, if it has the other engines you should be just fine. i absolutly loves my car until things started going wrong. the biggest thing right now is the oil consumption, i go through a quart of oil about every 200 miles and there is no leak it is all burnt, there is so much burnt oil coming out of the exhaust that it bothers people behind me. the blower motor also just had to be replaced and there are other things that need fixed but since i am getting a new vehicle im not going to waste my money.

We bought the car new. Within the first year we had to have the transmission rebuilt, then the ac/heater went out. The next year we had to have the transmission rebuilt, then the window came off track. Next year we had to have the starter rebuilt and the starter switch replaced. Then the ac went out again and the other window came off track. Finally we had to bury the car as it died. The oil pump went out without the sendor working and this caused the engine to seiz. We will never buy a Dodge product again!!!!

Just bought today, 24,000 miles on it and drives like a dream. Very tight handling, smooth and responsive. Huge trunk. Wish the radio was above the climate controls. Paid under $10,000 (we knew somebody). Happy as can be, although my RR window won't roll down. I'm glad I bought an aftermarket warranty :)

This car has been wonderful to me and my family. It is very roomy and provides space for five, tall adults. The ride is very smooth and comfortable for long trips. The only complaint is that the driver window sticks and falls off of the track. Other than that, there is absolutely nothing I would say is wrong with the car!

I have a 99 Intrepid with 65k miles. I've had nothing but problems with this vehichle. So far I've had 2 window motors replaced and a clamp bite through a hose causing an oil leak. This car loves to warp rotors. Now I've shelled out $1,400 to have a new Rack and pinion replaced and I still have problems related to steering. Don't look to Dodge to stand by their statement of "dependability". If this is the new Dodge, I think this will be my last Dodge.

2.7L engine has a knock and needs to be replaced. Mechanic thinks it's a bad rod/wristpin. Air conditioning won't hold freon and after $1200 in parts and labor I give up. Brakes required every 30,000 miles, power windows constantly need repair. Resale on this POS is so bad that I owe 2X what it's worth. I wish i'd spent the extra couple of grand on a Honda.

Purchase car August 28 2008. Motor went out December 24, 2008. Also the power window motor went out 3 days buying the car. After going to about 3 auto repairs shops trying to get a rebuilt motor or use motor I was told not to waste any more money on this car because it is no worth it. After talking to previous and past owner of this car mostly the same review, that it is a worthless piece that Dodge could have put out on the market

My Intrepid has less than 70K miles and already needs a new rack and pinion, has oil sludge in the engine, the lights will come on by themselves and won't turn off, and the heater only blows hot air when accelerating or the RPMs are over 1500. The car is falling apart.

I was pretty happy with my Intrepid - only minor issues for 10 years. Biggest item: Starter needed replacement after 7 years and AC gave in. After 10 years, crank sensors gave in (2 different ones), resulting in stalling engine (not funny!) and Starter had to be replaced, again. Engine started to burn oil rapidly, Fan only worked on MAX or not at all. Brake lines had to be replaced - lucky I wasn't in an accident. In the 11th year - BUMM - Power Control Module is giving up! Cost: 50% of what the car's worth. The Mechanic said, the location of the module is bad: too hot and too exposed = design issue. Next issue on the horizon: Oxygen Sensor for the Cat. Convrt. No sludge - not enough miles.

This car is drop dead gorgeous. It is easily the best looking car with four doors. The interior is huge and very comfortable and it dash and gauges look sporty. While the car is really big physically, it handles very well and is quite tossable on backroads. The base V6 could have been more powerful though, but it was adequate enough for most situations. Reliability is actually quite good with no serious problems to report, though with 75000 miles on it, the power windows are begining to short circuit sometimes. Overall, though, it is a very good car with good value, lots of style, and a high fun to drive quotient.

I have owned 5 Intrepids (actually 4 + 1 Eagle Vision). The last one (1999 ES) went over 100,000 miles before the first repair ($600). Unlike previous experiences with [mainly] Toyota, where I have spent up to 1/2 the new car value in repairs over the first 130,000 miles, the Intrepids have served me well.

I was driving to Lake Tahoe on a Saturday and the engine just started spazzing out for no reason. It felt like the timing belt jumped or I lost fuel but I let it sit for 10 minutes and it ran fine. 20 minutes down the road the same thing. 10 minutes later it ran fine. I drove another 100 miles to Tahoe and parked it. I started it up 2 days later and the wipers were spazzing out now. I drove it 120 miles and half way home it Spazzed out again. Idiot light was on and I brought it to the shop. Code was misfire. Light promptly went off and I drive it daily now. These cars are so heavily computerized that I think there is a hot wire somewhere to the trans that's causing this.Disappointe

I bought this car off lease and it was great for 6 months. Since then I have replaced the speed sensor the power stearing pump 2 times, the same belt 2 times, and the alternator 2 times. I had it worked on at the Dodge dealership here in town. On top of this I have also replaced the computer. The car is well maintained and has less than 80,000 miles on it.

The engine went on my well maintained 3.6L engine at 59,000 miles- no warning- no (reliable) explanation. After LOTS of headaches Chrysler paid half the repair bill directly to the dealer- refusing to speak directly to me at all- and I had to pay the remaining $4000 bill for a car that was not even 5 years old! I have been told that this is COMMON in this car but no one (Chrysler, BBB, Attny General, etc.) will do anything about it.

Like others, I have had a bad speed sensor and the driver side window motor has gone bad. Right now my car is in the shop with a bad evaporator. On the plus side, it is very roomy, great trunk space and fun to drive. . I have had no problems with paint as others seem to have had. Glove compartment is very small. Keyless entry is iffy - I recommend getting the battery replaced more often and go to Radio Shack - cost is 50% less than dealer. Concerned about the next big problem - can anyone say "Transmission?" As of today, my car is at 55k.

I bought an Intrepid ES with all options new in 1999 and have taken the car about 65,000 miles. While granted my annual mileage is low, I have kept a detailed log of repair expenses and have found the Intrepid to be very reliable to date. My transmission control module went at 35000 miles (warranty). Other repairs have been Keyless remote motor went ($200), Sway Link (warranty),passenger rear window motor ($150). So overall a very high quality level. The car is fun to drive, especially on long road trips. Handles well and has excellent acceleration for highway. I have found the performance in snow to be disappointing. Overall, when I see these cars listed for around $6K, it's a value

i started reading the bad reviews about 4 years ago and was nervous until i realized I had the 3.5 engine. Bought it new and have had it now 10 years with 145,000 miles. It is the most comfortable riding car i have ever had. Transmission problems in 2003, but other than that, nothing major. there have been a lot of little annoying things that have gone wrong: power windows, heater fan, power locks etc. Right now it seems to be running like a clock!

I have ownd my '99 ES since '00. I LOVE IT. I have had no major issues (with the exception of the brake rotors-- warping--COMMON PROBLEM!!) & a brake sensor -- I have only had to replace my cup holder (broken by my own fault); and my passenger front window motor is slow to roll up/down (due to someone hitting me as I was parked in a lot). I have added several 300 M parts (chrome shifter for autostick), chrome window switches, and 17" chrome wheels. If the gas mileage was better (or had a bigger engine --say 4.5L I would be EXTREMELY happy --I can carry all I ever need with 18.4 CU FT of trunk space!

I bought my Dodge Intrepid used a few years ago. I loved it despite the window problems I had initially. It was very comfortable to drive and a fun car in general. But then one thing broke down after another and they were all major concerns. My transmission has died costing $2,000 plus the speed sensors and other problems you can find online very easily. The oil system is also a major concern in most models because it was designed very poorly. Although this car seems great at first - try asking repair people their opinions on this car. You'll get a good laugh. Although my family members are employed by Chrysler, after this experience, I will never ever buy a Chrysler/Dodge product again!

At 52K miles I spent over 5k to replace the engine. They said lack of required maint. I say bad oil sending unit. Brakes $700 Window motors replaced under warranty as well as both engine fans. Lots of road noise and don't dare roll down the back windows while you are moving. Don't buy

Good car, no major problems. I'm about 6'3" so the size is a plus. I can strech out and drive comfortably. Decent power. I like the stock rims. In town gas mileage is low, but I have a heavy foot. Good highway mileage for its size. It does unbelivably amazing in snow and ice so long as you dont go too fast. It will go anywhere on slick roads without sliding! But if you try to take off fast on snow, wet, or even slightly wet roads, you will not move, just spin tires like crazy. My A/C went out so it is hot in the summer. I had some problems with the power windows but they all work now and I havent had problems with them for a long time. It has never left me stranded

List of Problems a.Driver seat bolt broke. (Thankfully, I was not driving.) b.All power windows have stopped working. (No more drive-thru meals.) c.Speed sensor has malfunctioned 3 times. (Once during rush hour in Atlanta) e.Power seat assembly is broken.(Costs $1K to replace... why throw good money after bad???) I am very happy with my Intrepid ES. I bought it with 65,000 miles on it. {100,000 mile warranty} It was a program car that was well taken care of. Leather interior and the works. Beautiful riding highway cruiser. I have 140,000 and it's ready for lots more. So far I have only had to put in a new starter & flywheel. I replaced the front struts and it's back to the ride it was when I got it. The only problem I have with it is the weatherstripping around all four doors has shrunk about 1 inch from time and weather. Dodge wouldn't do anything about covering it under the warranty for replacement. The mileage could be better, but I am really happy with it

I purchased the Intrepid after looking at the Volkswagon Passat. The Intrepid was roomier, it cost less, and had a better sound system and climate control. However, after just 37,000 miles, I had to replace the front bearing, rotors and pads under normal driving conditions at a cost of nearly $800. At 61,000 miles, I had to do the same for the rear. I also experienced transmission problems at 61,000 miles. I have enjoyed the room, comfort and gas mileage (23mpg city, 32mpg highway), but I am very disappointed in the mechanical quality of the vehicle.

When I purchased this car in '01 I did the research. At least I thought I did. Consumer reports had positive things to say about it but now I regret purchasing this car. My biggest issue is the price I paid for this car ($15995). Now I 'd be lucky to get $7000 for this thing. It's a money pit. I have had my share of issues from brakes to oil pan issues and AC in the last couple of years and I am now just waiting for the next big break in my pocket book. The sad thing is I know three other people I work with who wishes they had never made their Intrepid purchase.

We bought this car at an auction. At the time it was only a year old but had been taken care of well. It had 60,000+ miles when we purchased it. It had been a corprate car used for a lot of highway miles. We got it with new tires & we believe new brakes. No problems so far. We get over 350 miles to the tank (17 gal, I believe). Great excelleration, even on long uphill stretches. Runs away from anything. Smooth ride but all weather tires make for a noisy ride. Very comfortable for long drives or short. Handles well in cornering. Loads of trunk space. Full size snowboard (for 6' son) fits inside trunk with all the other gear. Can't say enough good stuff about this car. Thanks Dodge.

I bought this vehicle used with 36,000 miles. I've put over 27,000 miles a year on this baby and have had little or no trouble. She now has 230,000 miles and just needs a speed sensor. As long as you service and change your oil and fluids, your intrepid will run forever. She has the 2.7 and I'm very impressed. Too bad they have taken them off the market. I would not hesitate to buy another as long as I have the maintenance schedule. In all I've only put about $1000.00 into her, other than oil and fluid changes/tires and brakes.

this is a fun car to drive. 1st time owning a dodge. as long as maintained is a good car / risky if buying pre-owned. Common issue is head gasket, pistons & value guides causes car to smoke. After having these issues fixed I haven't been able to go to beach (anything to do with driving over mountains, huge inclines as such) but in city has been good car. Had car accident totaled vehicle I will not purchase another 1 but if had not been totaled I would still enjoy this car. Maintenance has not been to bad, really suggest just keep it up and should be an ok car.
