Used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Consumer Reviews
Engine died in heavy rain storm.
Dealer said water got into intake and disabled engine. Still in disbelief. Truck is labeled as a Trailboss but can't handle conditions normal cars don't have a problem with on public street. GM won’t cover under warranty and have to go through insurance for new engine. So try to avoid driving in heavy rain /over large puddles of water or sides of road where water puddles up during a rainstorm, won’t feel safe driving truck again in the rain until this problem is fixed.
Exactly what's wrong with the 2020 silverado
Good truck, but there are some dumb GM issues... First, the custom trim doesn't have any center console storage. This is insane because it would cost GM less money to install one good center console on their trucks instead of trying to force buyers into a trim upgrade. Second, the truck has a blind spot mirror on the driver's side. This would be a useful mirror on the passenger side, but it's totally stupid and useless on the driver's side. We don't need another mirror to see what's next to us on the driver's side because that's already visible in the regular mirror. We DO need that blind spot mirror on the passenger side where it belongs. Third, the radio (infotainment center) reboots randomly, so get used to having to pull over and re-enter any travel destinations while using apple car play, or get used to not having navigation. The implementation of car play is definitely a joke on the base trim. Fourth, the window controls flat out suck. Try to roll down a window and get it to stop where you want it to stop and you'll know why I'm writing this. Fifth, the gas filler. The gas gap was deleted on this truck in favor of a rubber flap. Standard pump nozzles will fight you a little to remove them after filling up. Not much, but just enough to drip gas on the body paint underneath the filler hole. Annoying and eventually that will ruin the paint. Sixth - the radio sucks in the base models. You have to turn the bass all the way up to get any decent sound, just to make it usable. Seventh - there are no radio controls on the steering wheel on the base models. It's 2020, this is laughable - the 5 year old toyota I traded in was better equipped inside. To summarize, this is a good truck, but GM went so cheap with the base interior that they should be ashamed. GM would make more money per sale if they stopped forcing upgrades over stupid things like center consoles, inferior radios, etc... anything with a 47K sticker should not be a compromise.

Motor blew up at 200 MILES!
I purchased a 2020 Silverado Trail Boss 6.2L on 10/17/2020. One 10/22/2020 with only a little over 200 miles a valve spring broke and cracked my block. Needs a new engine! This should be fun. Awaiting GM to inspect the engine to see "if it is covered". What out GM 6.2 owners!!!

Much improved - better look and ride!
I actually held off buying a Silverado due to the previous squared off fender wells. I did not like that look at all. An opportunity came for me to trade out of my 2019 Colorado into a 2020 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab and what an amazing truck this is! I would definitely recommend the CREW cab versus the DOUBLE cab if you can swing it. There is so much more room in the back of a crew cab. I love everything about this truck and I'm super happy that this doesn't have the lousy transmission that was in previous models.

High Country FTW
I am a recent purchaser of a High Country and this thing rocks. No issues so far and it is a head turner. I understand the interior might look dated, but after you drive it for awhile you realize it is because they need it to be a functional "TRUCK" interior, meaning they wanted "cheaper" plastics because they get dirty all the time! Even though the interior might be a little dull it does grow on you and appreciation levels of all the little cubbies and storage bins go way up as you become accustomed to them. When you buy a higher trim level, you get a massive technology suite that some rivals including RAM does not have. The info-entertainment center (while small) is very responsive and intuitive. The higher trim levels might include the rear backup mirror (which is amazing) and the 360 surround camera/tailoring camera. This is amazingly thought out and is great quality. I also didn't want a massive 12 inch screen that looks out of place in the center console. They all do the same thing, and I have no trouble reaching the one GM provides. The only thing I envy of other more modern truck owners is a panoramic sunroof which i'm sure they will come out with soon. That would put this truck way over the top in my opinion. The little sunroof it offers is just Meh. Overall very happy with my purchase and hope to keep it for a long time.

Don't drive in heavy rain
Unfortunately this big beautiful truck, is that's all it is. I have owned one for three months and I drove to go to the store in heavy rain all sorts of water rushing everywhere. I'm thinking suckers no water will hurt me. I guess I was wrong. I just left my home and I guess if you hit a small amount of water at the correct angle it will create a vacuum and draw water from under the front of the truck. So here is my big beautiful truck broke down and small vehicles are passing me by. Btw GM says it's my fault??? I guess I missed the disclaimer that tells me not to drive during rain. I guess I don't understand stand what a Trail boss Z71 mean? Don't get wet? I am so upset all the money I saved for the down payment, the 4 months getting everything together and researching all options. I guess we need to know your vehicles safe water depth. However in the owners manual it advises you that you can travel through water up to the top of the hub. I didn't even get close to that depth. I'm guessing 4", it was rushing down the hill. But nothing any other vehicle had issues with. If you own one please demand them to fix it. My girlfriend has a 2018 Tahoe and traveled the same route to come pick me up. (Maybe 1/4 mile) I called the dealership and they explained how it creates the vacuum and it's all because of the way it's vented at the top. There's a spray hose logo saying not to spray in the vent. That's what causes a vacuum, the suction from the radiator drawing in air and the nice tight seal at the top causes the engine to work like a vacuum. Which would be great to get the coolest air but obviously not. I want GM to completely fix my truck and make sure it doesn't happen again. Maybe put in a snorkel. GM wants me to submit this through insurance and I don't think that's the right thing to do. These should all be recalled and fixed. GM should warranty this and thank me for showing them this obvious flaw. Btw the dealership did say to me it is because of the design at the top because it isn't on the Tahoe my girlfriend owns. So why when I go to buy a 4x4 vehicle with a built in lift kit do I even have to think about worrying about driving on paved roads. I wish I could have taken it out somewhere, but I guess you can't with this delicate flower. Trust me I am not just complaining, I was so proud of this truck. It (stupid I know) felt so good working so hard for it and then it failed. The next big bummer was when it broke down I had this sense of security thinking everything will be fine because I didn't mistreat the truck at all. Idk if anyone has been through a divorce and then go through the pains of rebuilding your life and try so hard and your hard work is just thrown away. What happened to American craftsmanship and quality. The funny thing is that we have been loyal Chevrolet owners for over 20 years and that's why we bought this truck with confidence due to our history of owning many Chevy vehicles but I guess I need to switch to another make and build trust with them. Sorry if wordy I just want people to know my full experience so far. I hope this helps someone. Thanks 😁

2020 Trailboss WTF!
First off let me start with this truck was awesome until it wasn't. I live in the Los Angeles area and it rained yesterday which its Los Angeles so not much rain. Either way I happened to be in a parking lot when my truck suddenly stalled. Heard some clanking noise and it shutdown. Come to find out today somehow water got in the air intake and hydro locked my motor and made a rod crack the block. I literally was in a parking lot, maybe a couple inches of water at any given time. Has this happened to anyone else? Today the dealer told me this isn't GM issue but it is mine for driving in the rain... Seems odd that a truck designed for off-roading "trailboss" can't simply drive in the rain in Los Angeles. I reached out to GM and they have started a claim, just seeing if anyone else or if anyone knows of other instances like this. I bought this truck this March and has only 9k miles on it. I've only ever owned Chevy's so i'm hoping GM steps up and does the right thing. Seems to be some flaws in this design, this would make sense if i was under water but his wasn't the case. Amazing mileage
Traded my 2013 Ram 2500 Mega Cab for the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 RST with the Duramax and so far I love the truck. I normally average 32-34 mpg on the highway and 23 in the city. Average 22-24 towing my boat on the highway. The ride is much smoother than the ole 2500 and tows my boat like it's not even there. Only things I'm not use to is not having the ram boxes, manual engine brakes and not having as much cabin space. Other than that I like the truck. Could not select the proper trim in vehicle details because of the lack of Edmunds detail selections.

Check engine light at 4300 miles
Very disappointed to see check engine light after only 4300 miles. Also experiencing an intermittent issue with transmission. When shifting from park to drive or reverse it hesitates to engage.
MUSIC VIBRATIONS IN DOOR PANEL.
I have a 2020 LTZ Z71 SILVERADO. Beautiful truck! However i have noticed vibration noises in the front passenger door when playing the radio. I have even lightened the bass and still noticeable vibration noise in the passenger side front door panel. This is the only place where i have noticed. Did not notice in other door panels. I have a bose system so i should be able to enjoy good tunes with desired bass levels with no rattles or vibrations especially since this is a high end truck. Took it to the dealership and they went to other trucks of the same year make and model on the lot with the same issue with only in the front passenger side door so this sounds like a flaw somewhere. Maybe just cheap plastic! As of right now they are not able to solve the vibration noises until there is a fix for it. service adviser said that if more people complain about it then there would be a bulletin put out on it. so start complaining!!

7500 miles, 3rd time in the shop
I traded in an old 1999 Dodge 1500 4x4 for a 2020 Trail Boss 6.2. After 225,000 miles I thought the dodge's time was up. I should have kept it. The Trail boss was bought new, just over 9 miles on it and the rear brake light on the drivers side stopped working, I thought it was a bulb that was loose. Gm put a new blub in and sent me on my way. It went out again. Turned out it was the major wiring harness from the cab back. After 5 days the dealer had be back on the road, granted they put more miles on it that I had. At the 7500 mile mark my wife hit the remote start to go get coffee. She came back in the house and said the truck is making a clicking sound so I turned it off. The dealer came and picked it up on a flatbed. After sitting at the dealer for 3 days they said it was a bent push rod, due to a broken retain in a lifter. So its been at the dealer for 3 weeks total now in the 5 months that I have owned it. Looking into Lemon Laws for our State now. I should have just kept the old Dodge....

Nice truck with serious latent defects
This is one gorgeous truck with numerous well though-out factory installed options. The overall fit and finish are good, not great as I had to take mine back for adjustments to the hood and one door. The trailer hitch is NOT well thought out. It sticks out one inch past the bumper making it much harder to park the truck in a standard garage. Fuel economy has been just ok so far with 2250 miles and very careful driving I have been able to squeeze out 17.5 MPG with 70% highway miles. It really should do better than that. The interior is excellent. At $50,000+ this truck should come with a seat memory system. I don't like needing to re-adjust the seat every time I get it back from the dealer. And that leads me to what I believe are some serious latent defects in this truck. So far, I have experienced five (5) check engine lights for the exact same problem. Thankfully the OnStar diagnostics system captures each failure, provides a date and time stamp, and sends you an email with the details. Do yourself a favor and keep every one you receive. You will need them if you decide to take legal action. My truck has constant problems related to 1, the lithium-ion battery (part of the auto start/stop system), and 2, the engine / transmission system (again related to the auto start/stop). So far despite the dealer and GM factory's best technicians working the problem and driving the daylights out of my truck in the process, they have not been able to identify and properly solve the underlying problem.

2020 Chevy Silverado Double Cab 1500
The Chevy Silverado is a great truck, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a LT or LTZ truck since it is actually a work truck. Bit, it meets all of my expectations since I mainly use it for pulling my travel trailer and hauling lumber or landscaping items for the use around our house.

Check engine light on 2 times in the first 3 months. The brake light on first 6 months. Rear window leaked and had to be replaced. Idler pulley bad at 25k miles. Transmission shudder started at 20k miles and now hard shifting at 28k miles. Been to shop twice and GM says it's normal. JUNK

Great Looking truck outside, (inside not so much)!
I was drawn to the 2020 Silverado Trail Boss for it's looks. Outside they got it right. The inside, for a truck with a MSRP of @46K is very sad. My 2010 Tundra base model that I traded had more standard cab features than my new SIlverado. My top complaints, storage in center console, cheap plastic looks, no garage door opener, lacks interior storage, no rear inner fender liners, no steering wheel controls. In my opinion, if they added all of the options above and just charged a few hundred dollars it would make a much better truck. I almost bought the Ram just because it seems like more bang for the buck. I hope I made the right purchase, but only time will tell!!

The check engine light will start flashing for approx 15 seconds the quit for 2 minutes and start again. Not over heating oil pressure is dropping and dealerships says them or GM engineers has no clue what’s wrong with it. Just be careful of it.

2020 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 CUSTOM TRAIL BOSS
If I could give this a "no star review", I would. I purchased a Custom Trail Boss in September 2020. For the first three months I was very pleased until Tuesday 12/8/20. I was taking my son to Lacrosse workouts and right when we got there my pickup was acting violently and long story short was stranded on the side of the road in 30 degree temps. I eventually had my trucked towed to the local dealership. It took the dealership 2 days to figure out what was going on. Apparently a valve spring came loose which caused a piece to get sucked into the cylinder and destroy the engine. The dealership contacted GM. GM advised the dealership to put a completely new motor in the truck. This was as of yesterday. Do I think GM is making this right? Absolutely not. They should give me a new truck. My pickup only had 900 miles when the engine decided to "blow up". This is my first Chevy and will never purchase/lease another one. If you are reading this message and you are considering buying a new Chevy pickup I would say don't do it.

Made in Mexico....
What a joke of a Truck. Thing is half decent quality and half cheap plastic. The knobs on the dash feel like something out of a dollar candy machine. Some parts are nice and others are horrible. The seats are so low and you cant adjust the height on them at all. I am 6ft and i am staring directly at the dash and my feet are out in front of me like i am sitting in a low chair. The transmission shifts like a 70's dump truck. What is happening to auto makers? Everything is going south very quickly.

2020 Silverado 1500 RST Z71 Duramax 3.0 Double Cab
Rides great, quiet cab, functional and easy to use controls. The dashboard and interior is easy to use and very comfortable. The ranchero shocks are a great improvement on my previous 2010 truck. the best part around town/local driving 27.7mpg. highway 62-70mph up to 32.6 mpg. My old 2010 GMC Sierra 5.3 with cylinder deactivation never was above 20mpg on the highway and 16 around town. Towing a 27' Airstream with ease and getting up to 18mpg while towing. Have 63000 miles on it now. Still getting up to 33mpg on the highway and 27 around town. No problems, great ride and I rather drive the truck then my car because of the visibility down the road as well as using less fuel. Just ordered a 2025 RST Double Cab with the Max tow package as well which increases towing from 9700 to 13000 pounds, with more payload as well. Keeping the 2020 for my son.

2020 Birthday Silverado
Decided in November of 2020 I'd trade in my 2005 Silverado for a new model....Turns out it may be the best vehicle purchase of my life!! The 05 model had 262,000 miles without a major problem with regular maintenance!! I specked out the items that I was interested in with the dealer and within 30 minutes 2 LT models....One with the 2.7 Liter Turbo and the other with the 5.3 FI were found within one hour of the dealer. I had no clue that the 2.7 existed so I went home and researched the new engine and drivetrain. With new technology there are always going to be detractors but the research showed that the engine was similar to the 3.0 Duramax in construction plus it could tow 9500 lbs. which was plenty capacity to tow my two boats and had more horses 310 vs. 285 than my 2005 V8!! I went back to the dealer and tested the 2.7 Turbo and was impressed when the pedal went to the metal so I had the dealer pick up the 2.7 Turbo. The new design had an aggressive stance more ground clearance and added technology features that I was not expecting!! I had the dealer add running boards and fog lights and I added a slew of interior visual after market accents plus I changed all the exterior lighting to LED's with no problems!! After 7 months I'm averaging 22 mpg in combined mileage and routinely get 25 mpg on the highway here on the Florida Gulf Coast. This new 2020 Silverado has turned out to be an excellent purchase!!

Nice Improvements. Solid Truck.
Upgraded to the 2020 Silverado after running my 2013 steadily for 7 years. I like most everything about the truck. I love the new body style. I grew up in the 60s and the lines on the 2020 hint of that classic Chevy style. The truck is a tad roomier and higher than my 2013. I like the fairly basic interior, but the 8 inch display, heated wheel and seats, information center in the dash and loads of storage make just the right amount of modern conveniences for me without being overly high tech looking. I have the 5.3L V8 and it’s a smoother and crisper engine than the Vortech in my 13 was. The paint is even nicer. There is a textured layer with 3m around the base of the cab for rust prevention and the under carriage is nicely coated. So far I am very happy with this model year.

1500 Diesel / transmission issues
I've had several German made diesel vehicles. They were all spectacular. I decided to purchase a Chevrolet with the 6 Cyl and couldn't be more disappointed. I purchased it in Nov 2019 and its been in the shop about 4 times for multiple issues primarily, check engine light, severe clunking (feels like you ran over a telephone pole at 70 MPH) Leaking oil etc.. .

Great Truck!
I wanted a basic 4 X 4 Crew cab truck with minimal options. This Silverado met all of my needs. V8 power option, and tow package with transmission cooler and locking differential. Very tight, quiet solid ride and great steering. I traded a Ford F-150 in on it. Ford makes a Great truck but this Silverado met my needs at a great price.

First Truck
We picked the Silverado Texas Edition 4X4 LTZ with the Z71 package. The truck is beautiful and massive...Whlle the ride is a little rougher than the Honda Pilot we traded...Not much...and the power is awesome! The computer is intuitive...and this is the first time I was able to link my rolling garage door with one try! The leather is soft and comfy and I am looking forward to figuring it all out...

Decent truck with awful paint
the truck is powerful and pulls anything. After only one week of owning it I had already completely waxed it and was washing it a second time to apply the second coat of wax and noticed paint chips all over the doors. Every week it has new chips in the paint. The under carriage also has spots of rust already. This is just a cheaply put together truck and the owner will pay the price. I really wish I would have bought a tundra
Comfortable, good on gas, great turns.
I have had no problems with this truck in the first few months that I have had it. The only minus star is on the dealer. They gave me a good truck at a great price but I had to put up with a whole bunch of crap to get it. It was worth it though. Just double check your paperwork at your Chevrolet dealers. Their internet programs suck and they make continuous mistakes on basic important information. They don't know their work trucks either. They could explain the hell out of a loaded truck, but when it comes to a basic WT model, they don't know what the hell to say. Even with this review, I don't get the opportunity to pick the V8 engine that I have in my truck, so the v6 that is chosen is false but I had to choose it in order to do this review. I have a 5.3 V8.
2020 Silverado high country
I have 2,000 miles on it and already has a check engine light. Got an email from OnStar saying a problem with the engine and transmission has been detected.
6.2 High Country! Great truck and eye catching!
Almost 3,000 miles and so far it's been great! The 6.2 is definitely worth it! It's a beast and will pull anything I will ever need to and it hauls A$$! Gas mileage is okay but it's a truck! I see lots of comments about the ride but it's a truck. If I wanted a car ride I would have bought a car. The technology is good for what most people need and in my mind huge screens and too many features just become a distraction like bad drivers need anymore! It has tons of storage and cup holders as I have 3 kids. My children absolutely love this truck. I've had a F150 and a Tundra and they were both good trucks but so far this Chevy has been a better truck. I could nitpick a few small things but honestly there's always going to be things to comment about and nothing's perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this truck to others.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss
Just purchased my truck Aug 22nd. Very pleased with the performance of the vehicle. Three teenagers fit comfortably in the back seat. The 2 USB ports in the back allow them to plug in to charge or just use their devices if desired. The 8" screen is easy to see and use. Front Seats are very comfortable but the real test will be seating 3 in the front. Very pleased with my purchased.
Happy High Country Owner
I’ve ran GM trucks for 35 years. This is my favorite and I’ve had some wonderful ones. This turns heads and is a joy to drive. The windshield info display is nice. The ride is good and the steering is tight and responsive. It does have a higher center of gravity and it doesn’t corner as well on curves at high speeds. That’s the only negative and it’s a small one I did buy my first extended warranty due to all the technology on this vehicle.

The Worst Truck Ever!!!
I’m purchased my 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 in January 2020 I gotta say it the worst truck I bought in my LIFE..... ITS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP GARAGE THRN IT HAS BEEN IN MIND. IT ALL BECAUSE OF A SOUND IN THE FRONT END THAT NO ONE CAN FIGURE IT OUT. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 4,000 miles on it. So if you are looking for a new truck skip the Chevy and go to ford or dodge. STAY AWAY FROM CHEVY!!!!

AWESOME TRUCK. . . For 700 miles.
I had issues with my 2018 silverado but saw they had a new transmission and I loved the trail boss so I got a loaded trailboss for about 60k. Loved the truck, loved the drive. Then had a "major electrical issue" according to the local dealer when the check engine light came on. But don't worry the dealer will give you a great chevy trax as a loaner, while they figure out whats wrong with my brand new truck. Sarcasm. . . .but seriously the truck looks great.
Feels generic
I will never buy a Chevy again unless they change the interior. It feels very cheap compared to my 2018. Love lost on the interior and Xm radio only on certain models. I feel it’s over priced for the quality that there giving you, which is not much these days. I guess I will shop ford or ram next time unless they can change my mind.

2020 Silverado RST Midnight Edition
Very sexy looking truck. Had everything to detail what I would design and alter for the truck to be my taste. Chevy did a great job designing the exterior of this truck. And the floor has the Chevrolet “weather-tech” floor liners which are great. I do wish the interior was leather and had power seats, but I may at least upgrade to leather later on. Excited about the 2.7 Liter 4cylinder engine. Looking forward to saving major $ in gas. I traded in my 2009 2500HD LTZ Crew Cab 8ft bed, so it will certainly be an adjustment.
Brake failure on highway!
Bought my 2020 Silverado 1500 brand new less than a year ago. 20,000 miles and I have had two brake failure incidents. Literally the scariest thing ever, 70-75mph and a message of “system break failure“ comes on and boom no breaks. Thankfully I have managed to get off the road both times. Getting towed to a dealer as I type this. Massage lawsuit if this were do end up in an accident for anyone. This is my family car for god sakes..

Best Ride You Can Get
I purchased my 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ Crew Cab w/4whl drive after driving my 2018 Colorado ZR2. This was a good choice and good change. I enjoyed the ZR2 but for motoring with my wife, the Silverado is a much better choice. Larger and more comfortable seats, many options offered to make driving the Silverado a plus! Pricey but well worth the $ for the options and peace of mind. I do not have any negative comments. A good truck and well engineered with the user in mind. I dont think I will use all the available options, however they are available to make motoring with the truck a real pleasure.

Pretty cool
Not too bad, decent power, decent fuel economy, decent esthetics, interior is a little boring, but spacious. I think the steering could be stiffer for a more enjoyable ride, but overall a good truck

Silver rides again
Have had the truck little over a month. I love everything about it. Plenty of room, drives really well. Gas mileage is little better than expected. Interior is comfortable. Mine has the 2.7 Turbo but doesn’t seem to be an option for the custom crew cab below.

Cool looking Custom
5000 miles on my Silverado Custom 4 Cylinder. It’s kinda fun to drive pretty quick truck. My only complaint so far is you can’t control the radio from the steering wheel.

Great on the Highway but a few reservations
It has good power and loves running fast on the highway. Problems are that cruising at slower speeds you feel a lot of hesitation in the throttle. Another huge irritation to me is the cutting off of the engine when you stop at a red light or stop sign. The padding in the seats is almost nonexistent.

This could be my last GM vehicle
I have exclusively purchased GM vehicles for over 25 years. I currently own 4 now. THINGS I HATE ABOUT MY 2020 SILVERADO. 1. The daytime driving lights! Every time I unlock the doors headlights come on blinding me and my neighbors. Can't key the door because the lock buttons are disabled until you start the truck...then headlights come on again when I start it. 2. The auto stop! I can't stand it and I can't disabled it without taking my dash apart. 3. Rear camera is freaking bright! It blinds me at night and I can't see out my mirrors. 4. That stupid alarm that goes off when I park. It reminds me not to forget my kids in the back seat. MF-er! I DON'T HAVE SMALL KIDS ANYMORE and how dare you put me in the same category as those dumbasses that forget their kids in car! They don't forget their phones in the car but they forget their kids! I know it sounds petty but I struggle with these things on a daily basis. Love the drive and love the power but when I drive an F-150 for work it makes me think I should consider a change.

Solid performer
There may be other males or models that have more bells and whistles but my truck is the best combination of work and play. I cannot find a fault. It’s comfortable on the commute and willingly works. It hauls anything I put in the bed or tow on the hitch.

Great Truck, almost everything
If you can get pass the sticker shock and past paying for little upgrades you would think are standard no better half ton pickup.
