Used 2004 Volkswagen Touareg V6 AWD 4dr SUV (3.2L 6cyl 6A) Consumer Reviews
An other week without my Touareg
I would not take this vehicle further than 10 miles from home because of reliability problems. Number of ignition coils, air bag, tire pressure, faulty gas cap, door locking problems, just to name a few. Last VW I will ever own!!
The Touraeg deserves a serious look
VW has really built a wonderful vehicle with the Touraeg. The ride, noise level (or lack thereof), interior layout, easy to read gauges and thoughtfull "extras" are outstanding. Its 4 wheel capabilities are awsome. We recently had it on a long road trip and found that the ride and handling were so good we were not nearly as tired, etc. from a long day of driving. Overall we love this car.

Nice Car
The Touareg is a nice car, Very elegant interior. The rear visibility is better than in the cayenne, as well as having the same engine and transmission for $10,000 less, but was still a tough descision. The Navigation system is nice how it gives voice prompts, but nag screens for 'safety' become annoying to passenger. Park Beepers too sensitive. With all of these good things, there were still setbacks. Phantom sunroof would only go in direction of selector (wouldnt stop) when at target (weird!). Mileage was around 12 for several months the Xenon Lights will occasionally go 'out' and rain sensor faulty.
Do Not Buy It!
My Touareg has been the worst vehicle that I've had ever. It has been a constant visitor to the service department for recalls, campaigns, alignments, all sorts of warning lights coming on, over 45 days in service - engine has been removed twice to replace parts gone bad. I am going for the Lemon Law - BAD BAD BAD - especially for the price! this truck has received many terrible reviews throughout the web. It gets terrible gas mileage. I can't imagine how much this truck would cost someone who owned it after the warranty had expired. I have heard that Volkswagen is buying back a lot of Touaregs.
Poor Quality
Purchased on a Sat. afternoon. Within the 20 mile home I already had problems. First the heated seats didn't work, the CD player broke, the head lights were not aligned correctly, the steering wheel was not top centered. The car had a bad shake at 70 MPH and pulled to the right. After I got home I noticed paint discoloration on the lift gate. I did more research online and found this to be a problematic vehicle. See club touareg.com. It is filled with horror stories of poor quality, numerous breakdowns, and little available parts to fix your vehicle. I brought it back to the dealer I bought mine from on Monday and got my money and trade-in back.
