Used 2006 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
I chose an '06 Jetta TDI over the Cadillac CTS
My '04 Cadillac CTS was totaled and I chose the Jetta TDI over another CTS. The current model is as large as the '05 Passat. It has plenty of interior room. The trunk is very large and the rear seats fold down. There are many standard features on this car that you would normally have to pay extra for on other cars. The interior materials are of high quality. The diesel engine is relatively quiet. The seats are comfortable with plenty of adjustments. I have Pkg. 1 with the steptronic transmission (very smooth) and leatherette seats which I prefer for carrying dogs. Its handling is very good and it cruises like a dream at 75-80 mph. My first tank of diesel averaged 41 mpg with a 50/50 mix of driving. This is a great car!
LoveMyJetta!
I purchased my car used a year ago with 22,000 miles on it. I was reluctant about buying a used vehicle, but needed something inexpensive and good on gas for my long commute to work. My jetta now has over 57,000 miles on it and has NOT let me down! The car is roomier than the generation of Jettas before this model. The trunk space is HUGE and with the folding rear seats, you can pack a lot of items without a problem. The car takes synthetic oil, which can be costly compared to an oil change using regular oil. However synthetic oil is better for your car anyway and is typical for European engineered vehicles. Overall a great vehicle.

Above Average
This car seems to have the same issues as other cars. I bought it new with a grand total of three miles on it. 60,000 miles later the airbag light is on and a coolant temperature sensor has failed. Don't know about the airbag light but the temperature sensor is about $20 from NAPA. The fuel economy is excellent, I average 47 mpg to and from work. I use the cruise control as much as possible and that seems to help. I am not a VW guy and to be honest the car is a little feminine for me but I'm long over it. It does use weird oil and oil filters but so far haven't had a problem at Jiffy Lubes across the country. I definatly recommend this car, I think its better then most others
You need to drive one
This is my third and favorite VW. I have previously owned a '00 Golf, '01 GTI VR6, and an Audi A6 4.2. The Audi is the standard I have come to judge all other vehicles by and the TDI stands up well. The power/economy ratio cannot be disputed. It does lack power over 80 mph but the torque from 10-60 is great. The DSG is the most amazing transmission I have ever driven. It is lightning fast and smooth shifts plus one more gear than the stick! I bought the car over the phone and did not spend enough time checking fit and finish on the lot; as a result I have found a few build quality issues. They are minor overall, but really check your car out before you drive off, Hecho in Mexico. Great Car!
A wonderful car
I test drove the Lexus IS 250, Toyota Camry V6, Honda Accord V6, Mazda3, Chevy Impala SS, Subaru Legacy 2.5GT, Acura TL, Infiniti G35 and a few others, only to fall in love with the Jetta within 5 minutes of the test drive. The Jetta 2.0T represents a wonderful combination of ride, handling, power, and fuel economy. The build quality/material are on par with many luxury vehicles. The interior is tastefully designed with great ergonomics. The engine has very good pickup, especially in 3rd and 4th gear, and it feels like it is gaining more power after the 1st and second oil change. The powerful brakes saved my day a few time already.
