Used 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLS VR6 4dr Sedan Consumer Reviews
What a mistake
This vehicle was purchased new in April of 2000. It has been back to the dealership for Check Engine light service an average of 6 times per year. I have had it serviced in April, May, June and have an appointment for July of this year. My father drove a VW Bus from 1978 until 1998 and it was still in good shape when he sold it, I thought VW was a vehicle I could rely on, but that has not been my experience. I've spent over $1,000 on service so far this year. Oh, and by the way, when you take the car in for service be sure to remind the techs to check the oil; two different dealerships failed to do this when the vehicle was brought in for basic service.
No more vws !!!!
I've owned volkswagens before. They have been reliable and nearly indestructable. Had a Dasher that ran until 300,000 miles without any major repairs. I guess reliability is no longer a VW goal. The litany of things that have gone wrong with this car is amazing. MAF Sensor (2), Oxygen sensor (3), brakes (every year), broken windows (3), psycho electronics - not to mention the bloody check engine light. $80 just to see what the light means! Outrageous. I say disconnect the damned thing. We purchased the car because we knew we needed a reliable car with a bit of luxury. The wife drives the car for the mostpart and it is babied. Next times it's a Toyota!

Erin's review
I have a love hate relationship with this car. Love the way it looks, hate the way it performs. Since day one, nothing but problems, currently working with vofa to try to get it fixed (cat convert anyone?). 10 y. O., just turned 60,000 miles because I'm afraid to take it anywhere for fear I won't get there -- or back home. Cup holders, glove box hinge, arm rest: broken. Currently, bucking like a bronco. Do not buy VW.
AAAHHH!!
I bought my 2000 Jetta from a dealership in April. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I have had nothing but problems and I've only had the car for 4 months! A week after I bought it, the headlights and dash board lights went out. Then about 2 weeks later my brakes starting making a horrible grinding noise. I brought it back into the dealership and they said there was nothing they could do about it because brakes were not covered under my 30 day warranty! About a month ago my brakes went out. I replaced them but my car still made the grinding noise. I brought my car back in and they told me my ABS modual went out. I plan to get rid of it as soon as I can. What a horribly built car!
Run away!!!
This vehicle represents the biggest nightmare of my life. I should have known when the transmission failed with 3,000 miles on it that I was in big trouble. 15 major repairs including 3 transmissions later, I find myself waiting to find out why the check engine light went on this time. Volkswagen did absolutely nothing to try to reconcile the piece of garbage that they sold me, and consequently, I will never buy another product from them. I have never gone more than 4 months without needing some sort of major repairs on this car. I will never buy a Volkswagen again.
