First, this is NOT a Tesla, if your primary consideration is to compare it with a Model Y, then you may be disappointed. I bought a ID.4 First Edition. It is a wonderful compact SUV, but its primary target audience is not Tesla buyers, it is RAV4, CRV, and other small SUV buyers. When compared to that group, I feel you can't go wrong with the ID.4. You get a competent, well laid out SUV that happens to run on electric. Here are the positives - Electric range is 250 miles according to the EPA, I have found in real life if you stick to the speed limits you will achieve this easily. Temperature can impact this, but I have found the range to be adequate. Using a 125KW charger at Electrify America, the vehicle can recharge from 5% to 80% in about a half hour. That gives you about 200 miles of range. As a bonus, 3 years of charging at EA stations is included free for 3 years. - Driving, I enjoy driving this car very much. It is extremely quiet and smooth, acceleration is on par with other small SUVs. Torque is instant and will throw you back in your seat. Since the center of gravity is low, and VW includes wide tires, this vehicle handles better than you would expect. This vehicle is extremely comfortable, the seats have great padding. Cargo room is about what you would expect in a small SUV. My First Edition has a HUGE fixed moon roof that is an awesome feature. - Operating costs are phenomenal. I live in Ohio and charging this from 5% to 80% takes about 6 hours on a level 2 charger at 40 amps. It costs about $5 and nets about 200 miles of range. At 30 MPG in a traditional SUV that would cost about $20 at $3 a gallon. *Remember you can charge at Electrify America stations for FREE. There is no real maintenance to speak of except routine inspections and air filter changes. - Technology, here is where I take away half a star. The infotainment system and vehicle controls work well, but there is a learning curve. Don't skip the orientation at the dealership. Expect to take about two hours to go through your vehicle with the dealer. There is A LOT to learn. Once you understand how the system and controls operate, they are actually quite fun to use. Being an early release, there are some obvious improvements that need to be made. One of them is in the navigation system. It is just downright awful. It will add charging stations to your trip as needed, but they often are slow level 2 chargers and not the DC fast charging that would be a better option. While this is a big miss, you can use your choice of third party navigation apps through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Using the Plugshare app, will help you plot charging stations along your route. It is an extra step that I hope VW resolves with an upcoming update. By the way, this car is completely capable of over the air updates. Which means that no trip to the dealer is required to update the software and enable new features. In summary, I am very pleased that I made the choice to purchase this car. It has exceeded my expectations and I actually look forward to driving it. VW did a great job and in true VW fashion, the build quality is excellent. I think this is a solid choice for someone looking for an electric suv. With the $7500 tax credit, this vehicle is an amazing value. I encourage you to put it on your list and go test drive it.

We've never been VW fans. Each time we test-drove one, the vehicle fell short of the competition. However, the ID.4 not being your typical Volkswagen, we pursued a possible purchase. We drove a demo, and were impressed. The general consensus from three dealerships was that we'd have to order one to our specs online, then wait for it to be built and shipped from Germany. The fourth dealer in the area showed one available. By the quirk of luck, a model (1st Edition) dressed exactly as we would have ordered it was sitting on that showroom's floor. Apparently, the purchaser declined delivery, and we were able to buy it. For starters, it doesn't look like any EV on the road ... no funny shape (looks just the same as a standard SUV) or cheesy interiors (actually borders on the upscale). Range is just over 250 miles, three years of free charging through Electrify America, $7500 tax credit (provided you owe that much on your return) ... priced fairly (MSRP $45,100, we paid $44,400). Driving is a pleasure, smooth without being sloppy, plenty of pickup (entered the freeway with no problem), responsive handling, comfortable seating, not to mention quiet. We've also driven a Tesla Model Y ... no comparison whatsoever. If you can get to drive an ID.4, do it. You'll be impressed, too. Update: After ten months of ownership, nothing about this vehicle has changed our opinion. It remains an outstanding EV. My wife is the primary driver, and raves about it to whomever will listen (and some folks who won't). We have a 220/240 setup in the garage, so charging is not an issue. No regrets about the purchase.

Considering I've owned 17 new cars since 1969, some of which were premium vehicles. I have certainly had the experience of quality in my driving career. For 10 years I traveled 17 states for a living from Ohio to the West Coast in a 1994 Volvo 850, a superb vehicle for comfort and safety. I never fully intended to visit the idea of ID4 ownership until I happened into my dealer with a 2020 Tiguan SEL, another fine vehicle. I was however getting very tired of shelling out for gas with the prices steadily rising. So lets get to the meat of the matter. I took the test drive and found the following. The ride quality and ability to absorb road defects was the finest I have had the opportunity to experience including all of what Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Toyota have to offer having driven them recently. Here's another kicker. The seats were by far the finest I've sat in no matter HOW much the vehicles cost and I'm talking up to $80k cars and SUV's I've checked out along the way. They are so comfortable and adjustable beyond compare. The Infotainment system is much criticized but let me just say that once you've seen a few good Youtube video's on how to customize and use it, it's a breeze, and the sound is darned good for not being a super premium system. The details it provides on the car and all the settings you can customize is staggering but welcome. Another thing that in noted almost immediately was the choice of materials used inside and fit and finish are top flight as in a luxury vehicle. That sure won me over. Every aspect of the vehicles design and operation from the mechanics to the seats and storage is classic German engineering, not the plasticky Japanese inspired stuff. I love the nice 19" tires of my Pro S which also came with about all the added features you can get. The suspension is also remarkable in it's suppleness and also the shear flat handling in corners at speeds which I was not used to. All the safety features work so well I was able to go 30 miles on a rural highway without touching a pedal. The wonderful Adaptive Cruise allowed me to effortlessly follow a car in front of me at a very good distance, and when we came to reduced speed corners my vehicle slowed perfectly to negotiate the turns. I LOVE that brake regenerative mode to drive as I rarely need to touch the brake. It is smooth and NOT abrupt like some seem to think it should be. NO thanks this is great. All the lighting and adaptive front lights keep up with the latest in safety and competency for night driving scenarios. I love the beefy, solid and tight steering wheel and love it's accuracy with NO slop. Closing the doors provide that wonderful solid bank vault type of thunk. The auto up and down back hatch is also a real delight. Storage space is simply outstanding and the hidden compartments are a real joy as well being so cleverly applied. All in all this vehicle is flat out fun to drive and I can't wait to get into it and go somewhere. I'm using only the supplied 110v charging cord and it's all I need as we often don't go anywhere for several days at a time so it's perfect, no need for a Level 2 charging system. I can only say to drive this vehicle is to love it. It rides and handles like a dream.

August 4, 2023: Oh, how badly things ended up with our ID4. After the initial excitement and wonder of our first EV, things started getting weird. The infotainment was extremely sluggish. In Texas heat, having to wait 20 seconds to be able to turn on or adjust the AC was brutal. Voice commands were a joke. Our first issue was cruise control not working. I finally theorized it might be because the cars front sensors were dirty. We washed the car, it started working again. Wow. Then the car began shutting down at driving/highway speeds with no warning. Talk about scary/dangerous. This happened at least 5 times over the course of our ownership across 2 drivers. There would be times the car would not recognize the key fob (after changing battery) resulting in getting stranded, having to walk away from car, wait a few minutes and it miraculously worked again. Our local dealer literally did not have the knowledge or tools to complete the recalls on the vehicle. We finally had to drive it to Dallas (with the issues) to get it done. The final straw for me was hearing it had a recall on the door handles which can fly off -- but there was no available fix yet for our model. (not to mention the recall had to perform promised OTA updates that actually take 18 hours plugged in at a dealer -- and bad cells in the battery). We traded for another vehicle. I probably should have pursued compensation from VW but as two working owners, we just don't have the time to be without a vehicle or the energy to dispute. We lost money on this for sure. I do NOT recommend this vehicle. We were looking to get out of an expensive finance mistake and ended up leasing a 1st edition ID4. We already have a VW Beetle and know that VW is a great brand and has always offered us an affordable option but with a focus on driver experience and affordable tech plus compared to other vehicles maintenance cost has always been great. The ID4 feels like a luxury vehicle in the 1st edition trim. Seats are extremely comfortable. We drove 365 miles on the highway from the dealer and found it to be very quiet, adequately powerful and fun to drive. The safety and tech features are top notch. We of course had range anxiety due to our distance from purchasing dealer but we were pleasantly surprised. Electrify America stations did give us a couple of issues (some were because of operator error) but their support line has a human answer the call within 1-2 minutes, amazing! We made it home with no worries and are already planning next mini road trip. Visibility on front windshield is superb. Panoramic moonroof (viewing only no open) is amazing. GREAT storage for drinks / flexibility of moving storage holders for big cups etc. Wireless charging is a plus. Android Auto & Apple Car Play. USB-C plugs. Motorized trunk opening/closing. Hard to talk about long term range yet due to new ownership. I would say this vehicle feels next get but is still enough like a regular crossover SUV that it is not a drastic change. I don't want to attract too much attention personally. My only complaint so far is the infotainment system seems to have too many options. I also personally like traditional buttons and knobs for climate control / radio. There is a volume "slider" and temp up and down buttons but most of the ac controls are on the screen. We will get used to it. Minor complaint. I would prefer it to have a spare tire but I know most vehicles are moving to eliminate that as well. All in all, this feels like a high-end affordable electric vehicle. We are optimistic that charging infrastructure will continue to improve in Texas. For now, it does have our most travelled routes places like El Paso, Midland, DFW and then El Paso, San Antonio, Austin. I would highly recommend this vehicle.

Got my ID4 1st Edition at VW Boston last week. I have to say that this vehicle feels by far like the best purchase for value of any vehicle out there if you are looking for a gas-saver EV with good range without settling for a cube/drab looking transportation pods (the case for most EVs out there except for Tesla). First, gas savings. I commuted in my SUV over 200 miles daily. I will now save $600 a month in gas. Second, I get a $7,500 credit from Uncle Sam and a $2,500 check from the State of Massachusetts for getting an EV. For me, I am essentially net out of pocket zero for the first three years that I get to own this excellent piece of German engineering that the ID4 is. Range: I'm getting about 280 on a charge as long as I keep my highway speed between 60-65. Your range will decrease as you increase your speed. Safety features galore. Anything that is out there the ID4 has. Luxury features, too many to mention. My favorite one: seat massage on both the driver and passenger side. Panoramic Moonroof, CarPlay/Android, Semi Autonomous Driving (car seems ready on the hardware side of things for full auto- software blocked for now to semi-autonomous with warnings and system triggered to brake and park car if it does not detect a driver). Stop and go Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Braking etc. I could go on and on about all the features in this vehicle. Slight negatives, voice control lags 2 or 3 seconds too long something that I am sure will improve over time with over the air updates. Slight negative turned into a positive- tactile touch screen was unresponsive on day one. I scheduled service with VW Boston, gave me a loaner (Jetta SEL-nice car for the the price point), ordered a new computer for my infotainment and I picked up car two days later. Infotainment works great now- lagging is gone and touch screen responds to tactile commands easily. I believe the use of the touchscreen for basically almost every command for the car features may be a little bit of a hassle for those who prefer buttons but I've found myself getting used to it easily over the course of several days. Charging- I've used Electrify America for the fast charge and gotten about the reported 80% in 35 minutes. Did this while shopping at the Home Depot where they had the charging stations in the parking lot. I also get to charge in my condo where we have free charging stations. Btw, VW gives you 3 years of free charging too. If you are looking for an EV mid-size SUV with everything going for it the ID4 I feel is by fat the best choice. I considered Tesla Y, but the ID4 with its German Engineering DNA has a better fit and finish. This VW surpasses all of the companies previous products, more in line with Audi-like finish. My bet is that the ID4 will compete head to head against the Tesla Y and the Mustang EV in sales and win. TY VW you put out a great product. Tesla is going to have to up their game now and this can only benefit all consumers.

New '22 ID.4. Great range,(280miles). Fast, extremely quiet. Spacious interior front and back. Charging is extremely quick. 20 minutes while in getting some groceries or a bagel and there's 120 miles of range back in the battery. Best turning radius of any car I've ever owned. The only disappointment is the infotainment system, but that has more to do with my preference for knobs and buttons. Otherwise, this is a great car. UPDATE: I've owned a '22 VW ID.4 Pro for 2 1/2 years and put 34K into it. This car has been 100% reliable. It is the smoothest, quietest car I've ever driven. The seats are comfortable, and the interior is spacious. Edmunds says you hear some road noise. I don't know what they're talking about, maybe its the tires they had on their test car, there's none at all in my ID.4. Additionally, there hasn't been a single squeek, or rattle. The ID.4 is listed as a "small SUV," but it feels large. There's plenty of legroom, shoulder room, and headroom in front and in back. Visibility from all sides is excellent. Power from the motor is smooth and instantaneous. Like Goldilocks, I find the ride is not too firm and not too soft. Handling is great for an SUV; the battery located beneath the floor makes for a low center of gravity. The car has two driving modes, D and B. B provides for one-pedal driving, and you rarely need to apply the brakes. One pedal driving, despite what some say, feels completely natural. I've been getting 250 miles and more of range, it depends mostly on temperature. The sweet spot is between 55 and 80 degrees. Range anxiety, can be a drawback, if you take lots of long trips. Then generally, you have to stop at least once at an Eletrify America station. You can usually expect to have to wait for someone else to finish charging. Once you're on though, the car will charge fairly quickly, from 20% battery to 80% in a half hour and about 200 more miles of range. The biggest negative is the infotainment system, but that's a problem with many cars these days. Auto makers are slowly learning most people want knobs and buttons back on the dash for AC and the radio. But contrast that with the fact that the car doesn't need any maintenance. The warranty requires you to take the car in once a year, where they usually have a software update. Other than that, there are no oil changes, no air filter, no belts, no hoses, no timing chain, no transmission oil or filter to service. With the one-pedal driving and regenerative braking, brakes will last for a hundred thousand miles. Overall this is one of the best cars I've ever owned. The only car I would replace it with if I could is the 1967 Mustang convertible I had back in high school in the 70s.

I was so excited to get the VW Id.4 First Edition!! Unfortuantely this has been a nightmare of a car for me. Since May my car has been in the dealership for 2-4 weeks per visit on three separate occasions for "observations". The problem is that my car periodically stops working and then works again for a while. Problems I have encountered are: the driver's seat totally reclines while driving, the back up screen appears when travelling 45 miles an hour, the entire screen turns itself off, the air conditioning shuts off while driving (a problem in Florida), the windows magically open themselves while I am away from the car and the car sometimes will simply not turn off. The dealership claims they can not find a problem, which is probably correct since the problems do not happen with any consistency. However the problems are real and the VW dealership has not been successful in diagnosing my car's issues. Further I have been in contact with VW Corporate and they continually repeat the mantra that since the dealership has found nothing wrong; the car is good. When I suggest that they take the car back and resell it since their dealership vouches for the reliability of the car, the conversation is quickly changed and they are not willing to take the car back. Very disappointing, I was very excited to get this car and my personal experience has been disappointing, a complete waste of time and a personal commitment never to buy another VW product again. A personal huge waste of time, effort and money!!

Superbly designed well balanced EV at a good price. Loving the white steering wheel, roomy interior, good acceleration (yes not as good as TESLA), comfortable seats. However would like to have Home-Link as a OEM option and not a add on. Overall great SUV that meets all my expectations for performance and comfort. The additional 7500 federal tax rebate is a plus.

There's too much hate in the 1-star reviews and too much praise on the 5-stars. I have been driving this ID.4 Pro from Las Vegas to San Francisco and back, on a regular basis. Yes, it does have some cheap plastics, and the software is quirky, but just like a Tesla, which my wife had before it hit a flashing roadway sign, I would say that the technology is not there yet. You really have to be involved in learning your car if you want to enjoy it. It is, by far, a very quiet and comfortable ride than most EVs and feels more stable that a lot of SUVs in its size category. Range can suffer if you're a lead foot going uphill against the wind, but will do well in city streets and flat to moderate rolling hills. If you're the guy that says you only get 100 miles per charge, you have a very serious issue with your driving, otherwise, you got the lemon ID.4. Range with any car, gas or electric, can depend on so many conditions. This car can do at least 200 miles on a full charge. With gas prices looming towards $5/gal in most places, the free complementary charging for 3 years is a no-brainer. EV charging takes planning so if you don't have the patience to charge, go back to a gas car. Acceleration is better than most gas cars but is just not as exhilarating as a Tesla or higher end EVs. It still gives that "punch" at a stand-still because of the instant torque. Safety features are standard and drivers must not be fully dependent on. The one behind the wheel is still the main operator: remember how you took that driving test. Overall, I think this is a good car. It is not perfect but it has most of the features and capabilities of what an EV can do, plus it does not break the bank. I would give it 4-stars just because it has room to improve.

I’ve owned plenty of EVs from the original Chevy Bolt EV to my Model 3 Performance, and this VW is by far the most rounded option of the bunch! It’s German build quality through and through, and it’s so refined at higher speeds. When DC fast charging, it sustains 100kw+ all the way past 70% soc and is a perfect road trip machine with its reliable fast charging. I think it’s a great fit for most people, and is endlessly practical with room for four adults and weekends worth of stuff. I’ve had a hard time finding faults, but I’d say the audio system is about average, perhaps a Fender upgrade like the other VWs get would be a nice-to-have but now I’m just nitpicking. I bought this to replace my Subaru Outback, and I couldn’t be happier!

As a long-time EV fan I was looking to upgrade from our Honda Clarity PHEV to an all-EV, test driving the ID.4 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. While the Mach-E was all it was promoted as being, so was the ID.4, but without the $5,000 dealer markup the Ford dealerships were putting on the Mach-E. And, in several ways, the ID.4 is the better vehicle for us, as we're at an age where a more comfortable ride with solid handling characteristics is more important than zero-to-60 time trials. Plus, the ID.4, remains eligible for qualified buyers to incorporate the $7,500 Federal tax credit, making it thousands less than the luxury EVs in its class (compact crossover SUV) like the Tesla Models Y, the Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Volvo Recharge. True, it lacks their so-called luxury trimmings, but except for the non-sports car acceleration (7 seconds to 60 MPH is plenty safe) it equals or is superior to most of them in terms of comfort, ride and handling. Plus more cargo space, plus the 4-year 50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, plus the 3 years of unlimited charging at the Electrify America charging network. Note that initially the Electrify America network had some major issues and glitches with the phone app and connecting to the ID.4, but in the past 16 months it has gotten much better. Still not perfect, but much better, and the issues are with Electrify America, not the ID.4. Better range than any of the competition except the Teslas and the new Hyundai and Kia models, and in about 30/70 highway/city driving (in average 80+ degree heat with the a/c usually operating) two- and one-half years in we're averaging 3.8 miles per kilowatt, well above the original estimated 2.9 mile/kWh - now an estimated 275-mile range. And with the tax credit it's very price competitive with smaller and less well-equipped EVs such as the Chevy Bolt and Bolt EUV, Leaf Plus, Kia Niro, and Hyundai Kona, none of which offer an AWD option or have tow-ratings. Seems like the ID.4 has found the sweet spot for an EV with more than adequate range for most drivers whether for daily around-town commutes or taking extended family vacations to most parts of the country. Just note that for extended travel to some parts of the country do your homework for availability of charging stations or networks. Its features and performance match or exceeds most its rivals, with competitive pricing and the best warranty aside from Hyundai and Kia. After the test drive my wife said it was the best car she had ever driven, and I wasn't going to disagree with her. After a couple of weeks of driving it still feel that way, and we're anticipating that will be the case for a long time to come. VW has also done some free software upgrades that make our ID.4 even better with improved driving screen displays and driver and front passenger seats that slide back when exiting the vehicle and then slide forward to the last seating position when entering and powering up the vehicle for easier entry and exiting. And the massage features on both front seats is very nice, something rarely found outside of so-called luxury vehicles, and not on all of those. And, before you ask, no, it's not quite perfect. Many critics have justifiably harped on the infotainment system. Some of the controls are less-than-intuitive, making it dangerous for the driver to try and use while driving as you have to avert your eyes from the road. Using the voice-commands is the best solution for those moments, but it's definitely something VW needs to address in future models. After 27 months of owning and driving our ID.4 we are just as happy with it as the day we bought it. Completely reliable thus far, plus has been given Top Safety+ ratings by the IIHS. And we are averaging 3.8 miles per kilowatt hour or around 275 miles of range. May not be the perfect vehicle for everyone, but for our driving habits and life it does everything we ask it to do and more. Plus the bonus perks of never having to pay for a single drop of gasoline ever again, at least not with a vehicle we own.

We turned in our Tigaun end of lease and leased the ID.4 Pro S, white with the grey interior. The white color with the black trim accents looks great.. Just superior in almost every respect to the Tigaun and the Tigaun was a fantastic vehicle. Took it out this weekend for a road trip through the Sierra foothills, mix of highway, small town, and winding country roads. Used 27% battery in over 2 hours of driving, 3.3 miles per kw so very good efficiency. Extremely smooth on the road is the best way to describe it. Comfortable, quiet, fast, and handles well. Just really happy with the purchase. Update: 09/03 Dropping a line after owning the car longer. I still stick with my earlier impressions, the car is just awesome. It really is a sum of many parts all adding up to make it an enjoyable car to own. I have now taken it on a couple road trips of over 350 miles and driven through more conditions. The car just performed extremely well in all scenarios. I saw one review complaining about interior material quality and that can't be further from the truth. I really think VW over built this car to ensure it was successful in a new market and it just feels solid throughout. After a lot of driving my kw per mile average stands at 3 which is not bad at all. That is mixed town, highway, hills driving. I have never had range anxiety or worried about range once. Oh another thing. I see reviews complaining it doesn't accelerate like a Tesla. No it doesn't but it is very fast and just a blast to drive. It is kind of like riding a motorcycle, that instant power and ability to quickly zip into traffic is awesome. I have never thought, wow I wish I had more power. It also corners extremely well. I really pushed it around a freeway on ramp and I gave up before it did. Just glued to the road. It also just looks awesome, especially at night. It is a rolling light show and I have had people stop me to ask questions about the car. I am looking forward to the first major software update which will address some nit picky stuff with the software. So bottom line it has been fantastic at least for me in my experience with the vehicle.

Leased the ID4 because I wanted to be sure I liked the electric car before purchasing one. I must say I do love the look and the ride. But other then that I had the car for about 8 months and it just stopped working… they towed the car to a VW dealer near me, but after a week the figured out nobody new how to fix it nobody there had experience (omg) so the towed it to another dealer in Ft myers Fl. Where I bought it, it took them 2 weeks to find somebody to work on it. Now it’s 3 weeks no car. Then I call and they tell me they think they found the problem lol it’s going to be at least another 2 to 3 weeks (wait what).. so no car for 2 months. Ok so who is paying my car loan for the 2 months I don’t have the car ?? Not there problem 😂 wtf it’s a lease I’m leasing a car from you and it breaks because nobody has any clue about these cars and I have to pay for it to sit in your shop…. Oh the will give me a car to use. But not an electric one. Oh ok so now I pay my monthly loan plus now gas on the car your giving me so I will be paying $558 for my ID4 as it sits in you shop and gas on the lender you want to give me ( hummm) 🤔 so I will pay about $700 a month for a car I don’t have and gas in a rentable good customer service. I called corporate and the did nothing but tell me basically it’s not there problem RUDE AS ANYTHING. Like the CEO of the company Scott I loved the VW since I was a kid and this is my 2 VW but after the experience with this company I will never purchase a VW again and I was really looking forward to the VW bus. Not happening can’t wait till this lease is up. Rant over. Good luck to whomever get an electric car from VW or has to deal with corporate

Several weeks ago, I was looking at replacing our old 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan with a hybrid for commuting and errands and such. After finding that there is a huge problem nowadays with catalytic converter theft against hybrids, I instead started looking at EVs. I found the VW ID.4 (hadn't heard of it before), and watched a bunch of videos. I liked what I saw. So I took notes on features, price, tax rebate, etc and comparing it against Tesla, Ford, etc this was by far the best bang for the buck. Not only in regard to range, but cost for that range. Also, the included base features (eg heated seats & wheel) come at an extra cost for some other manufacturers. I luckily found a Glacier White Pro ID4 at a local dealer, and started the purchase process immediately. I'm extremely happy with this car so far (about 2 weeks of owning now). It's perfect for us as a family as we PILE ON the miles driving around with the 5 of us (4 drivers). This thing is incredibly cheap to "fill" compared to the van we traded in that got under 18mpg. The drive is smooth, very quiet, nimble and powerful. There is a ton of room in this thing somehow. Comparing it against our Nissan Rogue, the leg room and space in the rear seating area is much better. The vehicle has a very solid feel, while feeling very light at the same time. I highly recommend watching some videos, and heading to a dealer to take a look in person. You won't regret it! **Update June 2022** We’ve had this vehicle for a year now, and crossed 18,000 miles. It still drives exactly as it did on day one. We have not had a single issue with it at all. I brought it into VW for the complimentary 10k checkup, and also put on winter tires (we live in Minnesota). So I guess I’ll bring it in twice a year to swap tires in November and late March. I’ll have them give it a look just in case, but do t expect any repairs any time soon. With gas prices the way they are, we’re saving so much money, it almost feels criminal. We use the ID4 for as much of our driving needs as possible. Little runs to the grocery store, running kids to practices, etc. With our off peak rate of $.048/KWh, it’s about $35-40 a month to run this thing, and it feels amazing.

I am disappointed with this vehicle. The infotainment has turned off by itself three times, the audio sometimes glitches and won't increase or decrease, when I'm turning on the vehicle- putting it in D- it will turn off. A huge saftey concern: the vehicle has flashed red and beeped( crash sensor ) when I was slowly strolling without any trigger! My car play will disconnect often, and then it will sound like I have a scratched CD. Seriously? The infotainment is often unresponsive and it has also reported something is wrong with the car. The child safety has gotten stuck on the door and the notification has come up on the drivers screen. I can't get out as a passenger, 35% of the time, because the child safety stays on without being selected'. Update: 10/28/2022 After a year of dealing with malfunctions and shop repairs to no avail, I am returning this vehicle as a 🍋 Lemon. Saftey concerns are worse, including not displaying the speed, charge amount, and signs (which I can read myself but as an added feature sold I would expect it to work). It continues to take multiple attempts to turn on and at times doesn't turn on (does not shift into drive or reverse, only neutral). Important to add, my vehicle was one of the 350+ vehicles with a battery recall due to "improper soldering" which can delay, or stop the vehicle and cause an accident ( NHTSA recall number 22V162). Though they claim they will "replace the batteries", as I spoke to a VW regional manager he stated to me that they do not have a "fix" yet and will let those effected when they do so they could be brought in for repair. I have no confidence this will occur in a timely manner given the extent of the issues I already delt with and the gross negligence encountered throught the repairs (including falsification of documentation - maintaining repair orders open, reported declining services and repaires which I was never informed of, and the kicker: not putting screws back in the saftey plate which keep the batteries safe from the road). The vehicle is designed in such a way where the AC condensation accumulates to an extent where at one point you would think the "water broke". Given that the batteries are cooled by water pumping through, this scared the heck out of me and I got the vehicle towed to reduce any likelihood of overheating the batteries. I've had so many issues with this vehicle, I do not feel safe seeing liquid break through and trailing behind me. One year of attempting to fix the child safety lock only brought more issues, such as leaving the vehicle in the shop for 36 days. Half of which the dealership refused to loan me a vehicle. I incurred over $800 of Lyft, Uber, and Amtrak costs (since I live an hour away to the nearest VW).

Well after only 2 years I sold the vehicle back to VW in April of 2023. NEVER got one software update and I could no longer put up with the glitches of this car. Additionally the sheer number of EV’s in California and the crowding of EV adopters and limited CCS chargers had made this unbearable. It’s a reasonable SUV but VW has abandoned its customer base in the US and I will probably never buy another VW product in the future.

Well known by now the lag of the touch screen, deficient Phone app with delayed connection. VolksWagen so far has been full of empty promises regarding vehicle software updates, a phone app with nothing to offer and no where to complain. The car itself is Loaded with features, Drive is nice and quiet but a bit bumpy on rough roads. The quality of the car and its gadgets? Well only time will tell. The ID.4 does occasionally display onscreen system errors that go away once the car is turned off for a while and so far has not hampered the drive-ability, nor has VW address them yet. Phone support is non existent, parts unavailable and dealers aren't much help yet. In other words the nice car experience can be destroyed even if minor service is required or parts needed. But this EV-ID is tempting to acquire and issues easy to overlook, so know before you go.

First hand experience driving an id4.pro 70% on highways and interstate, the max range is about 200 miles. UPDATE: After driving it for a year, here is my quick review... Pros: Good acceleration. Smooth drive. Quiet. Comfortable. Reliable (no major issues). Cons: Range is drastically reduced when temps go below 30, especially when driving at interstate speeds (110 miles instead of 210). Doesn't handle slushy and icy roads well; slides very easily. Occasional weird electronic glitches likes back-up beep not turning off, AC not working until I turn car off and back on, hard braking when it senses something that really wasn't a threat, Apple Car Play that works about 70% of the time. I would definitely get this car if the bulk of your traveling is less than 50 miles per day, but it is not really something to take on a road trip; you would be stopping a lot to recharge, especially if it's cold out.

In April 2021 my husband and I test-drove five electric cars. He opted for a Tesla Model 3, I liked the feel of the ID.4 since it had real buttons and seemed more like a "normal" car. We ordered both cars the same day. He got his Tesla two months later and when my old car started breaking down I drove the Tesla quite a bit and got used to that. My ID.4 (AWD Pro-S) arrive exactly 1 year after I ordered it. It's a beautiful car (I got the red) and I get many comments about it. It seems very well-built both outside and inside. Unfortunately, I hate driving it. Here are some of the reasons why: 1) The software is super buggy and really slow to respond. It seems like it is based on CPU technology from a couple decades ago. If I tap something, there is a lag of a second or two, and I'm never sure if my tap was registered. 2) I cannot listen to audio via AirPlay from my iPhone. It works for a while, but then starts cutting out or stops altogether. I brought it to VW service and they said that it overwhelms the infotainment system, so their solution was to disable the onscreen map. What?? It's 2022, folks! That didn't fix it, so now I not only cannot listen to my podcasts, but I don't have the map, either. 3) The voice command feature is worthless. It's almost hilarious how poor the voice recognition is. Even simple things 3-word requests aren't recognized. The Tesla is super smart and can understand long commands, and I've never had problems with that. I got used to that, so the VW is extremely irritating. I've given up trying to speak to it. 4) Driving is laggy. I hate to keep comparing to the Tesla, but if I press on the accelerator, the Tesla responds immediately, zero lag. With the VW there's maybe a half-second delay. It's sort of like driving an old GM, so people transitioning to a VW from a gas-powered car might not recognize the difference. But I do. Again, there is just no excuse for that. 5) There is no one-pedal driving. Believe me, once you get used to one-pedal driving, you'll never want to go back. With the Tesla, regenerative braking is strong and taking the feet off both pedals brings the car to a complete stop. It's such a natural way to drive. Although the ID.4 does have regenerative braking, it is comparatively weak and requires frequent use of the brakes (with associated brake pad wear). Most irritatingly, taking the feet off both pedals causes the car to creep forward. THERE IS NO REASON AN ELECTRIC CAR SHOULD CREEP! (Sorry, frustration.) It is programmed that way to make it "feel" like a gas-powered car, and there is no setting to turn it off. (I understand that the 2022 models do allow it to be turned off, so that is...progress?) About a month after we got the ID.4 my husband rear-ended a car at a stop sign (slow speed, thankfully) because he was used to electric cars coming to a complete stop. I've come close myself. It's as if VW doesn't want to acknowledge that an electric car should be a different—and superior—driving experience and has programmed it to be "dumb" like a gas-powered car. 6) You cannot put a bike rack on the back. That is not entirely true, but here's the issue: My ID.4 came with a trailer hitch receiver and I have a fold-up bike rack installed on that. When folded up (or down, with bikes) the rack obscures a bit of the back-up camera, which interprets it as something I'm about to run into. So, every time I put the car in reverse there is a loud warning sound, and if I am going in reverse at more than about 2 miles an hour the car slams on the brakes, scaring the bejeezus out of me and anyone else in the car. There is no way to turn it off. Actually, the VW guy said that if I get a particular doodad and plug it in to the trailer hitch socket it will stop it. I tried and it didn't work at all. Thankfully that doodad cost only about $10. 7) Road trip charging is a chore. The ID.4 came with free charging on the Electrify America network (3 years, I think). Yay! Unfortunately, the car cannot tell you where the chargers are. So, I have to download an app to do that, and then estimate myself whether I have the range to make it to the next charger. Tesla is light years ahead here. It would seem that many of the software issues could be resolved with updates. However, as of this writing (Sept 2022) no updates have been rolled out in the U.S. None. Ever. Apparently, updates are available elsewhere in the world, but for some reason they are not available in the U.S. So, I'm still stuck with the same buggy, irritating, laggy, frustrating car. Would I recommend the ID.4? Frankly, no. Not when there are more solid alternatives out there. I do hope that new versions of the ID.4 include modern, fast computer chips and that all the software bugs and driving hiccups are fixed. I also hope that VW embraces the new EV paradigm and stops trying to make EVs feel like legacy gas-powered cars.

I had a Leaf when it first came out. The evolution from 4years ago driving my leaf vs my new ID4 is a leap bound. It’s so nice to drive. The range and the ElectrifyAmerica infrastructure across the US is game changing. The whole world is ready to save earth and going the right direction. Great Job VW!

Roomy Quiet and comfortable. Good power and smooth driving. Tight turning radius helps in city driving. Looks like normal nice SUV but the spaceship sound at low speed lets people know it's electric. Very convenient charging at home to 80% on most nights and using the free electrify america fast chargers for an extra 30-50% occasionally. Now with 112,000 miles still love this car. No problems, software update improved the infotainment screen function. Battery has not degraded much. When new 80% range showed about 225 miles now it shows about 215 miles. The electrify america charging stations are more crowded now and waiting 5 to 20 minutes is common.

I’ve owned a dozen sedans, mostly Camry, Malibu, Impala etc. This might be the best of the lot. Very enjoyable, very comfortable. I like the adaptive cruise control far more than I thought I would and love the quietness. It’s a great road car. I looked at the model 3 and Y and could not justify the added price. As far as I can tell Tesla over sells their range estimates and VW undersells. I live is Ohio and we have an Electrify America station in every major city. In my opinion only buy the Tesla is you really want the brand or the speed. When the sedan version comes out, I’ll probably buy that too. My wife will take this one as she loves it.

I was so excited to get this car for about a week and then the glitchy technical issues began and evolved into a significant safety issue by the car losing the ability to accelerate on the highway on 4 separate occasions. The problem was a faulty ECM chip which the dealer could not get and sat for six weeks before they ended up refunding my money. The car would be amazing in all honestly if it worked and oh yeah didn't almost kill me....

Our family was committed to getting an EV that was affordable and had enough room to haul our musical instruments and kid toys. We did our homework and after a test drive leased the ID.4. We've been driving it, including a trip from San Diego to Palm Springs, for three weeks and have gone from like to love. Lots of room, fun to drive, free charging network for three years, and plenty of bells and whistles make it the right choice for our family. Some folks don't like the control panel and interface but we haven't experienced it as clunky. My only wish is for an easier charing interface with the Electrify America network. It is not exactly a Tesla plug and play. I think it will get better over time, but currently is a bit clunky.

Pros: Roomy interior Great look inside and out Fun to drive, plenty of pick up and speed Great turn radius and good maneuvers. AC is immediate and cools you down Plenty of distance for battery Very similar in outside looks to e-torn and much cheaper Very fun to drive Smooth ride Moon roof is amazing size and view Back seats have plenty of space Headlights and rear lights are very stylish I would recommend getting the Pro S if you get one as the upgrades are worth it. Cons: Front window allows too much sun in at a bad angle that caused glare off screens and heat on driver. In direct sun the car heats up too much even with the moon roof shaded. I would get a front window shade if you live in a sunny area. Voice activation is worthless, but not needed Wish it had an upgrade for better speakers

We bought this car a week ago, and it's wonderful! More comfortable and better looking than a Tesla, Honda CRV, or Rav 4. It has great standard features and just feels more modern than any other EV out there as of right now. Very happy with our purchase!

This car is a dream. The range has been as advertised—at 80% charge, I’m at 240 miles every day when I wake up. And, when I precondition the car, right now it’s also ready to drive to work with the AC already on! The R and D drive modes are fun to work with, and I have no range anxiety. I only use the L1 charger as of now, and I recoup all miles overnight. I have a 25 mile round-trip commute to work, and then any other reason I tote around in the evening with my kids. The turning radius is the best of any car I’ve owned. The features are exquisite. Love the panoramic sunroof! There is a learning curve to grow into any EV, and the ID.4 takes a little patience. But, it is worth it! Hope you enjoy yours!

VW attempt at an electric car is just that - an attempt. Electronics are fair. Delayed charging is poor - does not charge with consistency. The app is basic and rudimentary. Paid version of car.net does not add much to the app. Hyundai and similar cars have better features. Tax credit is the one plus feature. VW recommendation is 80% charge and not to go to 100%. Thus the range is much less and usage is significantly high.

I've had my ID4 for two months and have not driven an EV before. The car has so many preference options, I am learning slowly. My only issue was a faulty trunk liftgate which occurred before the dealer sold it to me. When they ordered the new part, the dealer fixed it and it's been fine. I've had one warning of a faulty electrical system, but it went off after I exited the car and got back in. The car did not shut down and I made it home safely. I use the charge cord that came with the car. I didn't know that Electrify America is only for DC fast-charging, which is not recommended as the sole power source. That's a little disappointing. However, I find it very convenient to plug into my outdoor outlet and charge on my driveway. I wish the charge port was in the front, not the back. Overall, I am very happy and love the car. It's got good pickup and I am getting accurate range, i,e., if I drive 30 miles away per Google Maps, my range is reduced by 30 miles. I'm sure a Tesla is more fun to drive but I needed the federal income tax credit and sorry but Tesla's Y is not as good looking, The one-star review about the faulty coolant pump has been a common problem reported on the ID.4 chat board. Nothing's perfect, I guess. I read that the voice commands should be turned off as it helps the response time of the infotainment system. It also helps to let everything boot up before throwing it into Drive and taking off. Remember, you're driving a software-driven machine, not a conventional gas-powered piston-pumping engine. I agree that VW probably could have done a few things better but get the sense that the gripers would be griping about something else either way.

I like this car. It drives really nicely, it feels solid, it looks great, it's comfortable, it has good acceleration, and I get free charging at Electrify America. Plus it has massaging in the front seats. Unfortunately it also has shortcomings, some of which are needless blunders and some of which are super annoying and some of which are both. - There's no one-touch physical button for the heating and cooling fan speed. You have to tap the physical climate button and then adjust the fan speed on the infotainment screen. Very inconvenient and annoying! - The audio volume and temperature control physical buttons don't illuminate at night! Think about it: VW illuminated the VW emblem on the front of the car but didn't illuminate important controls. This is a really unbelievably dumb shortcoming (did VW hire high school interns for this part of the engineering work?) and really inconvenient when you can't see them! VW, how long have you been making cars? This blunder is a serious head-scratcher and I hope VW offers owners free retrofitting to fix this giant flaw. - The vehicle rolls backward when I release the brake if I'm stopped at a red light or stop sign at an incline! Sometimes I don't even realize it's rolling because it can happen if you are not pushing down hard enough on the brake. This is a risky or even dangerous shortcoming that should not exist and I hope VW can fix it via firmware update. In the meantime, I'll be sure to send them the bill if I roll into a car behind me. - There are certain positions the sun visor does not like to stay in. It's annoying because you put it in a certain position and it moves away from that position. Again, this is something that I should not be experiencing in a vehicle from an established, long-time car manufacturer. - Some controls on the steering wheel are too close to the grip areas and are easy to activate by mistake when turning the wheel. This is another mistake that an experienced car manufacturer should never be making. - I still haven't figured out how to turn off the super annoying voice announcements about traffic conditions. It's driving me crazy. - My car's infotainment screen has crashed numerous times and needs to be rebooted to get it to work again. Hopefully VW is working on a firmware update that might fix this problem. I'm waiting.... - Putting the gear lever above and behind the windshield wiper lever is a bit odd because, at least where I live in a dry sunny climate, I use the gear lever much more than the windshield wipers and it would be better if it were the one within easier, quicker reach. I've even accidentally activated the windshield wipers several times by accidentally bumping that lever. - Wireless charging of my iPhone X makes my phone so hot that some functions actually stop working. But maybe this is not a VW flaw and is instead just the nature of the beast. I stopped using it after just a few times. Sounds like a great idea but the reality isn't so great. - I like that the car has wireless Apple Car Play, but there seems to possibly be some conflict between that system and the VW Car-Net system that I haven't been able to totally figure out. Specifically, I had some problems using my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot for my laptop when I was using wireless Apple Car Play, although now maybe it's working, I'm not sure. - In sunny Southern California, a glass moonroof is a great way to feel way too hot in your car. I would like to see that feature be an option rather than a standard feature. I had to use the most expensive tinting available to try to ameliorate that issue. - Sometimes when I try to open the back hatch by grabbing the handle to open it, it doesn't unlock and open. Other times it does. It seems to be finicky and I haven't been able to figure out why. - Opening the passenger door with my remote control is also sometimes perplexing. One click? Two clicks? Two fast clicks? Two slow clicks? I still haven't been able to figure it out. - I wish the blind spot warning light had an option for an audible warning too, and I wish the color of the light were different from the color of the blinker on the side view mirror so that it clearly looks different. - The backup camera is a huge disappointment. I'm seriously dumbfounded why VW is using such a bad backup camera. It's not very sharp, and the field of view is narrow. My 2018 Honda Odyssey had a much clearer and wider view. And compared to Tesla it's not even a close contest. It's really frustrating because you have to be extra careful checking the sides with this camera, plus just simple backing up is not a relaxing experience because the camera image quality is so poor. VW certainly should be able to do much better than what they have right now. VW, give me a better camera worthy of being in an ID.4! - There should be separate controls for the front and rear windows. Having to push a button to toggle between front and back with one set of buttons is not easy to get used to. Very awkward feature that should be nixed in future iterations of this car. This is a great car, but it could be even better, and with all of VW's experience, they really should know better than to introduce a car with such amateur shortcomings. However, I do love the car, and the positives easily outweigh the negatives UPDATE: I decided to get rid of this car because the shortcomings I mentioned in my review just became too much of a constant nuisance and disappointment. VW needs to improve this car's software, ergonomics, and system reliability before they can compete with the best EV vehicles.

The all Electric ID4 has been a joy to own and operate. Added a home 220v fast charger to make charging realistic, as the 120v charger that comes with the car is almost worthless giving about 3 miles of charge per hour. Included free 3 years of Electrify America charging is really nice. Not all features are intuitive and learning all the controls is taking a long time, discovering new little features almost every time we drive!

An EV that doesn't require putting up with strange funky BS or sacrificing capability. There is plenty of space but it still manages to handle corners like a German car should yet also somehow manages to be comfortable over bumps. It tows great and just because it's electric doesn't mean you need to forgoe a roof rack. One installs on the roof quick and easily.

I bought a 2022 VW ID.4 All Wheel Drive Pro S with Gradient from Herzog Meier about 2 months ago. This is simply the best car I've ever owned. I was a Subaru owner for decades, but when they failed to take care of me after purchasing an Outback that was a lemon, I switched to a VW and got an AWD Gulf Alltrack. I LOVED that car. I thought I'd keep it forever. But I really wanted to switch to an EV and the timing was right. The ID.4 is SOOOO fun to drive, has tons of room, and handles beautifully. The software problems from the 2021 generation have been solved--NO issues at all on this car (except VW's app is kind of worthless, but that's ok!) I drive it everywhere (it's my only car) and have had no issues. I guess my only complaint is that I never want anyone else to drive b/c I LOVE LOVE LOVE driving this car! If you heard anything about software issues, that's old news--only 2021s are impacted and those eventually will be fixed. My 2022 came with the updated software and it works great! I can't say enough good things about it!

After about 1000 miles we are very happy with the ID4. Very quick and quiet. Road manners are excellent and the sound system is great too. The Infotainment system is much better with V3.1. Love this car!

We bought the 2021 ID.4 Pro S RWD and have put 40k miles on it. Zero maintenance cost except for two flat tires. It's surprisingly quiet, rides smoothly, and had decent (but not shocking) acceleration. The turning circle is very tight, better than some subcompacts! My wife was sold on the seats, with adjustable lumbar support and even a massage feature. Reviewers complain about the software, but this hasn't been a big issue for me. It's true the VW navigation is weak and the VW voice recognition doesn't work too well, but we use Android Auto & Google Maps so it doesn't matter. Also the travel assist is very relaxing, with Lane centering and adaptive cruise control. Overall, we love it!

I have one of this as a company car in Sweden. It is the most awful car experience in my life. It is not the "electrified" part of it that's the problem, but the user experience. The user interface is seriously flawed and it is just mind boggling how VW, one of the worlds biggest car makers, could launch something so expensive and still so horribly bad! The infotainment system totally lacks structure, it is a nightmare to use. On first power up I could not connect Bluetooth, it was just impossible. On second try, it worked but volume control freezed. On third try it actually worked, but then it sometimes cuts of volume for no reason. The inner lighting is a joke, the motion sensor on/off is just totally senile and I gave up on using them, which is a problem in the dark Scandinavian winter. The maneuvring of windows and mirrors is insane, why VW, why? But the worst and most dangerous is the Lane Assist system that tries keep you "on course", steering pulls and vibrates sometimes like it tries to force you to stay when you change a lane. But the worst experience of all was when the Lane Assist system tried to ram a car I was just overtaking on a 70 km/h road! If I had not reacted it would have steered me into the side of the overtaken car! Like if these suicidal tendencies wasn't enough, range is much lower than indicated, I get about 60% range from what it indicates. If this is the future of cars, I am seriously worried. The ID 4 is so bad that I lack words. I am in shock! Today I told the company I work for "screw this, I ain't driving this freak car no more". I call it "the freak" or "the soybox".

Have owned my ID.4 AWB Pro S for two years and I am really enjoying the car. Driving this car is a whole new experience from the 2006 Honda minivan I had been driving previously. Love the advanced cruise control that adjusts speed dynamically and the car has the ability to automatically stay in its lane when setup to do so. I am very impressed with all the safety features that are built into the car. This car has a 1.25" tow hitch receiver. Not sure I would use it for towing, but it is ideal for attaching a bike rack for weekend excursions. Took off one star due to the current limited availability of charging stations when traveling out of town. My car came with free charging for three years at Electrify America locations. So far, finding a charging station in Southern California has been very easy, but the coverage of these stations in rural areas needs to improve. Cost of charging my car at home is around $13.00, free at the Electrify America for the next year, and charging it at an EVgo Fast Charger costs around $26.00. The cost of ownership, including car payment is far less than what it was costing me in the van for gas and repairs.

Having owned several EV's and EV Hybrids, I would say the ID 4 is a basic EV. The worst part of the vehicle is the software. The touch screen is often glitchy and somewhat delayed. The app (MyVW) is complete garbage. Constantly logs out and it's functionality is terrible. The other issue is the range which is 10-15% lower than estimated. The positives are the extra space of a SUV and acceleration is acceptable. I purchased in Aug 2022 after a 1 year wait and would likely not purchase another after my initial experience.

Goods: It rides almost well and comfortable. Back seat is roomy. It is quite in low speed (I tell you why in low speed later). The exterior looks good and not ugly as many EVs out there. The tech is good and it has many different things to make the driving easy. Visibility is good. It has a very good air condition. Bads: I hate the interior piano black used in this car. Infotainment is not smooth as other competitors. Volume and temperature controller touch area is not illuminated so it can't be visible at night. Your finger print remains all over the place on Infotainment. It gives a lot of wind noise above 60 mile per hour (that is why I said it is just quite in low speed). The pedestrian sound under 20 mile per hour is louder than it's needed and it is above US standards. It has some design and assembling issue in some places the was you think how this is possible in this level. The doors and hood is heavy.

I absolutely love my ID.4! The range, space and comfort are top notch. I really enjoy the massaging seats. The headlights may be my favorite feature (auto dim, cornering, etc.). The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) works great in my experience and I use it all of the time. I average about 90 miles a day, mostly around 60-65 and the range is excellent. I charge overnight to 80% and have an estimated 220 miles available (summer). That drops to about 200 in winter when the heat is on. I love that the car is preheated and charged before I get in every morning in winter! I had one issue with the A/C back in August. It took nearly a month for the dealership to get the part. That said, that happens when you buy one of the first ones. Once it was fixed, it's been great ever since. Other features I like include; Wireless Apple Car Play, interior light customization, rear passenger space, under deck storage in the back, easily configurable cup holders.

Pro S with gradient package. I've owned it for 5 months and already have 7K miles on it. Absolutely love it! If you're coming from a gas SUV (Rav4, CRV, Tucson etc...) you will absolutely love this too. Incredibly smooth linear power combined with a luxurious ride makes this quiet SUV a great daily driver. Free charging for 3 years on Electrify America and a fast charging curve make it a great road tripper! Have already road tripped throughout Florida from Miami to St Augustine. It wasn't available when I purchased but I would spec the next one as Pro S AWD just for the added horsepower. Go test drive one and you'll see what I'm talking about. Update: 11 months & 15K miles. Still an amazing ride! Software update is due this summer which should improve the infotainment.

We bought an ID.4 Pro S in September and have put 4500 miles on it, including a 1100 road trip to Maine. I love the solid feel, the smooth acceleration, the extra quiet ride, comfortable seats with adjustable lumbar support, glass roof, lots of interior space even for someone who is extra tall, and a surprisingly tight turning circle. The adaptive cruise control and lane centering are fantastic for highway driving. It's not perfect. For example it takes a second or two to understand my voice commands, but overall we are very happy with the ID.4!

Dollar for dollar the id4 is probably the best mid-size EV on the market today. Great ride, solid German build and decent mileage compared to other EV's out there. Software is a little glitchy but in the process of being upgraded soon by VW.

Had shopped several traditional mid size SUVS. We were planning on Atlas Cross Sport. Test drove ID.4 and were impressed by comfortable seats, ride, technology etc. Get in and go feature fun too.

My only experience with a ID-4 so far is a brief test drive where the dealer resolved to keep one available for this purpose. In this time I found the car quite comfortable, and enjoyable to drive. I prefer the first drive mode in which when I lift my foot from the accelorator the car will coast freely like putting my stick shift HHR out of gear. Regenerative braking starts with the brake pedal, and is proportional with the pressure applied to the pedal. On the Interstate it was smooth and silent at speed, and acceleration from 60 to 77 (without "flooring it") was more than adequate for any reasonable attempt to pass a truck on a two lane road. My fiance also likes the car, but was not impressed with the plastic in the interior, a item more much important to her than to me. Overall I like the ID-4, I think i would be happy with one. I have narrowed the field for my first all electric car to the VW ID-4, the Chevrolet Bolt, and the Kia Niro. I have yet to test drive the latter two.

Had my 2021 ID4 for approximately 7300 miles. While driving car I had a major engine failure which took out braking, steering, driver assist, hill holding and even the proximity noise electric cars make. VW asked dealer to replace motor. After 5 months VW agreed to buy back the car. VW offered extra cash if I bought another VW but based on my 13 month experience with this car I would not risk my life again. I could go on about the nonsense infotainment system or the inability to see climate control or radio controls in the dark - good luck changing the cabin temperature at night. Also beware of poor line of sight when making left turns. VW ID4 is not ready for the marketplace

I thought about getting a CRV or Rav4 but this makes so much more sense. If you haven't done so yet, go to your auto show or dealership and sit in it. It is so much nicer than the other two. I really liked the roominess of the backseat and smoothness of the motor. I wish the charge port was on the other side and the infotainment was a little easier to learn but the main parts of this car are spot on. I figure this will cost me less to run over the next several years than a smaller hybrid or gas car. Don't forget that it is safe and the weight actually helps to make it safer for the passengers inside.

I love this car, driving it is excellent. However, Volkswagen forgot that we need to charge and it is very hard to find a place to charge it, you will always have to drive around 10 miles to be able to charge it. I'm currently in Orlando (far from home) and there is only one place to charge this car which is at Florida Mall, only 6 stations (3 was broken), charging all kinds of electrical vehicles except Tesla, who has more than 10 stations to charge in the same Florida Mall. So if you are thinking to purchase the ID4, think twice. It is totally unacceptable to be so hard to find a charging station.
