Used 1996 Toyota Paseo Consumer Reviews
sporty and reliable
Just purchased a 1996 Toyota Paseo for my daughter's first car. So far no problems with the engine. The car is easy and fun to drive. Reminds me of a smaller version of the celica. Is anyone having any mechanical problems? Hope it lasts at least through highschool. (145000 miles).
Fun Reliable Car!!
I bought this Paseo in 2000 (4 years old at the time), no kidding, on looks alone, I think I have a slightly different edition, looks different from the 1996 picture. It's 2007 now and still have it, the only think i had to do was replace the timing belts and new brake pads, oil changes etc. Currently 125,000 miles. Handling is nice and it's definitely fun to drive. I pay $28.00 a week at the pump, no kidding.
My opinion
We bought this car as a fresh import from Japan. With extremely low mileage, we figured we couldn't go wrong, with the only mark on the full inspection being that the timing belt would need replacement at 60000 miles. We've driven this car all over and totally love it. With the 1300cc engine it's a bit underpowered, but it's a great city car that's easy to park and fun to drive!
The sayo is sweet
I love this car we've had it for eleven years and I still can't find much wrong with it. My paseo has 197 thousand miles on it and still gets 30 city and 35-40 highway! No after market parts just love and care. Easy to fix and fun to drive a great first car for any teenager and a great way for parents to control the amount of kids in the car. Easy to drive and fun to beat on beacause she just won't die, I'm still trying.
Still runs like new at 112K and counting
I bought this car at 39K miles and now 5 years and at 112K the costliest single expense was the timing belt replacement at 68K (routine). Other than brake pads, regular oil changes, and other regular consumables I have had nothing go wrong on this car. It's always started regardless of the weather or how long it's been sitting (max 15 days with no start up). Handles well up to 85mph - great in snow - handles well on curves - rear seat is a shelf but for a single commuter looking for a somewhat sporty ride this is it. Only negative comment would be for prospective drivers over 6'3" - the top of your head will be pressed on the roof - 35 mpg when gas is $2+/gallon it might be worth it!
