Did I make a mistake?

I shopped around for a couple months with many different dealerships by email due to the fact that I knew if I went to test drive a new car, I'd give up on shopping around and buy the first one I tried. I guess that's why the dealerships keep pestering you to come in and drive. By doing this, I learned a lot about the vehicle and about prices, etc. I decided to buy from the dealership I've been faithful to for 12 years with my old Highlander. Big mistake. They had no loyalty to me and everyone there, from the top to bottom) lied to me. I guess they think all people are dumb and won't figure that out. My advice to dealerships: Be truthful and have happy customers and make more sales or be deceitful and have unhappy customers who will spread the word and possibly make u lose sales. Your choice!

Highlander rates high in my book

Love the car so far! Comfortable for in town and on the highway. We have owned the car for a little over a week and I’ve driven 1,000 miles so far. If you want to tow anything with the Highlander do your homework. We found limitations not fully explained by Toyota or staff. One of the reasons we changed to the AWD model. We love the lane departure feature but we are not completely sold on the stop/go feature adding value. Two ideas or hopes for future models would be a tailgate button on the dash or overhead, currently have to use the remote or hatch door button and option for a digital speedometer on the dash Camary offers it but we haven’t located it so far on the Highlander. My daughter and I reviewed cars separately for purchase and we both selected the Highlander.

Highlander something done right

Over all, superbly built, quiet, very very comfortable captains chairs. Lively v6 if needed, but I didn't buy expecting a sports car but if floored it does accelerate very quickly. The engine is smooth, quiet and normal driving on highways gets excellent mileage. Around 75 mph usually get 26.3 to 26.7 depending on weather and winds. The true surprise is on more leasure rides in country around 50 to 60mph I often get 29.5 to 30 mpg. So I tried some trips at 65-70 mph and get 27-28 mpg. With windows and sunroof closed the quietness is amazing even at highway speed. Sunroof wide open and windows closed is also very quiet even at 75 mph, and has become my standard on nice days. Windows open at over 40 is not pleasant. Stereo is very good with my issue being I wish it had more base, it has decent but zero thump levels. Works great with Bluetooth and instantly connects to my phone for pandora , amazon music, etc. I did get 3 month free trail of Sirius, and honestly I was happy with other services, but Sirius honestly just harassed me to get service and even started calling me daily even when told no, stop calling they continued calling until I filled complaints with BBB. I suggest if you activate free Sirius use fake phone number. The highlander first and second row are very roomy for adults, 3rd row is honestly for under 10 year olds and I folded mine down for more rear cargo and have never had back up. I personally love my highlander, just great overall, comfortable, quiet, great mpg, good everything with only a few drawbacks. My few disappoints are 1)not enough bass for radio, 2)that collision warning system does not engage brakes, 3) no front parking aid, with such a sloped hood it is hard to judge distance when parking, so I often back in with rear camera (which is superb view). 4) the infotainment control/touch screen is hard to use as any sun on it makes it unusable and is not readily reachable, should of tilted towards driver. 5) when I read reviews before getting highlander, I saw common thread of sludge build up issues in engine, the recommended oil change is synthetic every 10k, well at 5k the oil is dark, so I change oil every 5k, and for cost I think it's good for keeping engine cleaner and smoother. But my true complaint is the STUPID canister oil filter, no spin on filter. It is always stupid hard to get open, requires a special socket, requires changing of gaskets and gloves, pick tool. Way way harder and messier than spin oil filter. Navigation is annoying, first state, then city, then street, then address, I'm used to Garmin just street and number and done. Another gripe is the clock is archaic and completely stupid, does not automatically update time and is just out of place in a high tech instrument panel. The blind spot monitoring system malfunction and it puts up warning that takes over center of cluster, cannot dismiss for more than a few seconds, extremely annoying as part took week to get and it just took over my instrument cluster with non stop "check BSM". Wiping out my other info. Really stupid Toyota crap that it cannot be dismissed and forces you to have red box in middle, repaired under warranty but scary that without warranty it's likely a $1,500 to 2,000 repair and you will have to fix or dash cluster is unusable.

I hate this truck should of stayed with honda

I could not afford the model with power seats. You would think for $35000 it would come with them. The seat does not go as high as the power seat does. Why? Short people drive all models. The mirrors are not placed in a spot that allows good visibility. The wipers have too long of a delay. They say it's fine. No Sirius radio. Again $35000. Really? No trunk space when all seats are up. I should of bought the pilot. All the things not included in the highlander for $35000 are included in the pilot. The reason we didn't buy a toyota years ago. We got more for our money with a Honda. And bought 2. I hate hate this truck and I'm stuck for 6 yrs with it. Oh aleta not even get into how a hands free design for your phone needs your eyes n hands as your driving to respond to a txt or even to send one. Where do they find the geniuses that designed the program. It's a shame cause it has potential to be great. Never again Toyota.

Experts and customers agreed, Highlander was the BEST midsized SUV for 2018. It's still great for us in April 2025, even given the rough roads we've been driving in Costa Rica. Still smooth, good performance and very comfortable. Only minor issues, less than what would be expected. April 2021 - We're still loving it. Still smooth, quiet, good performance, very comfortable and issue-free. Couldn't ask for better.
