The Crown Signia is Toyota's all-new midsize SUV that's based on the Crown sedan. Like the Venza it replaced, it's only available as a hybrid and boasts an upscale interior that comes loaded with a long list of features. The Crown Signia is lower and longer than the RAV4 because of its wagon-like proportions, but it provides less cargo space. It's about as long as a Highlander but doesn't offer three rows of seating. The Signia's strengths are its premium interior and efficient hybrid engine. As a result, though, it costs more than most Toyota SUVs and about as much as a comparable Lexus.

How does the Toyota Crown Signia drive? The Crown Signia is only available with hybrid power. At Edmunds' test track, it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. That's OK for a hybrid-powered crossover SUV. In routine driving, the Crown Signia never feels slow, but it's far from zippy. Around corners, the Crown Signia handles securely. It's not sporty, but the Crown Signia never feels sloppy or overly soft. Braking is strong and smooth.

Toyota includes a number of standard driver aids with the Crown Signia, including features like adaptive cruise control. A few more additional features like a surround-view camera system are optional. The available aids work well and are easy to use, with the adaptive cruise maintaining good gaps in traffic. The surround-view camera system helps with visibility thanks to the large display, but the Crown Signia is easy to park and maneuver in tight spaces even without the extra cameras.

How comfortable is the Toyota Crown Signia? The Crown Signia offers a decent amount of passenger space and good overall comfort. The front seats are among the best you'll find in any Toyota today. They are cushy and supportive, and it's easy to quickly find a comfortable seating position. The second row is tighter than in other midsize SUVs, with slightly less headroom and legroom. That said, all but the tallest adults should find enough room in the rear seat. Installing a car seat should be relatively easy, with doors that open reasonably wide and easy-to-access anchors. A large rear-facing car seat might be a little tight, but we don't think it will be an insurmountable fit.

The Crown Signia wasn't as quiet as we expected. It's not loud, but you'll always hear the hybrid system working, and there's more road noise on the freeway than in some other midsize crossover SUVs. On the upside, we like the Crown Signia's easy-to-use controls. Everything from the radio to the climate system is simple to figure out and reach. The climate system works great for keeping the cabin cool on hot days, and rear passengers will appreciate the well-placed rear air vents.

How’s the tech? All Crown Signias come standard with a large 12.3-inch touchscreen packing an easy-to-use infotainment system. The touchscreen is responsive. Inputting a destination in navigation can be done with a digital keyboard or using voice commands. The maps are clear, too. Controls for the radio and other settings are easy to find, and few menus require more than a few taps to access.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard. Both feature wireless connectivity, and there are also USB-C charging ports in both rows. Toyota also offers a wireless charging pad. It's mounted vertically, meaning it takes up very little room in the center console.

How’s storage and cargo? The Crown Signia offers less overall cargo space than other midsize crossover SUVs, such as the Honda Passport. With the rear seats up, the Crown Signia provides up to 25.8 cubic feet of cargo space. That's considerably less than what you get from even a RAV4. The second row does fold down, opening the Crown Sigina's cargo area up to 68.8 cubic feet. The seatbacks even have folding panels to extend the flat load floor. While there's less total space, the actual cargo area is highly usable, with a deep hatch that really only loses out on rivals in terms of total height.

Storage inside the cabin isn't as amazing as in some rivals, but there are plenty of spots for items like your phone, sunglasses and more. The center console is reasonably large, as are the door pockets.

Is the Toyota Crown Signia a good value? The Crown Signia's standard features include full leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and lots of standard tech and driver aids. A loaded Crown Signia can seem a little pricey, but we definitely think you're getting your money's worth. The Crown Signia's build quality is excellent, and the interior feels more premium than the average SUV's. This is the nicest, most premium Toyota product around short of a Lexus.

Toyota includes a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty. The powertrain is covered for five years/60,000 miles, though the hybrid components get even longer coverage. Toyota also includes two years of service visits.

How’s the fuel economy? The Crown Signia's hybrid powertrain makes it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs around. The EPA-estimated combined fuel economy of 38 mpg is right in line with what we saw during testing. In our experience, Toyota's hybrids regularly meet or exceed their EPA estimates. Not all rivals are available with hybrid power, and even those that do don't come close to matching the Crown Signia's fuel efficiency.

Inside and out, this is one of the best-looking Toyotas in a long time. 2025 Toyota Crown Signia Limited 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

Toyota has made a really nice-looking, useful and premium vehicle, if a bit overpriced. We've put 2K miles on ours including two long(ish) trips and are pleased with it. We also test drove a Lexus 350h and were completely underwhelmed. The Crown Signia has the same powertrain as the Lexus and IMO drives exactly the same just a slightly lower body style. Important note: These are … hybrids. If you like a smooth quiet burst of power on the accelerator you're not going to get that with the Crown Signia (or the Lexus RX350h). These powertrains are for fuel mileage. So far we are averaging 33 MPG on the highway and slightly better than that in town. Hopefully that ticks up a bit. Side note: Crown Signia can run on regular unleaded gas, Lexus RX350h requires premium unleaded. These cars have Toyota's eCVT which has been around a long time and is known to be bullet proof. Other manufacturers use weaker CVT transmissions. That said, many people don't like the engine RPMs and noise you get on hard acceleration since the shifting is continuous and not perceptible. Again, this is a hybrid. If you drive hard you'll hear the engine. If you drive like a soccer mom you won't hear it much at all. The suspension gives a respectably smooth ride on our 21 inch wheels (Toyota why so big?), I felt it was on par with the Lexus. Handling is tight but you won't confuse it with a sports car. The interior is generally well done and important controls operate with buttons. We have the black seats and I would say the tan leather seats have a more premium appearance and are the way to go. I do appreciate the ventilated seats but I could use a little more powerful ventilation on the highest setting. The seats are more comfortable than your average Toyota but that's a low bar. The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and lane tracing assist (LTA) means on the highway the car can essentially steer itself--don't worry you're still in charge--and manages the distance between traffic ahead. Not to be confused with self-driving but works quite well on 4 lane highways. 2 lane highways not as much since it seems to want to hang a little too close to the center line for my liking. It has many camera views and the camera rear view mirror gives a nice, clear wide angle. Apple Carplay works wirelessly, haven't tested Android Auto. My wife puts her phone in the wireless charging bay and displays Waze on the large Crown Signia touchscreen no problem. Be prepared, especially with the Advanced Tech package, to invest some time learning the features you paid for. It's a serious collection of technology and features. Now my complaints: First, no spare tire. I understand why, but the real offense by Toyota is not making a space under the cargo deck that can FIT a spare tire should you buy one. Feels like an unforced error by Toyota. Second, while the interior quality is good, and the seats are good, I feel like they could even be a bit better for the money. Third, paddle shifters have no useful purpose and should not exist in this car. Fourth, in Sport mode (Limited trim), the car actually amplifies the engine noise through the speakers. Not kidding. I used an OBDII adapter and software to turn this off. These complaints are rooted in head-scratching decisions by Toyota but I still consider them all as minor. As I said, we are pleased with the car so far. We rate it 4.7 out of 5 stars.
