Stepping into the 21st Century

It’s going to be a bit hard to give an objective review because it is the end of 2023 and this vehicle is a night and day difference from what I have been driving. Let’s put it this way, when the salesman asked what I am currently driving, my answer was, “Let’s put it this way, it has a cassette deck in it.” That response let him know immediately that I would need a bit of education on new vehicles. Needless to say, I like just about everything in my new 4Runner. The primary thing I like about my 4Runner is that it is in its 15th year of production for this 5th generation vehicle, and it has a reputation for longevity like nothing else I have found. Couple that with the fact that it is made in Tahara, Japan by many Takumi (Master Craftsmen that have at least 60,000 hours of experience) This is the same factory that produces Lexus vehicles so essentially, I am getting Lexus quality at a Toyota price. Another positive point is that the 4Runner has a tremendous following, so I have plenty of YouTube videos on every aspect of the vehicle as well as a multitude of vendors selling upgrades and modifications to make these vehicles even better and more customized to each owner. A couple minor points that would make it a solid 10/10. 1. The Android Auto is not wireless. That is easily remedied with a $35 box that I purchased from Amazon.com, but it still plugs into the only USB-A port on the main console. I was however able to install a dual USB port into the cigarette lighter receptacle to give more USB options on the main console. 2. Availability of the entire color lineup among all the 4Runner models. I purchased the Limited version because it was the only model with All-Wheel Drive but it was not offered in a couple of the colors that I would have preferred over the color I purchased.

TRD Off Road

There's nothing to not like about this vehicle other than (maybe for some people) there not being automatic headlights. However, I grew up without auto headlights, so it's really not that big of a deal. The seats are comfortable. The ride is smoothe. I'm not disappointed in the least bit.

I bought the Four Runner because of its proven durability and reputation for being rugged in off road situations. I haven't had the chance to even get it fully broken-in yet, but the fit and finish of the vehicle is excellent and I'm am looking forward to having many off road adventures with this vehicle.

Great SUV, happy to get the last of its kind

There are many car reviewers complaining about the dated styling and technology of the 5th generation 4 Runner. I understand and see the differences but yet really like the tried and proven 4 Runner. Even though it’s body on frame, it rides extremely smooth and is very quiet. I can’t wait to take this offroad.

Build Quality Second to None

The Toyota 4Runner is built on the Land Cruiser J150 platform and shares the engine, transmission, frame, and all suspension components with the Land Cruiser Prado sold in the Middle East. It's build quality is second to none being assembled in the Lexus Tahara plant in Japan. If you cannot afford a J200 Land Cruiser, but this J150 4Runner. It is spectacular. Hands down one of the most reliable vehicles sold in the USA. No transmission issues. No engine issues. Body panel fit and finish is world class. The 2WD version is excellent for around town and light off road use. Fantastic vehicle.
