Logical choice
My 2005 Limited V8 is the first SUV I've owned and the X-REAS suspension and V8 have eased the transition. X- REAS (option for Ltd) "flattens" the vehicle on turns with any kind of speed and reduces lean/roll. My 4Runner is more nimble than I imagined it would be and the turning radius is quite manageable. The V8 has a snarl when the gearing allows it to stay above 2,000 RPM... passing is a joy. You will get pushed into the seat if you floor it (after 1,000 mi break-in!). The interior is firm, but not plush and the dash, etc. is top notch. However, be careful cleaning the clear plastic--it will scratch easily. If you leave the gate window open, you will smell exhaust. MPG? Feh.
A Fantastic Adventure Travel Vehicle!
We ordered our 4Runner from Japan because we couldn't buy a Sport Edition with GPS navigation off a dealer's lot. We also added 4WD. The car rides and handles great. ZERO mech. probs. Powerful V6 with decent economy. You really don't need the V8. The 4WD and off-road stability systems are amazing. I used them in a rare snow & ice storm in the Chisos Mtns in Big Bend National Park and was amazed at this SUV's sure-footedness. A few quibbles: Front cupholders stink. Must contort arms & hands to reach window and door lock switches on doors. Tire pressure and oil change idiot lights are annoying to reset. Overall, though, we LOVE this SUV. Even $4 gas can't persuade us to part with it!

Great all around Vehicle
Never have had a repair or adjustment made. Factory tow package easy to use and preforms well. Very steady feel on the road. Handles well at interstate speeds and eats up the open road. Long trips are easy and bad weather driving is secure.
Good car
I bought 4Runner as an interim vehicle because I could not decide and I will keep this car. It is well made, drives like a dream and has room for everything. Toyota considered every detail.
Well made vehicle
What an improvement over previous model years. The handling is refined like a car with limited body roll but does not sacrifice off-road capabilities. I am 6'4 and it would be nice if the front seat went back two more notches. The sound system is excellent and the back seats are roomy enough for a large adult to be comfortable. Exterior appearance is similar to the larger brother Sequoia but looks sportier all together. It would be nice if VSC can be disabled when in 2WD. Gas mileage averages 19.5 with combined city highway driving. V6 engine and 5 speed automatic are a perfect combination and provides a good pull through every gear.
