Proven, Capable, SUV
Bought this used with 89,000 miles from a friend who took very good care of the vehicle. Can't be happier with my new purchase, extremely reliable, no rattles or squeaks. Gas mileage is the only sticking point, but was expected when purchasing the vehicle. Surprisingly, I'm getting better gas mileage than what I expected. The trip computer on the car states 21.9 - 22 MPG, but calculating the mileage by hand is about 19 - 20.5 mpg. That's with 50/50 city/hwy driving. Navigation is decent, slightly cumbersome system, not as easy as Garmin. Leather is like-new and heat seaters are amazing!
Runs like a champ!
This is our second 4 Runner. After putting 110K miles on the 1998 model, I sold it to a friend (still had the original brakes) and we ended up buying a new 2005 4 Runner Limited. I have 175K on it and just ran into the first real problem which was an air conditioning component. They're great vehicles provided you keep up with the prescribed maintenance which is not a big deal. In addition to driving it to work, hunting / fishing trips and family vacations, it's also survived time at two university's. Although it has always comes home dirty, it just keeps going........... Overall it's pretty comfortable, rides well for it's age and dependable as hell. Has lived up to it's reputation as tough and long lasting! Update: My youngest daughter drove this 4 Runner through 4 years of undergrad college, back and forth to work for a few years, 3 years of law school and back to work again for a few years. The vehicle is now 14 years old and she doesn't have time to keep it up. Still runs like a tank with minimal care. It'll make a great first car for somebody's kid being so solid / safe or a weekend vehicle for Texans who tow their off-road toys out to the country or to a lake. Toyota made this model 4 Runner darn near bullet proof !!

Awesome 4runner!
For me, the ride, power, comfort of this 4runner is perfect! I know at a cost over $40,000 new, this wouldn't be for me. But buying it at a great used price and it was well cared for by previous owner. It has 182,000 on it but you wouldn't know it. I think the one drawback to this would be the timing belt. On this engine damgage can occur if belt would break. From what I hear , it is costly to have done at a dealership to have the belt replaced. I plan on doing it myself however. I have driven it in slippery road conditions and it has performed excellent! Better then my 4wd Tacoma. Knowing what I know now...I would have had one sooner if the price was right.

would definitely buy another one.
I bought this vehicle because of Toyota's legendary reliability. I drive 35,000 miles per year and don't need a vehicle I can't depend on. An added bonus was the vehicles 4 wheel drive capabilities. It will go almost anywhere.
#1
We brought the 4runner because of its looks, reliablity, and value after used, we are pleased. Its performance in passing slow cars on two lane roads is great. Its good to know you can get through any kind of snow or slippery condition if you need too also. It has a comfortable ride.
