Safety, quality, great AWD and fun to drive
Purchased certified used 2014 Limited 6 months ago. MPG has solidly averaged 26mpg and on road trips I get 30-33mpg if I stay under 70. Prior Car: 2004 Volvo XC 70 The Subaru had everything that is important to me - safety, visibility, quality, AWD, quiet ride, passenger space and few extras I wanted--awesome sunroof, heated seats, fog lights. I am impressed with the handling. Problems with competitors included awful cabin noise (RAV-4, CR-V, Equinox), cheap components (Compass, Equinox, CX-5), higher price for same features/quality (Escape, Volvo), terrible visibility (Venza), extra charge for AWD or 4WD that isn't as refined as Subaru, poor mpg (Volvo). Forester had it all.
First Subaru
Just bought mt first Subaru this wekend. We were set on the CRV but wanted to at least look at the Forester. Well, we drove it home, done deal. I will come back and post more once we get used to it. So far it seems like an amazing little SUV. A bit of electronic overload setting up the audio, but we have it all figured out now. Good buying experience here with Heuberger Motors in Colorado Springs. 2.5i CVT Touring with mirror and rugged packages for $28,244. Great people to work with.

DONT BUY IT!!!
I would give any Subaru dealership a zero if possible. Although new Port Richey dealership was great when purchasing and gave the best deal....or so I thought. I am a first time Subaru owner, was excited at this new venture until I ended up with a vehicle that lasted 5 years....yes $25,000+ for a 5 year disposable car. I bought because I heard they have longevity of life....apparently the CVT Transmission is a car killer...I even pleaded my case with Subaru corporation themselves with a resounding ,”sorry cant do anything” After, complaining of sluggishness , car lights on dash lit up like Christmas tree and took it in and is was a recall thing....later to be told I needed a $1,500 repair to CVT Valve body...my car went from sluggish to jerking and jolting now...not only did I get a worse off car but I paid $1,500 for that. To be clear the repair was at Fitzgerald Subaru Clearwater. The manager David and service rep Larry were super nice and tried to accommodate but at end of day could only offer to put money spent on repair towards new transmission so still out of pocket for over $7,000 That’s my first experience and last with a Subaru ...I’d do some serious thinking before you purchase one unless you like 5 year disposable cars. My 2008 Honda on the other hand has only ever needed a new starter and I have over 160,000 miles..food for thought. I would hate to see someone go through the same experience.

No Problems With This One!
I've seen some complaints about the forester burning out, but I've had my for 21,000 miles and two years and never had a problem with oil burning. Overall seems to be a good car for the money. I will update this if there are any changes. Also, I'm a bigger guy at 6' to 6'1'' and around 200 pounds and the car has plenty of room for me.

Good for the money
I have the 6 speed manual and got about 30 mpg on the highway with average speed of 75 mph. Put 3500 miles on it in the first two weeks (road trip). Drove down the Pacific Highway (CA 1) and it handled pretty well. It was a little underpowered going up steep hills in the Rockies (had to change down to 4th), but that's not why I bought it, as I will do 99.99% of my driving on the flat. It did OK in San Francisco though, with a lower speed limit in 2nd. It's mainly intended as a runabout which will get me through the odd snow day. It serves that purpose extremely well.
