The Ram Review

2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4dr Crew Cab 5.6 ft SB (3.6L 6cyl gas/electric mild hybrid 8A)

The dodge ram 1500 that I purchased has a V6 engine. Just be aware as you look at the price. This was not a deal breaker for me, and since I do not do a lot of towing works for me. Otherwise this truck was exactly what I was looking for.

I will never ever buy another RAM again!!! Persistent issues that have plagued my truck since day 1. Seems issues cannot be resolved and to add insult am told that the large monitor is crap and has known problems. Do NOT buy this product!!!

Electrical Fire

Last week (Thursday) my family and I were getting ready to leave for Luray, VA for camping, when my 2020 RAM night-out edition crew cab caught on fire. I have a 28' travel camper that I hooked up to it. The truck was not running at the time and sitting in front of my house nor was any thing powered on inside the camper. Upon my wife picking my 9-year old son up from 1/2 at school, he came through the door and said he was going to put some personal items in the back of the truck cab (not the bed). He came running back inside yelling for me saying there is smoke coming out of the back of the truck. I immediately ran out and to my surprise, there was smoke coming out from under the bed of the truck by the hitch. I immediately pulled the 7-prong plug out of the outlet. As I looked underneath, the entire wiring harness that controls my trailer brakes, turn signals, etc. was actually on fire. I ran back into the house to grab a fire extinguisher and was successful at putting out the flames. I examined both the truck and the camper and neither of them blew a fuse/breaker. I called both the camper dealership (purchased August 2020) and the dealership I purchased the RAM from in December of 2019. The truck was driveable so I was able to drop the truck off later that afternoon at Tri-Star in Uniontown, PA. The next day the dealership called me and said they never seen or heard of this happening. They immediately blamed it on the camper. However, they sent in a RAM technician who examined the issue on Saturday. Monday came around and the dealership said the RAM technician said the problem wasn't with the truck; the technician from RAM said all of the wires were grounded. My question was that he could tell there was no short in the wiring harness with all the wires melted and fried. The dealership said I will have to either turn it into my insurance or pay for it outright ($550 for the wiring harness and $120/hr for labor @ 9 - 10 hours = approximately $1800) for something I am not at fault for. I told them if it was the camper, the electrical issue would of surged back through the camper wire causing issues on the camper; the source was the electrical components from RAM (Factory-installed and came with the truck-I did no alterations to it). I hung up the phone and called Chrysler direct. They had a person call me directly on Tuesday saying he is a 3rd party and he will be out to look at the truck (still sitting at the dealership) later that afternoon. I have towed numerous times with the camper and other trailers (utility) and never had an issue. Luckily, my wife and child were not on the road traveling when this happened on the road. This could have been disastrous and life-threatening. I am currently waiting to hear back from Chrysler in regards to their findings. I was wondering if anyone else had any issues close to or similar to the electrical issue I experienced?

2020 Ram 1500 Limited- drives like a dream. Love the air ride suspension. Ram boxes are amazing with the split tailgate. This truck impresses everywhere it goes. The build quality really is impressive! I hope the reliability lives up to my expectations, the electronics worry me.. but we’ll see. The HK speakers are fantastic and there’s so little road noise.. fantastic vehicle, this stacks up against several friends Mercedes and land rovers competitively!

Had this truck for a year and driven it 12K. We are pleased at the attention to detail that Ram included in the new design. From a total of 5 Ram 1500's, this one is far superior.
