Best value for your money. Good looking vehicle. Had a 2016 with 14K miles with no issues whatsoever. Liked it so much, We bought a 2017 also!

Four years in it and we are still happy!

Our Outlander is now at 78,000 and apart from regular routine maintenance, all it has needed is rear brake pads and one map light. It has been perfectly reliable and exceedingly practical. Its 4 cylinder engine is naturally aspirated and has no turbo to break, and it’s matched to a CVT transmission that uses its power wisely. While its engine is no powerhouse, it’s peppy and has no problem keeping up on the highway. Thanks to the CVT it also gets surprisingly good fuel economy—often 32 mpgs on the highway. The AWD is amazing in the snow! Unlike most rivals it comes with an AWD lock feature much like a 4x4. So it doesn’t wait for a wheel to slip before sending it power, it has full traction at all times. It is also comfortable on long trips. We liked that it has less engine noise and more forgiving suspension than the Rav4, the other vehicle we considered buying. The seats are not overly wide but they are comfortable and supportive. For negatives, bluetooth phone calls come out of a speaker on the right side. Perhaps the system was designed for right hand drive vehicles sold in the UK? But it works well enough if you turn the volume up! The harder you step on the gas while merging on the highway also makes the CVT transmission rev the engine up high. This puts the engine into its powerband, and it does make it supply power for merging, but it also makes a usually quiet engine much louder. Once we learned that it just does this to give oomph when we needed it, it was easy to get used to. The Jatco CVT in earlier CVTs gets a bad rap, but this is a newer “CVT8” that has supposedly been improved. Nissan uses the same transmission in the heavier Murano and mates it to a much more powerful V6. If it can take that, with the Outlander’s lower weight and less powerful engine it should last forever with regular oil changes. Websites that track car complaints echo this as there are almost no transmission complaints for this and newer years unlike many of its rivals. I sometimes wish we had purchased the Outlander GT with the V6 for greater towing capacity, but with the current price of gas I’m glad we got this one. It’s perfect for 95 percent of what we want and 100 percent of what we need.

Have had this car three years now. Bought at 40K miles and now have 86K. I have only paid to change the oil and new brakes. Super reliable. Paired with snow tires this car is a beast in the snow. Great gas milage. 3rd row seat is a bonus. This car is a hidden gem if you want a budget friendly AWD small SUV.

Not worth the money

We have 8,000 miles on the vehicle and so far have already received 2 recall notices from Mitsubishi Motors. The first one for faulty door latch components and just got another yesterday for defective relays involving the engine control unit. If the relay fails the engine will stall while driving and cannot be restarted. If the relay for the engine valve lift control fails, it limits the available engine power. If the relay for the radiator fan fails, the engine may overheat. We brought a vehicle that we thought we could rely on and with the recalls we are now in doubt. Because there are no local dealers in our area we have to drive 4 hours for a 1/2 repair or more to have the recalls taken care of. I'm disappointed in the reliability and lack of dealers. For the time we have to spend driving and the expense to get the recalls taken care of we do not feel that this vehicle is right for us and do not think I would recommend this vehicle to someone else.
