2002 Millenia
I got this car with 137k miles on it and kept it for almost 5 years. This is a luxury car and is expensive to repair. I recommend financing a certified car if you want this. Something had to be changed every few months and it usually cost north of $1000. I spent around $2000 (and even more) every year to keep this car on the road. Parts are overpriced ($330 per engine mount is insane and there are 4 of them!). The check engine light is a huge issue with this car. As it ages, many exhaust components need to be changed (vacuum lines, egr port, catalytic converters, o2 sensors...the list goes on). I can only recommend this car to a mechanic or someone with deep pockets. It loves maintenance.
Lemon?
I bought my Millenia new in 2002. Had problems with it from beginning. It is the white with gold bottom. Loved all the extras for the price. Very loud interior road noise. So bad you can't talk on cell. Engine light problems early on, caused by Mazda requiring premium fuel--which they later revised--but not until they had to work on the engine 5 times! Very tough dealing with Mazda. I read other reviews about how quiet theirs are. I wonder if we're talking about the same car. I even bought new tires that are supposed to be known for their quiet ride. When those didn't help, I realized it was the car. I'm glad all the others are satisfied. It was a lot of car for the price, but a lemon!
S Model Problems
I've had my S since 2002, always had basic maintenance done. It has 95000 anad is due for Timing belt change to the tune of $2500. Valve covers leaking into cylinders, misfiring and not burning all gas which might be hurting the cat converter. Might need ignition coils, clogged ECG valve. This car was fine until now and now its going to cost over $3500 or more to get these things fixed. Very expensive car to maintain with higher mileage. Think twice about buying a used S model unless you have deep pockets.
Great car!
I bought this car used - 2 years old with 26,000 miles. I've now had it for 6 years and have had only tires and brakes needing replacement. It's been a great car and I love driving it. Just wish it was a bit better on mileage, but can't complain, 'cause it really gets up and goes!
Mazda Millenia
Bought this car in 2008, very good mileage 72,900. Love this car handles great good gas mileage looks great. Wish they bring them back 2011.
Dream Car Nightmare Maintenace
I had this car for about 6 months and the writing was on the wall. It seems like a 2k to 3k a year just to keep it on the road. The parts are overpriced. It still looked great and I loved driving it. I had a 626 long ago and put 250,000 miles on it but always wanted the Millenia. Some dreams are better left as dreams.
mixed bag
Can be a great value as a used car, so definitely worth a look for the nice interior design & materials, smooth ride, and upscale, if somewhat generic, Japanese sedan look. However, poor interior packaging makes this somewhat large sedan small on the inside (uncomfortable to drive w/knees splayed out--I'm 6'3"). Also, they have harsh shifting auto trannies with poor reliability, and other reliability issues as well. 170hp base engine is pretty weak. Fuel economy for a sedan is only 23mpg mixed city/hwy, and worst of all, requires premium fuel! If the tranny was smooth, there was another few inches of driver legroom, and my check engine light would turn off...then I'd probably love it!
Good Car
I have had this car for over 3 years now. No major issues. Here are some of the things that concern me about the car 1. The weather stripping is already cracking. Dealer quote for just one door 179$ + labor 2. Transmission is not very smooth. You feel a jerk when going from the 1st gear to the second. Dealer says this is common in these cars. This makes me think, I might have some transmission problems in the near feature. 3. The leather inside is not very supple. Its on the harder side 4. I have about 70,000 miles on the car and I already hear some rattle from the body.
Expensive to fix and maintain
Just purchased this car for college aged daughter. Purchased from a private party in a state that does not require emission inspections (Ohio). Car drove like a dream; ext. and int. were in great shape for a 10 yr. old car. It had a reasonable amount of mileage (121,000). The owner mentioned the check engine light was on but their mechanic could'nt diagnose the problem. Needless to say, after purchasing the car, taking it to Pa for inspection...it failed miserably! $2300.00 later! change the catalytic converters; fix broken seal on transmission; change a light bulb (requires front bumper to be removed!). Pretty car....but way too expensive to maintain! Buy only if you have $$$ to fix.
To Die For
I leased this car brand new and after the lease I had to buy it. It's a great car, (good going Mazda). It has 47,xxx miles and all I've had to do is change the oil and buy new brakes. Of course I buy a lot of extras just to assure its performance. Usually Mazda has bad transmissions but the Millenia S proved me wrong. It's a smart choice for a used car. When this one dies I'm going to look for another one with low miles.
I love my Millenia!
Bought my Millenia one year ago and still loving it! Got a fantastic deal on it, only regret is that I did not upgrade to the "S". My husband wanted a Maxima, but I had spotted the Millenia a couple of years ago and had my eye on it. Finally decided to get it when we heard it was being discontinued. Expect to keep it for many years. We always get compliments on what a sharp-looking car it is, and people are always amazed at the incredible interior once they step inside.
I found my baby n 2015 with 45k
Never buy the car before you research the maintenance package that it's about to have for instance I bought it with 45000 miles at 60,000 miles it cost me almost $3,000 apparently the supercharged versions have two timing belts 2 water pumps and two types of serpentine belts but all in all I actually love this car so much it's ridiculous the handling it like a Beemer it writes comfortable like a Lexus the Bose sound system is to die for all in all it really is a great car except for the price of maintenance

Still Turning Heads
Purchased new, still turning heads when cleaned and polished after eight years! Trouble free (knock on wood).
2002 Mazda Mellinia S
I bought the car new in 2002 & still have it with 75000.00 miles. It is a wonderful car with beautiful a design. I have had no problems at all with this car . Although newer cars have a lot more gadgets , I am satisfied with what i have . It has a good power & the gas mile is OK for the amount of driving i do.Because of this car I will definitely consider a Mazda if I decide to buy another vehicle although a hatch would make more sense. I am updating my review. Around 80,000.00 miles my Mazda refused to drive in Drive mode. I had ti put it into !st & as the rpm's rose put it in drive. Cost me $ 2800.00 to fix. A few miles later the car stared to overheat. I had changed the radiator fluid every 2 years even if it did not need it. It cost me $1000.00 to have a new radiator, hoses & thermostat installed. When I went to pick the car I was told that the Floor pan & frame was badly rusted . My car was always in a garage & washed practically every week.Cost me another $1000.00.A month later the check engine light came on. It needed an air flow sensor & temperature sensor. I had the car running to the dealership & traded it in for a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek & had the bottom rustproofed. I will not consider a Mazda again.

Good used value, but no Toyonda
Good value used...bought the car real cheap, and since it looks like a Lexus and has similar interior craftsmanship it is a great value. Very comfortable seats. Nicely equipped. Good brakes and nice handling. A joy to drive on windy roads. However, not all is well. Transmission needed replacement at 65k miles. Even after replacement, 1-2 shift is somewhat harsh, a seemingly common issue with this car (does not lead to long term confidence). Check Engine light is perennially on (EGR Valve). slight oil and coolant leaks. Previous owner or subpar reliability in general? In general, a comfortable nice car that is not a paragon of Japanese quality.
Best car I ever owned
I bought my 2002 Millenia S in 2005 with 27,000 miles on it. It has 87,000 miles on it now and I have replaced tires, front and rear brakes, broken radiator hose and vacuum leak. Thats all I have done. Car runs perfect...always passes smog test and looks amazing. I get compliments on it almost every time I drive it. Everything still works like new and the car has lots of power with the supercharger.
Smooth
Love my Mazda my third one. Would buy another one!!! Love the body still. Beautiful gold color.

At Six Years & 80K
Bought brand new for $25K after owning 2 brand new Accords. This car still turns my head in a parking lot full of newer models. Very dependable, fun to drive, comfortable on long trips. Cost to replace timing belt is doubled due to the supercharger belt. Love to hear that compressor sing, though. This baby really scoots with the Miller Cycle engine and scroll supercharger, even if it does require premium gas. The alloy wheels have coroded on the inside resulting in loss of air pressure in tires and excessive wear. Paint on side view mirrors has worn off and auto-dimming rear view mirror has worn out. Other than that, it has been a wonderful ride.
So Far So Good
I love the look of my car I think it is a very classy looking car. Mine is black and looks great when it is clean and polished. I obviously haven't had it very long but have always liked the look of these cars.
2002 Mazda Millenia
I do not like this car and i do not recamend it unless you have a lot of money. This is my first car and i got it for my 16th birthday. I have spend around $2000 getting repairs done on it and I have only had it for about a year and half. It is terrible on gas. Since i have got the car i have has to replace the timing belt, change the radiator, all the spark plugs, the thermostat, the cords too the spark plugs and more. It coast way to much to get fixed and the check engine light has be on constantly, no matter what i get done it will not go off. Although it is a nice car I do not reccomend it to anyone. Also something is still wrong with the car and it wont even run now.
My sons 1st vehicle
So far everything seems fine. Good looking and running car. 109k on it so I'll update if problems arise
MY NEW TOY!
After driving a 626 for 8 years and evaluating other cars for quite some time I finally decided to buy the Millenia. It is a well built near luxury car with lot of standard options only found on the competition as extras, great value for the money. Drive beautifully making you feel like a million dollar, it makes a lot of heads turn.
One Nice Car
This is one nice car! If it was not so unique and sharp I would buy a V6 Fusion or Mazda 6 with this 6 cyl engine in heartbeat.
Zoom Zoom Zoom
I'm tickled pink with my new Millenia S.
First Mazda
I always told my wife I would never buy a 4dr car ! I went to the dealer looking for an SUV for my daughter and one for my wife. I saw the Millenia in Platinum with the gray leather interior and built in Japan then the dealer told me the deals being offered and I was hooked!!! My wife loves it.
I'M SO EXCITED!!!
What can I say about this car? An All- American (Ford) girl myself, I thought I would never buy a foreign car but I am sold!!! I bought the Millenia after my Ford Contour (still one of my favorite cars) transmission went bad. I needed a car ASAP, and I actually bought the Millenia knowing little about it. Oh, ignorance is bliss. I'm so excited!!! I love this car, and I pray that Mazda will bring it back soon! I would buy another one (even new) all over again.
mazda millenia
very good car. Very good acceleration. The interior scheme is kind of different but that's the whole point. Plus I like the fact that not to many people have the car.
HOLY SMOKE! WHAT A DEAL!
I looked at the Avalon, the Camry, the Accord and the Millenia. As a former Honda addict, the transition to such a luxury ride was surprisingly pleasant. Doesn't ride as smoothly as the Avalon, but has KICK BUTT sportiness you don't get with an Avalon. The Special Edition S (what I purchased) is simply beyond beautiful - inside and out! It turns heads everywhere. I've actually caught co-workers wandering around my new car in the parking lot admiring it! When you stop at a redlight/stopsign, you couldn't even hear the engine if you stood outside in absolute silence. Every imaginable amentity in the world - except a navigation system!!
Too bad is its last year!!
Before the rebates, this car was out of my price range, but when I added it all up and realized I could get this car for about $21,000 after rebates I could have not pass on the oportunity. The fully loaded Accord and Camry don't even come with as many options and they sell in the $25k-$28ks depending on the options. Car companies should sell cars at such discounts more often. Such special deals make consumer dreams come true. I always wanted a car with all these features... The car drives great and is very comfortable. I get a lot of complements on the car, is very attractive! Great car for long trips.
Get one before they're gone!!!
A luxury car for $21,000? That is what you will get if you buy one of these. With a sticker price of $30,000, dealer incentives and discounts brings this car within reach. Look around at other cars, the top of the line Maxima, Accord, Camry, Avalon, or domestic cars in this category and you'll spend $4000- 8000 more for the same ride, equipment, and reliability. I drove all the above cars, bottom line, money talks.
02 Millenia
This car gets attention. Drive one and people will not only notice it, but also offer many compliments on your fine taste. This is a beautiful car. Mazda's attention to detail inside and out, and the overall fit and finish are impeccable. Even the base model is loaded with high quality leather, power sunroof, and a luxury car paint job.
My first Japanese and luxuary car
Mazda provided great incentives for pricing the car. I agree that this is a lot of luxury car for the money. I never dreamed I would pay this price for luxury! I've never purchased a Japanese car before but I'm a changed person! Quality is great!
smart choice
This is the third mazda I have owned. I purchased my brand new millenia for 20000 about two weeks ago. This is considerably less than a new maxima, which was my first choice. I could not be more satisfied with my purchase. The car has every luxury feature you could want.
Great Value
I am just about to finalize the purchase my second Millenia today. My first was a 1999 (2.5 L, not the S) which had 30k miles when purchased, used as a daily driver and sold with approx 130k miles, still strong expect for bad rear mail seal. Wonderful car aside from eventually developing the leaking rear main seal which these cars are notorious for. Luxury at a fraction of the cost and very dependable for the most part. If you can find one with low miles that hasn't been abused BUY IT.
Great Value- Get one while you Can
Awesome value for the price.
Our Second Millinea S
We traded-in our 1997 to buy the last of an excellent car line. Mazda should have come up with a replacemetn.
Always wanted a Mellenia
Can't believe how much I like this car. Great looking outside, and super comfortable inside. Can have a conversation or enjoy the music even with the sunroof open. I like NOT seeing one in every parking lot, or coming around every corner. Makes it all the more "special" Also like getting so many great features that would be options or not available on other cars.
Happy Happy Joy Joy
I am so glad that I decided to purchase this Millenia. It is a wonderful vehicle that I am sure will last me a long time.
Excellent car for the $$$
Vehicle is a great vehicle for the money. One feels good when driving it. Creature comforts make this vehicle stand out. We bought it for 19.9 and is still currently advertised that way in local papers brand spanking new.
My new Millenia
We just purchased the vehicle about two weeks ago (6/2002). This is our third Mazda and the best yet. The new styling is very attractive. The fit, feel, and finish of the whole car resembles that of many other more expensive cars. The $5,000 rebate made this car deal extraordinary. Where else can you get all of this for $21,500?
SAFETY
MY WIFE WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT WITH OUR 2 MONTH OLD MILLENIA. THE OFFICERS AT THE ACCIDENT ATTRIBUTED THE MILLENIA WITH THE ABILITY OF MY WIFE TO GET OUT AND WALK AWAY FROM THE ACCIDENT. WE ARE GETTING READY TO PURCHASE A SECOND MILLENIA AND POSSIBLY A THIRD. INCIDENTLY THE MILLENA WAS TOTALED BUT THE OTHER CAR FAIRED ALOT WORSE. I AM SAD THAT THIS IS THE LAST MODEL YEAR FOR THE MILLENIA.
Wonderful ride so far .....
Owned vehical for only (30) days, however I think we made a very good choice with this car. Paid $22.2k after manufacturers rebate, and auto show incentive (that includes trading in a '00 Civic with eleven months left on a 39 month lease !!). Without a doubt, we bought more car for less money than any other. We also have the 4 seasons package thatr added bun warmers, traction control, etc. I highly recommend buyers in this market give the Millenia a try. The "P" version is no rocket, but the engine performs very well, with a high level of refinement. Very quiet. (Keep in mind we traded in a Civic
So far so good.
First time Millenia owner. Purchased for my wife over an Accord and she loves it. We get many looks when driving and many great comments on the car. Great rebates and cash backs on the deal, couldn't pass up.
The best car I've ever owned!
This is it the Millenia S is the car I've always wanted, and now I get to drive it every day. Easy to drive, yet fun. Affordable, yet luxurious. Low key, yet strikingly beautiful. Simply the best car around in it's league. My roomie purchased a new Maxima just a day before I bought the Millenia. The Nissan has some nice touches (especially in the interior,) but so far, he's had to have a speaker replaced and his parking brake handle readjusted. So far, I've only had to put some gas into the Millenia. He he. Really though, this is an awesome car. Word is that this is their last year, so, if you want to finally drive a perfect car, I'd buy one while they're still available.
NO POWER
THEY NEED A MUCH BIGGER ENGINE IN THIS CAR, OVERALL IT IS A GOOD RIDE.
Traded a 2000 XJ8
Trading a car that had a price tag of more than twice the Mazda made me a bit uncomfortable but the Mazda Does its job well and I am Happy with my purchase.
Finally Got One!
I have wanted a Millenia since they were introduced in '95 and finally got one! The 2002 S Model is stylish, fun to drive, and didn't break the bank. It does so many things right that I look past its few shortcomings. With only 13k miles on it, I'll be enjoying this one for a long, long time.
I'm Driving a Luxury Car? No way!
So my wife and I went to go test drive the Tribute and of course I was drooling over the Millenia but realized the sticker would end my life as I know without debt. Then my trusty salesman pulled out the VERY LAST 2001 Millenia. We went for a ride and asked what I thought? Great car $12,000 too much thanks but no thanks. Long story short, my wife and I brought the car home yesterday for the same price as the Tribute!!!!!!!!
Best Mazda Yet
I just bought a brand new millenia and I love it it is smooth and quiet and handles well
Love it!
This is my 3rd Mazda and my second Millenia and I love it! I bought this car new and as usual have not had any trouble with it, all I do is change the oil and tune it once in a while. The special edition is only made in black and has the titanium package, white and black leather with white inserts on the door. If you are buying used don't be fooled by the ads that state special edition but are other than black. I wish they still made them, its the best car I had, and will look for another if something happens to this one.
