2016 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)

We purchased our 2016 MKZ Hybrid fully loaded with 5800 miles on it, less than a year old at the time (1/2 of MSRP as well!!). Still have it at 76K miles. Its been great!! The only thing I've had to do is replace the coolant thermostat. The timing chain cover is starting to leak a bit, but that is passive oil and not under pressure so its not a big deal. I don't like how much you have to do to reseal the cover (I do all my own work), but that is the life of modern cars in general now. My understanding was this generation was specifically designed for the european market (meaning handling matters). Its a really solid car. It has been reliable. Ours has all of the options including multicontour seats (messaging), tech package, parking options.. Overall so far? Pretty big car that gets a solid and true 40 mpg on regular gas and that is cruising along at 70 or 75 mph in general on the freeway, so driving with normal traffic up here in Seattle and in the fast lane. I do really like the safety feature where it flashes red lights and a audible alarm on the wind shield if it thinks you are at risk for rear ending someone. A number of years ago when I was really working a lot.. it truly woke me up when I was spacing on the road tired and probably saved or at least avoided unneccesary excitment in my life... Even now it is a great feature. My brother was a ford mechanic for 30+ years before I purchased it. I asked him what his impressions are of the ford hybrid system (mainly reliability).. he never saw a problem with them. However folks still have the impression that american will mean unreliable.. so that means it is a market opportunity if you understand this and let the new purchaser take the hit in depreciation. Our basically new price for this car was at least 50% less than a comparible used Toyota Lexus Hybrid ES300h at the time with 50K miles on it. Ultimately the Toyota will hold a better resale, thats really because Toyota has done an amazing job maintaining their reliability over decades in the market. The american brands have not. However that doesn't mean times haven't changed. Would I buy a new american vehicle? Absolutely not, however strongly more no than a Toyota/Lexus new.. but still no either way. Because you purchase one less than a Toyota/Lexus on the front end (both used and comparable), I suspect the depreciation is roughly the same in terms of $. You'll pay less for the Lincoln but get less at the end and the opposite for the Toyota/Lexus. So pick your poison. But know if money is tight going in, I wouldn't think twice of going with a Ford Hybrid personally especially after my experience and my brothers 30 years of experience working at Ford.
