I have looked at the 2003 BMW 745i, Mercedes Benz S Class, and ended up with a great Lexus LS 430. I-Drive on the 745i was a downer for the BMW, Mercedes S Class was too expensive for a lesser car. The 2004 Lexus LS 430 was rated first place is a comparison test in which BMW 735i ranked 3rd and Mercedes S Class ranked last at 6th place. The 2004 Lexus LS 430 is exactly what Car & Driver described it.

Thought I was going to buy a low mileage 2003 540i. Pretty to look at, very fast, but surprisingly rough ride, noisy; felt somewhat crude, like a 4 door version of my first car, a 5 spd Mustang GT. Drove the LS430 the next day. Like upgrading to the Ritz Carlton after staying at a rustic ski cabin! So smooth, refined, quiet. Effortless speed, with graceful throttle step-in. Made me feel upper class, like a king. SOLD!

Best car I've ever owned

I've owned Japanese, German and American cars over my 50+ years and have never owned a better car. The new 2004 replaced (traded in) my 2001 LS430. The braking on the LS is phenomenal. The '04 has improved pads and rotors. The six speed transmission gives the car a 0 - 60 of 5.9 seconds and I swear it is actually faster than that. The keyless entry is wonderful as well. It is very, very convenient to keep the fob in your pocket when you open doors and start the car without having to fumble for a key. The adaptive Front Lighting System (headlights aim where you are going) is great. This is an incredible Driver’s Automobile.

brilliant execution on luxury genre. almost impossible to fault. As far as I can see it mercedes looks like tyson and lexus is hollyfield. Round by round lexus has begun to wear the feared bully down. Every volley of fire matched by lexus. amazing close quarter combat. Lexus seems unfazed by a series of high tech blows. Lexus seems to absorb evrything techno benz can throw.
