I love my car - 3 years later there is not another car on the road that I want to drive. The only down side we have seen is that the brakes wear unreasonably quick - 20k miles or there about. That does not change my mind about the car - she handles oh so well!

I purchased mine a Lexus Certified Used car, and all I can is "wow!" This car has just about everything a driver would need under the Sun. Once in gear, this car is like race horse ready to sprint out of the gate. The handling is excellent and very agile around corners and curves. One has to watch, however, the speedometer, as I found myself going from 40 to 80 in a few seconds.

I purchased this car in 2012 with 67,000 miles on it from a random used car dealer (it did have service records and it was a one owner vehicle however). Here I am in 2020 with 148,000 miles on it and this thing is still going strong and reliable everyday. I've replaced one starter and one alternator. Thats it, thats all!!! The rest of the service I've had performed were regular maintenance and wear and tear items......The motor is still silent and powerful with a subtle growl when you punch it. The car literally outlasted the paint. I had the color changed from Lexus black to Lexus pearl white. To make a long story short (too late...lol), this has been one of highest overall quality cars I've ever owned. I'm thinking of buying another car, but I'm not trading my Lexus!!!! I can't justify it. I'll park it and let it rest for a while. Maybe I'll drive it a few times a week. But not ready to let it go yet....I'd have separation anxiety!!!! Lexus is forever!!!!

I absolutely love this vehicle! The GS 430 has an engine that rocks, an interior that had to be fitted by the people at the Four Seasons, the best stereo system in the Mark Levinson bar none, and a design that makes your mouth water. Lexus needs to stop thinking it needs to chase the BMW 5 series. You are the benchmark in my mind.

This car is so fun to drive. I got a CPO last year with only 47000 miles. It is so amazing, how it rides. I actually giggled the first time I tried to pass someone on the freeway because I wasn't expecting it to speed up quite so merrily! Fun surprise! It feels so luxurious that I felt embarrassed to be driving it at first. Nobody deserves to drive in such luxury. It's just a blessing. :) The only complaints are that the dashboard squeaking will not cease. Lexus paid to fix it and it has been looked at about four times already but it cannot be fixed, even with that special fix they have. Also, a/c and park assist sensors have gone out and were fixed but the a/c took three times.

2006 Lexus GS 430 Review

Rob, 10/27/2006

Really enjoy the car except for the minor problems. Car has great performance, could only imagine it being perfect with the new LS 460's engine. Needs a bigger fuel tank, better seat heaters, and the Mark Levinson stereo needs more bass... nothing an aftermarket JL Audio sub can't cure. Car seems to have a few rattles in the dash that dealer has yet to narrow down and the brakes began to squeal. I was told that these are performance brakes and its normal. Lexus's solution is to put on less performance pads and lose out on the great brakes, I don't think so. I also would like to shut off the way to sensitive traction control, which I believe you can on the 2007.

Bought this car from my son who put over 45k miles in less than 14 months. Read editor's model review which a lot better than consumer's ratings. Had a minor problem with tire warning coming on and not a very smooth ride. The dealer techs kept replacing the sensor in the tires and the warning would stay off for a couple thousand miles and I would have to go back in again. Well, to make a long story short the front struts were bad!! Although out of warranty Lexus replaced them and now it handles like a 60k car again. I own a small auto repair shop and you will not go wrong buying this car for around $30k :]

I was toying with the idea of a Merc, BMW or even a Jag untill I took a ride in my friends older 430. I then realized that I have been a total nut overlooking the Lexus for the Merc (I had a S500). This car beats everything else high and dry, no car is worth comparing to this beauty. After buying it the same day! i have taken the "emperor" all the way to yellowstone and back and it was pure pleasure, like a bottle of 1960's wine. When you are cruising on the freeway make sure you look at your speed, your touch 100 without even a slight shake or whirr of the engine. Frankly if I were the CEO of Mercedes or BMW, I would not be able to sleep well at night, this 430 has beaten every car by miles

Traded in a lackluster Mercedes E320 for this GS430 and couldn't be happier. This car is extremely fun to drive and it has all the luxuries you could ever need. Seats that cool and heat, navigation, incredible Mark Levinson stereo, bluetooth, rear backup camera, park assist, keyless entry and start (the key never has to leave my briefcase)!!! At first I thought the styling was too subtle but each day I like the looks more and more. I would definitely recommend this as a luxury sedan for the middle age crowd that enjoys driving.

Excellent controls and control panel design. Lexus is known for having logical and organized panels. High technology and dependable. Good resale value. Outstanding gas mileage 26 mpg hwy 20 city. The run flat tires on the car are terrible and expensive. I replaced 5 tires in 13 months at $400 a tire. I finally traded the vehicle in when the dealership informed me this was an ongoing problem with all of their sport vehicles and there was nothing they could do about the problem.

I traded in a 2003 BMW 7 series for this car. It is great! The exterior styling is much better in real life and gets a lot of positive comments. The interior is near perfect. The seats are comfortable and everything is logically laid out (except for the controls next to the steering wheel which you cannot see). The navigation system is intuitive and easy to understand and input. I had XM satellite radio installed and have the Mark Levinson option, which makes it hard to leave the car sometimes. I paid sticker price and after owning it a few weeks think it is worth more. A much better car than the BMW.

This is such an incredible improvement over my last car a 2002 GS 430. From the Nav System to the 6 speed transmission. Interior fit/finish is superb. Two suggestions: 25 more hp and increase powered subwoofer on ML system to 250 watts. Otherwise a dream to drive. Smooth dynamic and the exterior lines attract attention. Blue tooth pretty good .

Everything one would expect from a Lexus (reliability, excellent features, smooth and quiet) plus surprisingly good performance. It may be slightly less sporty than a BMW or Audi but for most driving situations the overall experience is more satisfying. Although the styling is subtle, I get favorable comments everytime I park the car. Excellent gas mileage for a V8.

This car is awesome, my favorite thing about my GS is the back up camera and the parking assist. The stereo and dvd player make the car that much more nice and the navigation helps me out a lot. I have no sense of direction so I love knowing where I am and where I am going at all times. LOL! I honestly have no complaints about my GS, I love it. I also own a 1995 SC 400, that I just can't seem to part with, it has almost 200,000 miles and still runs strong. I have never had any major problems with either of my Lexuses. Thanks Lexus for making a realiable and great looking vehicle.

I purchased this vehicle used from the original owner. Drove it for a few years then sold it to my brother. He drove it for a few years and now I took it back from him. I have had many cars, but this is the only one I regret selling. Now I have it back. The car now has 230,000 km on it and it is still the best vehicle I have driven. The V8 engine is so smooth and has good power. This car is 17 years old and does not look or feel its age. Friends of mine think the car is 4-5 years old. When I tell them it's 17 years old they are flabbergasted to say the least. Too bad Lexus do not make cars like this anymore. My wife has had two RX'350 and they are no where near the same quality. I just have to say WOW.

I will never own a Mercedes or BMW... the GS 430 is the car everyone that want to experience luxury with power should own. I still have the first generation lexus GS 300 which is a wonderful automobile. But the GS 430 is the top of the line of the lexus fleet when you incorporate HP with luxury do not and I mean do not think getting the GS 300 will give you the same expeirence. It is worth the money if you know what I mean. Gotta love it!!

Traded in my BMW 328CI because of miles and needed a bigger car. Pound per pound this car is the best value, true keyless entry, great nav, all the creature favorites that you need. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is not that fun to drive. The sport mode is to stiff and artifical, the increased power mode is still not that strong. The acceleration at high spead is not there. The trunk is small and the wheel wells get in the way, you can't put two large suitcases in the back.

Lexus tried to design a sports sedan but went overboard with this one. The ride is too harsh for a sedan that every bump on the road can be felt and the road noise is not tolerable for a lexury brand. I also own two pure sports cars. When I drive a sedan, I do not want to feel like driving a wannabe sports car. The adjustable suspension does not work at all. The soft and hard setting feel the same. The interior rattles and squeaks either due to high-power stereo or improper design of the interior panels. My previous 2000 GS 400 was a better-built car even though it did not have as much gadgets as this one but I could enjoy a quiet and comfortable ride when I choose to.

I had a '99 GS 400 that i drove for 212,000 miles and now my son drives it. This new GS 430 is even more fun to drive. The six speed transmission along with the engine management systems make it a dream. It is the best blend of performance and comfort i have found on the market. I know some sedans have more "feel" but I am impressed with how the car lets me truely enjoy the road but keeps me comfortable enough for long trips. The Levinson sound system is truely the best I have heard in any car.I am completely satisifed so far in the first 8,000 miles , yes that is right i already have over 8,000 miles on the car.

I drive a lot of highway type driving and I get up to and including 30mpg more often than not. I have a GS 430 and the only concern is sometimes I get noise from the wheels on certain type of road surfaces. But since this car is a performance vehicle that is not a real problem.

Keep in mind I only have 160 miles on this car. Nice styling and pretty nice inside. I have these run flat tires. Shame on me, that I did not know they only last for a bout 15,000 miles and the cost 389 each to replace. But I am FRUSTRATED and would have them take the car back if I could. The tires go bump bump due to a flat spot they say is from being on the boat and will take 1,000 miles to smooth out. Why shoul I have to wait a 1,000 miles, after paying 58,000. I only want round tires. They tell me they will try to figure out what to do, but to me just give me a new set. Pretty simple. Also a few rattles here and there when going over a rough road.

I have had my “06” GS 430 for nearly two weeks. Our other car is an “03” LS and the new GS is nearly as smooth and quiet. The GS 430 has plenty of power and hugs the road. The cabin is intimate and comfortable you can feel the quality. Electronics are state of the art and the surround sound is awsome, the nav. intuitive and the interior lighting cool. Many features can be programed to the owners preferences. No car is perfect, the blue tooth isn't perfected yet, but it works. If you require loads of trunk space this is not the car for you and if you are tall you should check out the head room. This car may not be best in class in every catigory, but overall it's a winner.

Before I leased this car, I had the older generation GS 430. I thought nothing would top it in terms of performance and driving enjoyment. However, I was wrong. The 2006 GS 430 is even more fun to drive with tighter steering, better acceleration, and STEPTRONIC!!! I was deciding in the end between getting the GS 430, the Mercedes E500, and the BMW 545i. I am very happy to have chosen the GS as it is the king of the midsize luxury sedan class.

DRIVING AND HANDLING: The acceleration, handling and smooth shifting are very helpful for stable control over winding roads and in fast traffic. I drove over the Santa Cruz mountains yesterday and had a blast. The handling was superb and the car was able to accelerate effortlessly passing traffic. The brakes are a bit "grabby" and the accelerator is a bit stiff. Maybe they soften with use. The stiffer suspension button is also useful. INTERIOR: Road noise is low and comfortable. The steering wheel rim diameter has been increased for a sportier feel. The cool air seat pump, bluetooth and keyless entry are nice additions. GPS is a must for big cities. Triptronic shifting is fun.

WAY Better than the E500

Just traded my 2003 E500 for the GS430. NO Comparison. The Lexus performs as good as the E500, unless you are "throwing it around", which I stopped doing ages ago. The technology, build quality & reliability makes this a clear choice over the E-Class. This is a great looking, great performing, tech-laden car that looks great and is a blast to drive. Put aside the preconceived notions about European and Japanese cars (I know that's hard as I HATED parting with my Benz), drive a loaded GS430 and an E500 and you'll buy the Lexus. Especially when you realize that alhough these the cars are in the same class, a comparably equiped E500 will cost you a LOT more, & it won't be NEAR as reliable.

Lexus GS 430 - Best in Class

The Lexus GS 430 is not a driver's car, though you can chuck it around at speed. VDIM prevents you acting like a lunatic!!! Rather it is more a gentleman's car, with all you will ever want from a quality automobile. It has speed, reliability and quality with superb finish. This car can be called the "computer car" as it has more computers onboard than some countries!!!! Take my word for it and give it a trial run - you will be very surprised.
