Used 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4dr SUV 4WD Consumer Reviews
Real SUV
I purchased my Cherokee with 42000 miles on it. except for few minor annoyances such as transfer case lever that vibrates now and again, an exaust system that vibrates a little on start up on cold days and a minor recall this vehicle has been very reliable. This is the real deal, not a car with 4WD so expect more of truck like experience. I wish jeep had up dated the cherokee in the same vein as the Grand Cherokee; by keeping the solid front axle etc.
Cherokee the 1
This is a very reliable vehicle. Only complaint I have is a noisy exhaust because of vibration from hardened rubber rings in between pipes. It doesn't ride like a Caddy but if you really need to get there it will take you there though sunshine pouring in the moonroof or plowing though a foot of snow! No breakdown or problems yet as of 85,000 miles.

Overall, we're pretty happy with our Jeep. Here are a few items which needed to be improved on the model: (1) there was a piece of trim over the right rear windows which came off in a car wash; (2) there are no rear headrests for kids too big for baby/toddler seats; (3) the vehicle isn't as manueverable in tight spots as our '89 Bronco II (oddly enough).
my ride
It's defenitely a step down from my explorer in comfort/size. However I get better milage and better performance. It handles dirt roads at fast speeds and in 2-wheel-drive mode it can smoke the tires. Responsive accelerator, not the best braking. Very small in the back compared to a Ford Explorer. My roomate who is 6'5" hates it because it is too small. The ladies love it.
Still going and going
This baby has never let me down. It even ran on little transmission fluid not once but twice. Two great stories. No major difficulties. I have kept the maintenance well and she has never let me down. Multiple trips from DC area to Buffalo in winter and no concerns. Great off road ability not like todays small SUV's (overgrown station wagons) A great reliable vehicle, I'm glad I get to keep it and am upset I have to get a commuter car to save on gas. New brakes at 52000 miles, now have over 117k and no problems, still has original shocks, which do need replaced by now. otherwise, it keeps going. wish new jeeps were this reliable bring back the 4.0 or the equivalent diesel.
