My 2009 Santa Fe had a major engine failure after 10 days (400K). The repair took 5 days. My request for a replacement vehicle was declined even though I was led to believe that this would be the case. In the meantime, one tail-light has water in it, the driver door vibrates and clicks, the fuel consumption is now 17 litres per 100K and the seats are terrible.
Costly repairs at relatively low milage
Bought this car at around 60k miles. Now at 88k miles and it has needed the following: new suspension, steering shaft, control arms, ball joints, brakes, tires, and fuel gauge (fuel gauge issues are common for this model) I can't keep up with the constant repairs and I am in search of a new car. It's a shame because I love how the car drives. It is smooth on the road and does not cause me motion sickness like other SUVs.

Not Great
Purchased at 60k miles. Between 60k and 80k miles I've had to replace the fuel gauge, brakes, steering shaft, control arms and ball joints. I'm looking for a new car now because of all the issues I've experienced with the '09 Santa Fe.
Somethings Strange.
The TPMS light comes on from time to time then goes away. Check engine light came on and when I hooked a scanner to it it turned off. Vibrates pretty bad on the highway. Acceleration is great, transmission is smooth, ride is pretty smooth, and seems pretty safe. My biggest complaint is the gas gauge, one day I had a full tank and the next morning it said I was out of gas with the low fuel light on. Shut off the car and turned it back on and it said I had a full tank. It seems like some times it doesn’t read right. My speakers are weird. One day the front one sounded like it blew the next day it was a rear one. Some times they work fine and some times they don’t, some times they sound horrible above 10 and some times they are fine. Also I don’t like that it’s so expensive to get a new key fob and have it programmed. Also I have pressed the door buttons for my interior lights but they don’t seem to come on. Also another problem is the drivers side back rest, it will lay all the way flat but it has a hard time coming back up and you have to get out of the seat. I have owned this car a month and put 3,000 miles on it and so far I’m not impressed and I don’t feel the safest in it. The front end some times makes a weird noise when I turn the wheel and it will shake when driving and pull towards the passenger side but the dealership said nothing was wrong with it. I’m extremely glad I bought a warranty for it that’s bumper to bumper.

Very Pleased
We really like our Santa Fe. It's our "family car" in Colorado. It seemed to be bigger than the CRX or RAV but smaller than the Explorer and comparable models. Nice size then, not too big, not too small. Gas mileage not too bad at 19.5 overall, mostly in the city, in Colorado. AWD drives like a tank in the snow on original tires. Won't be changing to snow tires in the winter anymore, yippee. Very quiet, smooth ride. Not really a sporty ride, but works well for me, I was hoping for a smoother, cruiser feel in the family car. Great price for a pretty good looking car that's already got crumbs, shoe marks and general family use. We are very happy with the purchase.
