UpDate on the MPG's
I have hit the 31.4 MPG's again. I have gone 323.9 miles, using 10.3 Gallons. I have also done more city driving in the last half tank. I have now 1274 miles on the Elantra. Now on this tank I will not use the ECO. I will see what difference it will make on the MPG's. So at this point, have not improved on the MPG's, But I am very pleased that i am getting better than 30 MPG's. You should know, that I live in Albuquerque New Mexico. If anybody Knows the terrain, Abq is not flat by any means, and is 5000 Feet above see level at the lowest point. So driving around, its up and down constantly. Traffic can be bad, but not as bad as most larger cities, Next will be a road trip. Will update.

Great value
This is an excellent car for the money and shows just how far the economy game has advanced. It is not a sporty car to drive nor is it a smooth luxury ride but it does exactly what it is meant to do and that is to be an excellent commuter car. It is spacious, comfortable, cheap to buy, has features like XM and heated seats that are wonderful on the commute, and gets solid gas mileage. The interior and exterior styling are excellent. Reliability is something that is still tough to determine. Through 25,000 miles it has been good mechanically but there was an issue with a sunroof leak. Overall it has been a good choice and made a lot more sense than spending more on a Civic that had less stuff
So far, so good.
I bought this Elantra over 2 years ago and have about 47k miles on it now. I have not experienced any of the mechanical or noise problems described in other reviews. The original tires were bad (noisy) and I replaced them after 40K. As far as gas mileage, I have found that there is a huge discrepancy in mileage depending on many factors: speed, outside temperature, wind, vehicle load. and terrain. I have found that headwinds or sidewinds will affect mpg up to 5 or 6. I probably average 35 mpg hwy and 28-30 city. Under optimum conditions I have consistently achieved 36-38 hwy. Would I buy another Hyundai? Maybe. Next time I'll go into something a little bigger. I am over 6'.
Best value for the buck
I get 38 mpg easily on highway but if you drive like maniac with aggresive driving style with frequent rapid acceleration then don't expect high fuel economy. I easily 32 in the city but then my commute to work is very small and most of the time car sits on Metra train parking lot.I do have one disappointment, the leather on the steering wheel is coming off and I have made a claim but looks like Hyundai is still working on a permanent solution and has told me that I will be contacted once the new steering wheel is shipped to the dealer for installation. Otherwise a superb car for the price. Kudos to Hyundai for learning from their mistakes to build a amazing machine.
