So Far I Love This Car!!!
We just purchased a 2012 Elantra GLS with pref pkg. I down sized from my favorite vehicle, which was a Chevy Traverse, which I loved but needed better fuel mileage. I love the way this car drives and the seats are extremely comfortable. My 6'0 husband can sit in the back with no problem at all. My only complaint so far are that the headlights are not auto so I have to remind myself to turn them on, I am not use to that. I only have around 300 miles on the car so far and I am averaging 34 mpg with mixed driving. I am very happy with that and hope it stays or gets better.
Excellent Value!
I have owned 8 cars so far in my lifetime, and this one is #1. The quality of materials is outstanding for this model type and the performance IS as advertised. I am currently getting exactly 33.1 mpg, and I drive about 50/50 city and highway. If I drive solely Highway, I get 38 mpg. This car also handles very vell. It takes turns more like a sports car than a compact. By the way, I used to drive a Nissan 300 with twin turbo's, so yes, I do know how a sportscar should handle. All-in-all, I say that if you buy this car, I can guarantee that you will get the best value for your buck. Enjoy, and happy driving!

Almost to 100K and problems have started
I love my car. I have had it for 3 years and never had any issues. Gas milage is awesome and I get money reimbursed to me every time I take it in for an oil change - win win for me. BUT around 87,000 the car started to stall on me when I stopped. Check engine light came on so I took it to my mechanic. He said when hooked up to a computer it says "needs new engine". So I get it towed to Hyundai. They replace an oil senor valve (covered under extended warranty) and it ran fine for about 1500 miles. Then it started to stall again. I took it back immediately and now it is giving 2 codes and one of them is replace the engine. Now I am getting "I am not sure if Hyundai will cover this"!
Best New Car
I bought this car for my wife and we've been very pleased. We've driven over 23,000 miles on our 2012 Elantra Limited are averaging a consistent 37mpg during routine weekly driving in Eco mode. When it was new and with Eco mode turned off the worst tank average was 29mpg. Since the 10,000 mile mark the worst we've seen is 31-34mpg while driving around Atlanta traffic. When driving on the highway the first tank full averages 39mpg, and every tank afterwards averages 45-47mpg. We travel with 2-3 passengers and about 100lbs of luggage.
Great Commuter
Overall, this is a great car to own. Purchase price was below other vehicles ($18,100), the warranty is the best in the industry, and maintenance costs should be low. Hyundai uses a timing chain rather than a belt, so there will be no replacement needed every 60k miles like a Honda. Hyundai also has a sealed transmission that will never need to be flushed or have fluid replaced. The owner's manual also recommends changing the oil only every 7,500 miles under normal driving. Fuel efficiency has ranged from 37-39 mpg at freeway speeds in good weather, and 33-37 mpg in cold weather.
