Used 2000 Ford Explorer Consumer Reviews
Faulty power windows and locks
I've owned 2 Explorers over the last 15 years and both Explorer's power window and door lock motors burned out in both! Not a coincidence. There is definitely something wrong with the way these are built. I like the Explorer and would keep purchasing them if that problem was resolved. i don't trust Ford to get that right.
Bad Mileage "Gas waister"
I read the specs on this car and suppose to give you 16mpg city and 21mpg hwy. But every time I fill the tank I reset the odometer and I always get only about 10mpg city. If some one had the same problem I like to know how to fix it. Carlos

2000 ford explorer eddie bauer
I love the ford exlorer. Plenty of room and luxury ride. BUT! Their transmissions issues need to be resolved! I had a 1997 that I had to replace the transmission and my current 2000 has had its transmission replaced. If not for this very expensive repair issue this vehicle would be the Perfect mid sized suv. My 2000 has over 300,000 miles and is still on the road getting me where I need to go. It took me from the east coast to the west coast last year over 6000 miles and the ac went out. I love these suvs and am going to get my next one soon. I hope this time I will get the cherry without the pitfall of a lemon transmission. Roll of the dice I guess.

Explorers Forever
I now own a 2000 Ford explorer with 124,000 miles on it. I purchased it new and have followed the Ford recommended services. It has been very dependable in rain, ice, and snow conditions. I never drive it off road. Repairs have been required due to normal wear and tear only. I intend to keep it for at least another 5-years or 50,000 miles. This is my second Explorer and I would recommend it to anyone interested in an SUV.
Rock Solid
I drove my 2000 Explorer from 140,000 to 201,000 km. It was so reliable. Always started, never got stuck and never in the shop (except for routine maintenance--oil changes, brakes etc). Before I replaced it, it began leaking a bit of oil and the fuel sensor gauge began malfunctioning, but it still drove like a dream. It was an awesome car with lots of utility--it could carry whatever you needed, through whatever conditioned you faced (I live in Canada). This car provided me with excellent value and should be very reliable if you take care of it.
