Second CMAX Energi - Love IT
I now have a 2017 and I had a 2014 CMAX Energi Titanium and SEL, respectively. I am getting 60 plus mpg with 70% highway and non local trips. I save the EV for stop and start situations and generally match the speed limit. Comfortable interior, great visibility and great handling. Quiet car for a wagon like vehicle. Despite the loss of cargo space due to the larger battery pack vs .regular CMAX, I get a lot of furniture, goods and material into the car with the rear seat laying down. The loading area is not flat but I can put many things in thru the rear hatch and place them on the rear seat area, plus fill the nooks and crannies with loads of treasures. Only downside is that the Ford Navigation System is woeful in so many ways compared to my friends vehicles. Rarely can I use the factory navigation and I resort to my smart phone for directions and maps. I put 45,000 trouble free miles on my 2014 CMax Energi and now have 25,000 miles on my 2017. Minor warranty issues in first 5,000 miles otherwise smooth sailing. I am planning to buy my 2017 at lease end in 2020 as it is such a nice vehicle for me in every way and I feel very ecologically positive charging at night and at power company sites plus I get great gas mileage.
Get one while they last!
I just bought a C-MAX Energi and compared it to a 2017 Prius V and drove a 2013 Prius before. I never thought that I would even think about "fun" when driving a car until I drove the Prius V and realized what I was missing, it dives like a van and acceleration is non-existant. The C-Max is very different, it can drive it like my 200hp Passat, then the milage drops considerably but there is also the option to drive it more carefully and Ford has integrated a lot of tools to monitor efficiency with to get very good mpg. For me it's the perfect compromise of both worlds, although the mpg is somewhat lower than a Prius. Interior quality is much better than a Prius V and the regular Prius's outside is just hideous, IMO. - The plug-in Energi will be discontinued in 2018 and eventually be replaced by an Escape version (according to Ford). Currently the price for the C-Max Energi are below the regular hybrid after the tax deduction. The price will be largely influenced by the extras since the discounts are not applied on these. I decided I needed heated seats (cold weather package $300) and the reversing sensors and camera with bigger screen (package 401A $1200) you can get both and leather seats with package 402A ($1600). I stayed away from the Navigation which is another $800 since this is included in every phone and thus useless since the C-Max support both apple carplay and android auto.

A real sleeper...
...is a vehicle that delivers more than the promised by the looks or the name. It's the driver's little secret. That's my 2017 C-Max Energi, an overachiever. Let's get this out front- for the first 16 months and 20,000 miles, it's recorded 65 mpg, not counting the 74 cents of shore power I've fed it every night. Plug-in hybrid mileage varies enormously by usage; I'm met owners claiming 200 MPG, but they're using another car for every long trip. You can squeeze out about 7,500 miles of EV driving per year, but that's not my style. This is my only car, and every week I take several long drives of 100-200 miles. Typically a tank of gas lasts 650 miles or so. So it's an excellent Economy Car- but it's also a great highway cruiser, quiet, stable, comfortable, well equipped. And, if you care to, you can go 0-60 in under eight seconds. It's not a truck, a van or an SUV, but it does the job of "car" better than any other I've owned. My net cost was about $20k, after $9000 of Federal and state tax credits- that's one factor that leads to a low resale value. 45,000 mile update- with 3 1/2 years under its belt, the C-Max is still running strong. The only issue i'm having is a balky infotainment unit. It's sometimes slow to respond to touch commands, and the bluetooth connection to my phone is now unreliable. I plug my phone into the car's USB outlet as a workaround, and this also charges the phone while I drive. My OEM Michelin energy saver tires lasted 40k miles. I replaced them with Michelin Primacy runflat tires, and my overall fuel consumption dropped to 60 mpg. Well worth it, I think, for that added assurance (the C-Max has no spare tire), plus better adhesion to the road. I enjoy driving this car so much that I have no idea what could replace it.

After 5 Prius and one Camry Hybrid ,CMax disappoin
Incredibly surprised by this car. It could be because we've had Three Siennas (Great BTW) 5 Prius's or Prii, not sure don't have an issue with ambiguous plural for Prius, and a 15 year old Thread with over 200k on it that we were so hesitant conceive let alone buy a non-Toyota. That changed dramatically when we took this CMax for a drive and the transmission changeover from Electric to gas is almost imperceptible. The car handles really well and the Sync system and dash electronics really sealed the deal. Granted we only have 5800 miles on it and it was a New Car despite being a model year old, we really are completely satisfied with this car. For some reason getting in and out is easier than the others and the noise levels at highway speeds are really much quieter than were used to. We read all about the horrors of Sync and really worried about that as well. Whatever version ofnSync is in our 2017, it is by far among the best we've used. Combined gas-electric MPG is 69.2 and we do drive it in EV Priority mode around most days. We really could not have both been so shocked at our satisfaction with our purchase. Don't get me wrong, we still have two Prius's spin the family as college cars, but We would not hesitate in recommending a CMax to someone in this category. Maybe we need counseling?????

Great car for tall people
This is not a Volt. A Volt has a bigger battery and we can go all summer on about 5 gallons of gas. Energi has a much smaller HV battery and that’s ok. I think the theory is you can drive an Energi about 70% of the time on electric. Very good road car. Engine and cabin are very quiet on highway. Great headroom. Only have 7000 miles on it so no problems so far. Nice tight car. I’d buy it again.
