Had a new Pontiac (terrible car!) My next purchase I decided to try the Intrepid, which caught my eye, and had good reviews. Had it for seven years and I'm pleased! A great car for the money (paid $18,300). Drove it on a number of long road trips to a number of states in the west and in the south Last year put on 7,900 miles in just under four weeks! Roomy, comfy, totally reliable-esp. in the mountains-got 28- 31 mpg during the that trip! Great for a big car! Everyone that owns one loves it and have no problems. One minor problem with mine in 7 years! Dodge needs to bring back the the Intrepid. I'll buy another Dodge because of it! And I use to dislike Dodge! Not anymore!

Bought a 2000 base model. Had to have the front rotors changed at 30K. Dealership said they were warpped. Most of the mileage has been hiway so the rotors never got that hot. Dealer wanted to cut them as if that would help. Dealer told me they see it all the time in these cars. Car was still under warranty at the time however found out brake system is only covered for first 12k. Had the dealer look for shimmey and grinding noise and they never found anything. It's still there off and on. Now the sending unit for the gas tank level is going bad. For 20K this car should be better. Not long before it goes away in a trade.

Nothing but trouble

This car has been one huge disapointment. Chrysler has ignored my complaints about costly major repairs than began a few miles after the warranty expired. I replaced the rack and pinion system right after the warranty was up. It has mysterious front end clunks that nobody can explain. I've replaced tensioners in the drive chain. The electronic door lock on the passenger side is squealing loudly. I've already replaced the rear lock actuator. The seals around all the doors droop and fall down often. I also get a lot of water under my feet that soaks the mats but don't know where its coming from. My seat frames are now rusting.

Bought this car used in July of '05 with 90,000 miles. Looked sharp, interior was good. Engine was a disaster. Oil pressure sending unit was bad, engine burned oil (1 qt. every 1000 miles), had to do extensive engine work 3 months later, and now a valve has blown, throwing off timing and other things. No longer driveable; getting a salvage/rebuilt engine for these cars is difficult to the apparent very high demand for replacement engines. Expensive, too. It looks pretty, but I can get lawn ornaments for much cheaper somewhere else. It died at almost 116000, but from what I hear, that's pretty long-lived for an Intrepid.

Right rear door actuator went at 39,000 miles Drivers side door actuator went at 42,000 then a week later the check engine light and two weeks later the starter went at 43,000 I am the original owner and the mileage is all highway .What a shame that this car is falling apart on it's own.
