Look, I am a large guy and a family man. I fit behind the wheel easily and find the seats comfortable. Leg room in the back seat is tight, but hey... That's where my kids sit. I bought a compact SUV for goodness sake and I know it. To be fair, I just bought this car with 8 miles on it a few days ago and so have been "playing" in it. I am not sure what kind of acceleration people are looking for or why in God's name they think they need to get to 60mph in under 4 seconds. Go get a porche if that's your thing. So, here is my experience and opinion so far. Pros: for a SMALL SUV, this vehicle makes use of every inch. Like I said, I am a big guy, the seat belt fits fine, the seat doesn't hit pressure points that cause me to ache when driving 2+hrs. There is storage cubbies all over the interior, though I do not understand the space between the seats having 4 cup holders and then 2 more in the back seat arm rest. I wish instead of having the four up front, they would have done the two with a combined middle arm rest with storage bin inside that... but hey, you adjust! Tech inside is very nice. The info system is easy to connect to your phone. I have read previous people complaining about losing blue tooth connection, but my phone connects from 50 feet away and doesn't ever drop, to date. The sound system is crisp as is the mic for the calling aspect. The car handles like a dream. You are listening to a past pizza delivery guy. This little bugger has a tight turn radius (able to do a U turn in a 2 lane road without touching the curb). When starting from 0, I can get to 60 mph in under 7 seconds. So again, don't understand the complaining about power in this vehicle. At 60 MPH, I floored the gas and kicked the turbo enine in to hit 70 MPH in under another 3 seconds. Not bad if your looking to pass that semi. The AWD holds the road fine in snow and ice, as this Montana guy can atest. Storgae space? Again, if your trying to haul wood on a regular basis or have need of that pole vault pole all the time... why are you looking at a compact SUV? Get that hummer you had your eye on... There is ample head room for those over 6 ft, like myself. Plenty of room for groceries without folding the seats down. If you need to haul two large beasts, like my mastiff and lab/shep mix, they both fit comfortably with the seats folded down. It is also nice that the front passenger seat can fold as flat as the back seats for even more cargo space (so hey... you could haul some lengths of wood around). The controls for the heat/AC and defrost are easy to reach and super simple to use. I love how this SUV hugs the road... Years ago i used to own the Geo Tracker, and this little thing reminds me of it except not being so top heavy... and looking more stylish. Gee... wonder if the Trax is the upgraded Tracker... HMMM? The last myth I want to shut down is... road noise. This car has as much road noise as a RAV or CRV... I know as I have owned both. It is not as quiet as a Lexus or BMW, but hey... you are laying out $20k, not $40. Now for the Cons: The LS model does NOT come with cruise control. I can drive with my foot on the pedal comfortably for about 4hrs. So if you are going on a long haul? I suggest you upgrade to LT package. Visibility is good in this vehicle. If you want to know what rough rear visibility is, take a drive in a Rogue and do some backing maneuvers using that back window. The reason I am putting visibility in the negative is three fold: 1) I personally prefer having window tinting... but again I believe this is an LT feature; 2) The headlights feel weak to me. Again, as having delivered pizzas... these lights just are not bright enough on the stock to see numbers on mailboxes without driving right up on the mailbox (I will be replacing these very soon) 3: The windsheild wipers that come stock... they are just bad. I mean these are $10 blades, if that. They will remove water ok, probably for about a month... but snow or sleet... it takes a pass or two to clear it (another item that I will be replacing quickly). My average MPG is hitting at about 25, but remember, i live in the mountains and interstate travel has been done, but not serious... so for an AWD, this is not bad for in the city. I will update this in about 6 months. Update: So here I am with 5k miles on the car. A couple of issues have popped up that the dealership took care of without complaint: 1) one of the roof top weather strips came off in a car wash. Per the tech, this is common with the Trax and when repaired they use extra clips and bonding glue. No problem since. 2) The AC barely worked... this was not an issue with the car, but a failure at the plant. they put enough coolant in to test the system to ensure no leaks, then once the test was passed forgot to top off the unit. The car still handles great and is fun to drive. needs a little more storage space and oomph on take off.

Love My Chev Trax!

I love the size, comfort, affordability, high safety rating, and overall performance of my new Chev Trax! My previous car was a Chev Trax; I had an accident that totaled that car, but the airbags and seatbelts kept me safe so I had no internal injuries (just bruises from the belts). I felt it kept me from sustaining more injuries.

Blown Rear Seal after 6 months

I have looked to see if others have the same problem I am experiencing right now and have found that this problem has been found with the older equinox. I have had the car for about 7 months now and the car has 11,000 miles on it. Bought it with just under 3,000 so i have put on about 8,000 miles. Drove the car to work as usual and noticed a burning smell. When I left work, the same smell....no warning lights came on so was not sure what the smell was from. When I got home I found a large pile of oil bigger than the size of a tire. I called the dealership and had to have the car towed. They blamed the problem on the polar vortex, however, I do not believe them. There was another Trax there with the same problem which makes me think something is not right. They informed me the rear seal blew and needed to be replaced. As I am under contract there will be no cost to me. This care is mainly brand new and blows a seal. I am not satisfied with their reasoning and will be looking into further. Not a happy camper and will most certainly not purchase the car once my lease is up...now I am worried about what kind of engine problems I will be having from here on out.

very happy with this car! we were trading in a kia soul that we loved and has been very good to us. we were looking specifically for a trax or a buick encore. after looking at several of both we chose the trax in cajun red. the trax is a better bargain. theres not much difference in the trax and the encore..not enuff to pay all that extra. and i disagree about the acceleration. who ever says that dont kno w how to drive! i leave people at the stoplights in my dust on the regular😂

This car is perfect. Held everything we needed to go on a camping trip 8 hours away. (including gear in cargo basket on roof) Handles well on the highway. Averaging 27 combined mileage. Turns around on a dime. We had talked about getting a larger vehicle when the time comes, but we have now decided to stay with the Trax. This is the perfect car for 2 and with average 31 to the gallon on the highway we are happy. Only con we have is the tires the car was built with don't last. Replaced at 15,000. I've seen some reviews where people were complaining about power. I am quite satisfied with this small suv. You want power, but a vet. lol 34K now and not a single complaint. 42K and going strong. No complaints. Love this small SUV. Set the cruise control and sit back and relax. The car maintains speed quite well.

I was in an accident that ended up totalling my Trax, and I walked out of the car. Upset that my first real car was now in shambles in the middle of the road. The crumple zones worked. The engine leaked everything into the road and all the airbags went off but when the door opened and I talked about it, they couldn't believe I wasn hurt. Even before the accident, I got great gas mileage and had plenty of room for passengers and groceries. Now I wish I didn't have an accident testimonial.

THE WORST PURCHASE I HAVE MADE

I purchased a 2018 Trax in August, 2019. Within the 1st week of owning it I stated having problems. The TAC and fuel gauge have never worked. Since this issue, in the last year I have had the turbo replaced, the radio/dash replaced twice and the radio and dash will still go black when driving the car, they have installed a cold weather package because the car would not heat, this past Winter, I started my car to let it warm up and came out to it smoking like it was on fire and it had no power, supposedly there was a ball of ice in the turbo, how does that happen, it was never explained to me, the brakes have failed and for it being an AWD, I feel like a feather in front on a fan!! The first few times with the trouble I was offered by Chevrolet an extended warranty on a car that I DO NOT WANT nor Trust, now they are telling me that if I want to do a buy-back, I have to have the car in for the same issue 3 or more times. For the love of God, this is a new car and I should not have to have problems like this nor have to feel unsafe driving the car wondering what is going to happen next!!

I purchased my 2018 Trax at Simpson Chevrolet in Irvine ,California with 2 miles .What a fun little car, its comfortable to my 6,4 ' frame. Being from Germany I like a car with some pep. The gentleman from Edmunds stated the Trax is sluggish, I suggest he learn to drive. True the 1.4 liter engine has 140HP cupelled with a turbo charger and a 6speed transmission, which can be manual or automatic. The Turbo has a small delay, but then comes on like gangbusters. My friend has an Audi A4 and I upset him when I drove Away from him in City traffic and the again an the freeway. the Trax is very agile and if you keep a little RPM up the drive becomes an Fahr Vergnugen.(Pleasure to drive) Also I'm getting 21 in the city and 32on the HWY. Well even my wife loves the car.

I purchased a 2018 Chevy tracks redline addition with 184 miles on it. It was in the shop for 6+ weeks for transmission issue that was covered under warranty missing a part coming out of the factory. It was in the shop so long GM actually reimbursed me for two of the payments that I made. The windshield seal leaked and ended up with a puddle of water in my floorboard they had to replace that. There was one recall about some welds that we’re not done in the factory. There is wind noise on the back right passenger door they replaced the stripping and it still makes the noise. Now with 42,000 miles the transmission is acting up now in the shop to determine what the problem is and it’s probably not covered under the powertrain warranty which is up to 60,000 miles. Currently looking to get rid of this car. Not sure where I will be if it last to 60,000. Do your homework, read reviews. Overall I would not highly rate this vehicle.

I purchased a 2018 Trax with 8,000 miles. The dash went black several times along with the display on the radio. While I was driving down the interstate, the car made a clicking sound and the dash and radio went completely black and then all the lights came on and the odometer bounced from 0 to 60. I had zero heat. Like no heat. I called the dealership and the service department stated they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. I landed up trading it in.

I agree with whoever wrote the "Just bought and will update as time goes on" review. Those that poo-poo the car either haven't been one for very long or are just out-there (I'm looking at YOU Edmunds so-called experts). I have the base model FWD and it will chirp the tires from a standing start. I don't know where they get this underpowered idea, I have been able to zip through traffic with ease and it has enough to pass semis on two-lane roads without blinking. If you actually do some research and analyse the options presented, the LT and Premium trim levels do not really add that much to the vehicle. It is a small SUV, for cryin out loud, if you want to haul bricks, ladders, half the grocery store or have a big family, get a USS Nimitz class Suburban or something of that ilk. The interior is a bit quirky, but does make use of the space nicely. It does have 4 cup holders in between the front seats. I like that because I can have more than one cup/bottle of whatever for long drives! I have had it for 42k miles or so and have had no issues. It has been avergaing 31.1 MPG (the dash says so). I wish those "experts" would actually drive the vehicle for more than half a second and when they do compare them, use the same type of vehicle to compare them to.

If I could give this a zero I would. My wife’s boss purchased this for a delivery vehicle for the bank they work at. So far it’s been in the shop 7 times it a 2018 with 53,000 miles. The largest of the breakdowns was a rear end module which was a $ 700. Repair and yesterday the ac compressor went out which is $ 1,200. This vehicle has never been abused and has always had regular maintenance. Unfortunately they did not purchase an extended warranty bc they usually trade it in every three years. Besides the two main repairs there have been electrical problems and steering problems all I will say if you purchase a Trax make dam sure you get an extended bumper to bumper warranty. Good luck.

I just totaled my 2011 Jetta TDI. My rental was a Hyundai Tuscon which was amazing but heavily priced over my budget. I got the Trax and i really enjoy it. It's definitely not the most glamorous thing but still amazing. The interior is great and the back up camera is very clear. The camera almost has a full 180 look behind you which is amazing during dark settings like a storm or night time. The touch screen interface is really nice as well. I can display my map for my GPS and my songs at the same time (carplay). My only complaint really is the fact that the seats sit high where the cup holders and stuff are considerably lower than you. That doesn't make sense unless you get into one of these, go look at a trax. You'll understand then. The base model doesn't include basic things like cruise control but its whatever. I guess the lower commoners don't deserve that level of luxury. All in all, this is a great car for the price and I heavily recommend it.

I purchased a fleet vehicle, 2018 chevy trax. It has all the bells and whistles. I fell in love with it. Within two weeks, the check engine light came on. I thought, not a problem still under warranty. A week later check engine light. I am on my third check engine light and just made my 1st car payment. Hmmmm. It's now 2024, I still have my Chevy Trax 2024. I just got it out of the shop for yet another check engine light. Yes, you guess it. It's the same sensor. Apparently, it's an on-going problem with these cars. Luckily, I purchased the extended warranty.

Bought this car ignoring some of the terrible reviews which was the worst decision I’ve ever made. This car pulls extremely bad to the right and has major steering issues. Ended up having to trade it in for a Buick Encore a month later, and thank god my dealership worked with me on the deal. Save yourself time and money and buy the Buick Encore instead.

Main problem which seems unrepairable by dealer is the onstar light will go to red for no apparent reason, then drains battery in hours. I have had the onstar unit and radio replaced and it still happens from time to time. Onstar is useless when trying to figure this out.

So yeah I have one of these Trax Redline and let me tell you something...stay far away. Horrible engine, transmission, seats, all noise and no go, can't fold the rear seats down and have anyone taller than 5'5" person sit up front. Gas milage is 17.4 mpg. Creaking and cracking noises in the interior and seats. Seat foam is caving and collapsed. My vehicle has 4600 miles on it and I'll be lucky to get 60000 miles on this car...the transmission has started to slip and shift rough, front windows crack when being put down and back up, my fancy Bose radio shuts off and doesn't come back on along with the rear camera, and OnStar. This is by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned and will be trading this POS ASAP!

I went into Phillips Chevy last week to replace my old car. I went in expecting the bare minimum- any car that would get me to my destination that wasn't horribly expensive, sold by someone that wanted me in and out. What I got instead was excellent customer service by everyone in there, and especially from Joe Luque and Walter. They worked with me tirelessly until I got the car that I was hoping for but never expected to get. They were helpful but not pushy, knowledgeable but not bossy, friendly but not overbearing. When this lease is up, I know exactly where I'm going for my next vehicle! Highly recommended

New Car Review

I like the car a lot. GM offer $2500 in rebates, plus another $1800 for first responders. The car has now only 695 miles. The gas mileage is a little disappointing . I am only getting 15.6 miles per gallon in the city. Also the materials and workmen ship was poorly out together.

Weak acceleration on this car. After only having it for 2 months the reduced engine power light came on which I was not happy about having a malfunction so early on. This is such a small complaint but I hate that I don’t have a center console haha 4 cup holders in the front but no center console. I previously had a Honda Accord and I felt like I had so much more room in the Honda than in the Trax.

Water pump at 35,000?

I like my wife’s 2018 trax but it seems a bit shoddy on the quality of materials and build of the car.. the part that gets me is the 35k miles the gas charcoal canister has a leak and needs replacing at $750 and now her water Pump took a dump at 35k miles and it’s going to cost us $1200 to replace.. it’s in a difficult spot for the mechanic to reach and remove.. I hope and pray that that’s the last of the 35k miles problems.

i had an accident in my 2018 Trax after complaining about the steering and getting no where. Is this a common problem? The steering is really sloppy, make a quick turn and let go of the wheel and it does a "wabba wabba" back and forth. So had an accident and it is in the shop waiting for parts. Since Sept. 6th, lets see it is Nov 29 today and they still can't get the parts.

The air conditioner overheats and puts steam fills inside the cabin, visor breaks easy, drives good tho, needs improvement manufactures made this car a money pit for profit don't buy.

Good on gas, quite ride, has pick-up when you need it. Idles very quietly" , at times, I think it's not running. Locations on dash are within arms length. Went from from explorer xlt. Like this just as well.

Loved for the first 60K miles!

I loved this car for two years -- it was a great little commuting car. Then after an inspection and oil change, things started to go wrong. There was a pop like I had hit something on the road, but it was a shortage under the hood. 1k spent to fix it. Happened again, went to the dealer and had a new computer system put in. Happened a third time, and then they told me the transmission needed repaired for 3K, and they wouldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen again. So I sold it back to the chevy dealer, without ever knowing the real issue. When I bought my new car, the subaru dealer said they wouldn't have even done a trade-in on Trax or Equinox because of how faulty they were.

Junk will never buy another Chevy product again. I’ve had the rear differential go on this vehicle, intercooler, and now I have no heat (hvac control module replaced, pigtail, 3 resistor chips, blower fan, and still doesn’t work.) absolute junk. Should’ve kept my Kia probably would’ve been better quality…

Horrible vehicle

I bought my Trax when it had 10,000 miles on it, believing that low mileage would ensure its reliability until I paid it off. Unfortunately, I was very mistaken. My vehicle was plagued with problems. Within the first year, the rear differential failed; thankfully, it was covered under warranty. After that, the AC stopped working, so I replaced the condenser and added Freon. Soon after, the car started to overheat. I replaced several hoses and the coolant reservoir, but it overheated again, which prompted me to replace the manifold. Following that, the heater stopped working, and eventually, the water pump failed. I also had to replace the battery twice, along with other routine maintenance. I was never in any accidents, but I was constantly worried that my car would break down at any moment. It was truly a terrible vehicle. Not to mention, the resale value was horrendous. By the time I traded it in, my car had only accumulated 83,000 miles over four years.

I really am in love with my 2018 Trax. The only thing I would change about it is give it a little more power and just a tad more cargo room. Other than that I am very happy with it.
