I was told I was buying it under bluebook its now worth less than 1/2 and its 4 years old. Began having problems with lights, engine speed lost on freeway and expensive repairs every year. Not worth it, I am told these are rental cars. I will stick with Honda or Subaru, something reliable. I will never buy a GM again.

TL,DR: Car does a good job balancing looks, performance, and economy. Great first vehicle. This generation of the Malibu was evidently designed with simplicity and practicality in mind. It doesn't have flashy features or technological gizmos, but it has a simple interior and modest but good-looking exterior that please the eye without unnecessarily turning heads. I've put 80,000 miles on my unit, and it's never had a major mechanical issue. I've put it through significant abuse no normal sedan should have to put up with: drove it at high speeds, powered through corners, raced up and down rocky national forest roads, and driven it through snow and ice, and it has handled everything magnificently. The car has good weight distribution and has a nice weight to the steering that provides a secure feeling on all terrains, even when I push the boundaries. I average 27mpg on my 26 mile commute to and from work everyday on the backroads, and though many cars could do better, I am extremely satisfied with the performance of this vehicle. There isn't a ton of cargo space in this car; that will most likely be the reason I upgrade to a pickup, since I like to haul lots of sporting equipment and metal around. However, this lack of storage space was put into the cabin, as there is a comfortable enough amount of legroom in the backseats that 4 people can comfortably fit. The fifth person will make it a bit more close and personal in the backseat, especially with having to put their legs on either side of the center console bump, but its definitely not a no-go. I have been very satisfied with the quality of the ride inside the car. It's fairly quiet, even though my unit was totaled at one point and the rear left door has a slight whistle, but it is definitely far quieter than my brothers' Honda Civics or Priuses). The ride is smoother, too, with the suspension doing a good job of absorbing the bumps in the road. When it comes to power, with a 10 second 0-60, this is no sports car, but it has the umph to pass vehicles at speed and it doesn't seem to have a top speed limit that I am comfortable reaching (112mph+). With only 4 gears, the transmission shift points are pretty distant from one another and seemed to be grouped pretty close in the bottom of the car's speed range. It can settle into 4th gear at 35mph and then have a bit of a delay when attempting to pass as it lugs down, shifts down, revs up, then accelerates. However, proactively shifting the gear selector lever to "I," whatever that means, will shift the car into a lower gear before you floor it to pass that puny little F350 or whatever, significantly reducing acceleration time. Overall, fun to drive and cheap to own and maintain!
