This has been the most reliable vehicle that I have owned. Gets about 15 mpg in town. Comfortable with plenty of interior space.

1998 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Series Work Truck 2dr Regular Cab SB (4.3L 6cyl naturally aspired 5M)

I bought this truck in 2018 after it had sat for 8 years. I charged the battery and it started right up. I’ve been driving it daily ever since. I run my contracting company out of it now. About 400-500 pounds of tools live in the bed at all times and it still gets 19 mpg day-in/day-out. Now has 190,000 miles on it and I have no intention of getting rid of it. I have had to replace the parts that had worn out from sitting and redo things like fluids, but it has still been an inexpensive truck to maintain. For a 1/2 ton truck this old it is just an absolute work horse. Yesterday I pulled three 1,100 pound bedloads of demo waste up an incredibly steep driveway and the truck was happy as could be. Brakes nice, steers nice, and pulls nice. I have the absolute bare bones, bench seat, manual, reg cab, crank windows, 2WD, no A/C, and I couldn’t ask for more from the thing. It loves to do it’s job. For anyone interested in the backstory: My dad bought the truck in 99 with about 15,000 on it. I grew up riding in the middle of the bench seat. Rode cross country in it. Learned to drive stick in it. Drove it in high school. In 2018 it was going to be brought to the junk yard because it had just been sitting for a few years. I decided to buy it and use it as a chance to learn how to do bodywork. I fixed up the body on weekends and drove it during the week. Now my dog, my girlfriend, and I love taking it to get our Christmas trees and go to the beach. I get offers on it in parking lots. This truck is sort of the end of the old boxy trucks, and you can feel the soul it has in it.

Overall this has been a good vehicle. The brakes are the main complaint. I usually get about 30,000 miles per set on the front. The rear linings are fine. The brakes have never felt that strong. The alternator failed at about 75,000 miles. The rear brake cylinders failed at 94,000 miles at a cost of $450.00 as well as the pitman and idler arms, another $400.00. For the most part I have enjoyed the truck. It has a comfortable ride and enough horsepower to handle most jobs. This truck would be ideal if not for the problems listed above.
