2002 what a difference
I was originally going to purchase the car in 2001, but held off for financial reasons. I recently purchased the car with audi of fairfield in CT. One of the most consumer friendly dealerships I have been to. The 3.0 was a little out of my price range but the 1.8t was perfect fully loaded with almost all the options of the 3.0 plus the quattro for 30K on the nose. New new styling is much better in the rear but still could use a tweak or two to make it more like the A6. Overall it looks great but the best part is the creature comforts audi gives you inside. Hands down the best interior out of any comprable car.
Quality control needs improvement
Replaced a 99.5 2.8 fwd a4 with the 2002 3.0 quattro. In all respects, from an engineering and driving standpoint, a better, more fun to drive car. But at delivery, and in the first few weeks, a number of quality control problems appeared, e.g. gritty paint, heated mirrors don't work, quirky climate control, sunroof rattle, defective key fob, faulty back seat latch, etc. Does not seem the car was properly checked before being shipped.

The ultimate in design and engineering.
I originally went to an Audi dealer to drive a TT and decided that it was not enough of a step up in size and comfort from my '99 Miata to justify a switch. I drove the A4 and was hooked. Two days later I picked up my Amulet Red 1.8T, 5 Speed with Sport Package, Sunroof, Xenon Lights & Bose Stereo. I am totally infatuated with my car! It is as sporty and as much fun to drive as the TT. The 5 speed shifts with ease, and with the exception of a slight turbo lag, I couldn't ask for more power. The fit and finish on this car is nearly flawless. Handling and performance could not be better. I have never been this enthusiastic about a car. It is precision "German Engineering" at it's best!
75k and still going
This is my second Audi (prev 4000CS) and am pleased with the way the car has performed. I first bought the auto in Seattle and had shipped to Europe (wanted US specs) and had it up to 128 mph. It drove flawless on the Autostrata! I purchased with the Phatbox and so I can enjoy my MP3s. The leatherette seats hold up better than the real leather seats my friend purchased with his Audi A4. Only big issue is that you must change the extended oil religeously with the turbo motor as it will cook the oil in the return pipe and cause the warning light to come on. It's a costly fix so beware. Overall the car is joy to drive when I can get away from my wife. Economical yet has power. Love it!
CVT
I've always wanted an automatic that performs like a manual, maximizes gas like a manual, drives smooth like a manual without having to shift! Well, this CVT has it. 0-60 and mpg equal that of the manual and I have two hands to drive.
