I agree with jayrider 100%. My wife drives a 2011 4WD Pilot, different truck, same gas mileage results... V6, 4WD, Hefty Curb Weight, AC running constantly with Climate control on Auto, heavy foot, & "city" driving don't exactly translate into stellar fuel economy numbers. I think on an average week if she doesn't take the truck on the highway at all, she gets 15 mpg. You've also got to wait for ... Read More
Probably not. Toyota is the Apple of the Auto Industry. Short on competitive features but solid reliability. Case in point: my 2011 Highlander. Competing models already have side mirror blinkers, blind spot monitoring, lines on the the backup camera, hands free parallel parking, and updated nav with 3d/birds eye view... The Highlander? NADA. Their message: Live with what we provide you with.
witha 2011, it may be covered by the 3 year b to b. toyota camrys and highlanders have window problems. it is a known fact. our 2002 hl, both rear window motors stopped working at the same time. used a aaa shop to make the repair. was expensive. however, in 125,000 miles and 11 years, those two windows were the only repairs EVER made! we now have a venza, hopefully we ... I recently bought a preowned 2011 highlander 4 cylinder (24k miles) with tech package. through 2 tanks of gas i'm averaging about 26-27 mpg. that is amazing for a suv this size. Imo toyota is sandbagging on the official mpg figures so the sales of their base 4 cyl models do not start taking away sales of their most expensive hybrid model.
This is just a "heads up" for anyone who has or is planning to install a trailer hitch from u haul. Mine was installed in dec 2011. Three weeks ago my check engine light came on. Thanks, about the only thing positive I can say about Toyo is that they haven't gone flat. One tire has 3 nails in it, and I know the other tires each have at least one nail in it. I have had this vehicle for 17 months, only a little over 12000 miles. But it is so disconcerting to see all those nails in the tire and wonder....at what inconvenient point will ... Read More

Honestly I've had our highlander from Aug of last year 2011 and my impression is that Toyota Needs to redo this suv on the 3rd gen coming soon. I wouldn't listen to wwest since he's only driven a HL in his imagination but loves bashing Toyota's AWD . HL's AWD performs pretty good on the snow as long as your tires are capable. I love "snow mode" button it really improves handling under heavy snow conditions. AWD will take about 2MPG more then FWD.
I am now having the same problem with my Iphone. Were you ever able to solve this problem?
I'd like to update some of the interior on my 2012 base highlander. I'd like to get leather seats and it seems like SE interior can be found on junk yards for less then katzkin leather would cost, plus I'd get power driver seat, lumbar support and heat (with SE dashboard). I know it's not new and katzkin is probably better, but I'd like to weigh pros and cons. I know ... Read More

:) Well thank goodness we finally finished the car buying process after much deliberation. We came somewhat close to choosing the Mazda CX-9. Anyway the 2012 Highlander won us over on many levels. judging by last year, Toyota annouced the 2011 model years in Late september so im guessing dealerships should start seeing 2012 models by October-November of this year. The beam pattern high level cutoff shading/apperture is built into the projector lens assembly so changing bulbs will be of little or no help.
I got such an amazing deal through carmax on the 2011 I skipped over the 2010. The toyota dealers wouldn't even dream of giving me monies on the MSRP but wanted me to take the 2010 for just a small discount. I will search for bulbs but if you fins some that are compatible shoot me a note on here as I will do the same.
I agree, I will try and change them out when something comes avaialble. Wish now, I would have bought the 2010. Not sure how well they will work at night when it is raining or when it is foggy.
I also have the same feeling about the headlights. Coming from an Acura it is almost blinding and I feel that I can not see anything. They are projector headlamps but still use halogen bulbs. The HL & RX hybrid designs are more about outstanding 0-60 times vs FE. Also, the Toyota HSD system does not do well for FE unless the majority of the time is city stop and go traffic. SOP... The new projector headlights, especially those with HID "bulbs", are so much better at controlling the beam pattern (forward lighting, not off to the side nor low) that the "visor" effect is required so as to not blind oncoming drivers.
Just bought my new 2011 Highlander and have driven it a few days. First time driving at night I found out the new headlights are a disappointment. On low beams the headlights have a visor effect. I generally like Toyota, but the new conventional engined Highlander is a disappointment. Only change to mediocre interior appears to be a split, but still minimally usable, 3rd row seat (now mandatory in all models).
