My son changed my oil in my 2005 Highlander, but I have forgotten how to get the light off. Can someone please tell me?
I had the same problem with my 2005 Highlander. Googled it and tons of people had the same issue. If you take it to Toyota they tell you they have to replace the whole board which costs about 1k. In actuality it is just that two of three wires coming to the control button has come undone because they are too short. You need to just have them resolder on the ... Read More
We used to have 2001 (got it in 2003, sold in 2005), now we have a 2007 (got it April 2011). I tell you, in terms of "look" and "feel", really not much different. Sure there are minor changes year to year but overall, pretty much the same unless you are going to detail. The "main" different between the one you mentioned really just the headlight and the rear parking light, ... Read More
Hi, I have a 2005 Toyota Highlander awd v6, and am having problems. Went to start car, and battery seemed dead. Didn't respond to a jump, and had the battery replaced. I can now start the car and get it to move, but can't get the rpms to go over 2 (essentially, won't accelerate). The radio, windows, thermometer all work, but can't get the car to really "go." Any thoughts?
I have a 2005 Highlander also altho not the Limited edition. It did not come with automatic door locks as you described. Maybe it was a feature that the previous owner didn't want?
Hi! We recently bought a 2005 Toyota Highlander V6 4WD Limited that came with the automatic door locks disabled (i.e., not locking the all the door locks when shifting out of park and not locking all the door locks when shifting into park). My Sienna and 4Runner both lock and unlock the doors when shifting in and out of park. I assume that this function was disabled by the previous owner. ... Read More
I recently put 4 new Mastercraft Touring tires on my 2005 Highlander. They come with a 80,000 warranty. The shop said that the Goodyear Integrity (what a name!) tires that the dealer put on 2 years ago were not good tires and definitely not as good as the ones I now have.
Yesterday I took my car to the Toyota dealer for regular service. They told me that I needed 4 new tires. Two years ago they replaced the original tires after 50K miles and 4 years . Now two years and about 28K miles later they need replacing. They showed me the front two tires that has some some bald tread. Because all 4 tires are affected, it is not an alignment ... Read More
I have a 2005 toyota highlander. Bought new. Now with 54,800 miles. Both rear wheel bearings went out Dec. 2010. Because I was over 60 months, warranty would not cover. Has anyone else had this problem. The service dept at Toyota was surprised at this .
Have you heard of Coastaltech's Lockpick?? It instals by plugging in between the original wiring and the Nav dvd player and allows you to enter destinations while the car is moving. Don't think twice, get it, it works. I had it on my 2005 Lexus RX330, and just bought a 2011 Highlander Hybrid LTD and plan to put one in. No more blockage and hassles from the "lawyers" at Toyota who ... Read More
TOYOTA IS USING THE CHEAPER TMD BRAKEPADS. I HAD IT REPLACE LAST YEAR AND SOON AFTER THAT MY 2005 HIGHLANDER STARTED SQUEAKING. LAST WEEK THEY HAD TO RESURFACE THE ROTAR. IS THIS NEW PAD ANY GOOD?
I think you need to squeeze a little more from them. In nov 2004, in bay area, I got a 2005 v6 base 2wd with 3rd row, driver power seat 27500 drive out, ($750 rebate applied), that is about $25K for the car. My experience: it is much easier to get a better price in bay area than in dallas area.
I smell another Toyota recall. Just found out that my 2005 Toyota Highlander needs to have the drive shaft replaced, after only 80,000 miles on the road— estimated cost to repair is $1200. I too have a 2005 Highlander and just recently replaced all four brake pads at 84,000 miles. I found that since they lasted me this long I was more then convinced to stay with Toyota parts. Besides, my total cost for having it done at the dealership was $200 less than what Les Swabb wanted to do the job.
There is definitely a safety margin that gives you several thousand miles of normal driving after you hear a brake wear sensor. If you are sure the brake pads are really down to a fraction of a millimeter and want the convenience of scheduling the brake job it might make sense to get the brakes attended to earlier. I replace the pads myself and always wait for a warning from a ... Read More

Hello Everyone! I have a 2005 Highlander Limited model. The control knob on the temperature selector is not functioning correctly. How can I go about replacing this part without having to go to a dealer? I am not having much luck in finding a replacement part. David
I will sell you my 2005 with the tow package. 3rd row seat, 70k miles, very nice. I have never towed anything with it, but have installed the Toyota hitch, only used for carrying bicycles.
Whichever one that has e-throttle "to protect the drive train".
Another common "operator error" cause is the floor mat getting in the way of the pedals. Such a problem recently resulted in a recall by Lexus/Toyota for certain Lexus and Camry models. It turned out that the all weather mats weren't properly secured so it really wasn't operator error. Absent an obvious mechanical failure, it can be difficult figuring out what the problem really is in these types of cases.

Toyota's cars seem to be on a 5-year schedule. The Camry, for example, was redesigned for the 2002 model year. The 2005 was the mid-cycle refresh and then a new model in 2007. Toyota's trucks and SUVs are on longer cycles. Take the 4Runner as an example. The 3rd generation lasted from 1996 to 2002, a total of 7 years. The first generation RAV4 also lasted 7 model years (OTOH, the ... Read More

I have a 2002 V6 AWD Highlander which I have been mostly happy with except that I recently needed to have all the brakes done at 46,000 including new rotors on the rear, which should be not expected. However, since I have been mostly happy with Toyotas and have owned several (with distaterous "buy American" attempts with a Taurus and a Jeep intersperced) we were looking to buy a 2004 Camry ... Hi I need some assistance. I have a 2005 Toyota Highlander but I do not have the manual. Yesterday a strange thing happened to me. A YELLOW Exclamation Point surrounded by parenthesis lit up on my dashboard. This “error” is located above the Heat/Temperature display in the dashboard, away from where the check Engine light comes up. Does anyone know what this means? I called a Toyota dealership and all I ... Read More
Yes, Toyota is lousy for some safety equipment. Most Highlanders can't be purchased with side airbags unless it's the expensive versions. Only thing I didn't like was auto tranny upshift to 2nd gear is based on rpm, not acceleration rate, something I also noticed in someone's old Accord.
I have posted previously in a different thread about my transmission problems in my (previously owned) 2005 Highlander. I had hesitation problems, with sometimes a surging following the hesitation. I thought this was bad enough, then when the vehicle was not quite a year old, a newer, awful thing happened to me! I put my foot on the brake while parking, and instead of the car stopping, there was a severe ... Read More
