I have a 2007 Ford Five Hundred Limited AWD with 69,000 and I too have started to notice that the very front edge of the hood has begun to bubble. My CVT transmission just all of a sudden started acting up. It had no pick up on the highway and it revs when changing from drive to reverse or from park to drive.
How many of the Ford Five Hundred or Mercury version have recently found bubbles in the paint where it's starting to rust through on the hood. I have a 2007 Ford Five Hundred with 68,000 miles, that I purchased brand new. Ford isn't taking responsibility. They want to go 60/40 split on an over $1,800 estimate to make this right. That is unacceptable.
I was thinking of buying a 2007 Ford Five Hunderd with 141000 on it. It is a great deal. All of the things that normally go wrong have and have been repaired. It has had all of its maintenence done at Ford and is documented. It has leather and had one owner who was a traveling Sales perdon. It is immaculate. $6000 out the door My only issue is the mileage. ... Read More

I love my '07 Ltd despite the issue with the rear brakes and problem w/ heated seat. Both have been resolved. I have 64,000 miles on mine and hope to go to 200,000 or more. I thought Ford extended the warranty on the rear brakes. Do a search and I think you'll find plenty of discussion on the topic. You're not the only one. The Five Hundred has a real issue with pre-mature brake wear in the rears. I had the same problem. Took it to my mechanic (it was beyond even the extended warranty) and had the problem taken care of. I think they did ... Read More
I own a 2007 Limited Ford 500. I am at 18,000 miles and my warranty expired yesterday. Just yesterday I started hearing a grinding noise from the rear when applying my brakes. I called the dealership only to be told the warranty would not cover the brakes anyway. Never in my life and I have owned lots of cars have I had to replace brakes at 18,000 miles. I will not ... I have a 2006 Montego purchased used in late 2008 with 10k miles. I purchased the vehicle instead of a Toyota Avalon, which was 25-30% more higher in cost with more miles and fewer options. Is this a good idea? Gosh, after having reviewed the 18 or so pages on the forum, it sounds like it may not. My dad is considering one - and will meet with the existing owner tomorrow morning, and will then proceed to his mechanic to have the vehicle inspected. The mileage is 38,000.00 and the private owner is asking $11,000.00. Is this a good deal? It seemed like most of ... Read More

Well - hopefully, this will be a one-shot deal, per the warranty replacement program. Seems like the factory rear brakes were stored in damp conditions, which caused the problem. I just had my done last week under warranty at about 33,000 miles. The rotors were OK, so they just turned them to clean them up and put the new pads on. Here's the warranty letter if you need it. Are you sure the dealer didn't put you into a 2007 Ford Five Hundred. It sounds as though the car you were driving has a CVT transmission. The 2008 Taurus has lots of go and the transmission is very positive. Either you were in the wrong model Ford or there was something really wrong with it.

I've had my 2007 Ford Five Hundred SEL for almost two months now as a company car. I thought I'd share my thoughts with this board. My likes: 1) Excellent space and comfort, love the trunk. 2) Feels safe due to its size 3) Pretty good gas mileage My dislikes: 1) Very bland design 2) Interior design is way behind its competitors... just way too plain. 3) Lack of power. To each his or her own. I think it's a horse apiece. "Taurus" is definitely better than "Five Hundred." BTW there was a 2007 Taurus, which a lot of people seem to forget (ok, it is a forgettable car). It is still Ford's best selling sedan ever. So, having an 08 version makes sense, even if it won't work wonders for the car itself. (And Taurus X is way better than ... Read More
with the person who says that they never saw an ad for the Five-Hundred/Montego or the Freestyle. While I never saw one for the Freestyle or the Five-Hundred, I did see one for the Montego, and it was this young woman saying something along the lines of "This is why I chose Mercury" and was advertising some sort of cash back. And Ford wants to know why the trio never sold... ... Read More
Let me explain, step by step: The stereo controls and LCD are so dated, all the competitions have way better and more intuitive controls. This stereo system (from the Five Hundred), with some tiny uncomfortable controls was first used in the F150 (if I remember correctly), which was praised all over for the beautiful cockpit (a first for Ford in recent years), and so was the climate controls. Since then, Ford ... Read More
If you do away with all of the attention-deficit gizmo's that distract you from the reality you're really buying, the 2008 will be faster and perhaps smoother in the tranny/engine dept. The candy-striped rear tail lights look silly. The new rear wheels don't appear to have the wider visual stance that the current Limited design has. The front end looks like a cross between the 80's L T D stationwagon/Ford Topaz ... Read More

Hello? Anybody home?
Got an internet quote from my local dealer on a 2007 Five Hundred, wondering how good it is, and am open to opinions. It is an SEL model with Power Package, Leather, 6CD stereo, and Convenience Package... He is quoting me invoice price, and telling me he can get me out the door for $23,945 (after tax, title, fees, and minus the rebate). What do you think?
Although I have an Edge on order, I really would prefer a sedan, preferably one with an elevated seating position, and the cargo space of the Five Hundred and Montego is even better for my needs that that in a CUV / SUV. The combination of no telescoping steering wheel and the over-sized boxy console makes it impossible for me to sit comfortably in the current versions, the current interior is ... Read More

From the last paragraph of 7/31/06 Automotive News: "Ford is dropping the continuously variable transmission offered in the Ford Freestyle, Five Hundred and Mercury Montego at the end of the 2007 model year."
I finally drove an Azera limited with the Ultimate package today. It is amazing how much nicer the interior looks in reality than in photographs. Anyone who has any interest in cars and large sedans and who has not actually gone to see and drive one is really missing something. First, the interior makes the interiors of the Five Hundred/Montego looks even worse than they already seem. I once drove a ... Read More
Capital Ford in Raleigh got two SEL's and Town & Country in Charlotte got one. Appears 2007 has the silver painted LTD grill installed on the SEL. Let the summer sell off begin baby! I hope a coach roof and continental spare are available. LOL!
Perhaps I can answer your questions, since I bought a Malibu Maxx instead of a Five Hundred, Montego, or Freestyle (I also considered the Chrysler 300, the Dodge Magnum, the Toyota Tacoma, and the Ford Explorer), and the Maxx replaced my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer). Yes, the Fusion has some 427 cues, but very careful ones. It is edgier than the Five Hundred, but hardly a standout in the mid-size field. The 500 is more like the length of the final Taurus, although many (not all) of its interior dimensions are larger. The Fusion is actually a few inches longer than the original Taurus. It seems that the Lincoln MKS version of the cars will not be out until late 2008, so I wonder if the revised Five Hundred, Montego, and Freestyle will even make it out in 2007? Chrysler sales are faltering and Toyota and so forth are not sitting still, so it is very difficult to understand why Ford is not moving faster. Maybe they don't think the revisions will make a significant ... Read More
The Focus is a much higher volume car for Ford, but they haven't made any significant appearance changes since it came out in 1999. They "promised" a refreshening for 2005, but I can barely see the differences, and I love cars. So I doubt they will change much on the Five Hundred, a lower volume car, externally, for 2008. The whole "buzz" about an early update on the Five Hundred came ... Read More
"What's up with THAT? Isn't it more important to get that engine available as an option in the Five Hundred/Montego, which the media has had a field day calling underpowered?" I just would like to clarify a few things: 1. Which Ford models sold in USA will use the CVT transmission for 2007 model year? As far as I know non. 2. CVT transmissions are capable of handling torque in the 250ft-lbs range. This is demonstrated by Nissan using CVT in Murano with 246ft-lb of torque. Ford chose not to use the CVT transmission in Fusion or 2007 model 500. They ... Read More

Gmctruck - The very first time I sat in a Five Hundred, I tried to pull the steering wheel out. May 13, 2005, 3:31 PM ET by Walter J Keegan Jr. http://www.autoblog.com/ In some ways this is great news. The 3.5-liter Duratec engine is ready for the CD3 sedans next year. Here is the letter I sent to several people at Ford today: The Five Hundred and Montego are at once excellent and greatly disappointing. The cars are beautiful, with an airy open cabin and excellent visibility. The Montego is especially nice, with the two-tone interior, dark fake wood, LED taillights, and HID headlights.
