  • Re: 2005 Deville Latest Repair [bolivar]

Adding to my previous message.... A $200 deductible for each repair is a little steep for me, especially considering how many things have been repaired on this car. And, even with all the repairs, with only a $50 deductible, the current extended warranty probably hasn't been a good deal, I probably haven't covered its cost. So, when my current extended warranty ends, I'm probably going to get rid of this Deville. ... Read More

Had the same problem, checked the internet. The solution is there. Built a bypass resister chain to match the resistance in the key chip, hooked in on the steering column wires under the dash and cut the key out of the loop. Car would not even start before, now starts fine and doesn't need security key. Cheaper than replacing the ignition switch and I could care less if the security system ... Read More

Well, I think you have quite a bit wrong here. If he truly has blown head gaskets on a Northstar, there is more to it than replacing the gaskets and using new head bolts. He will have to have the motor pulled. This is the only way to make the following repair because you cannot reach the rear head to do this. The heads have to be pulled. (If you do ... Read More

    1) Bring up the Oil Life display, then hold down the 'Reset' button until it changes to 100%. About 5 seconds. 2)Push the valet button. Lock the glove box. The trunk cannot be opened with the key. Owner's manuals can be bought very reasonably on eBay. www.helminc.com will sell you a new one. With all the 'stuff' on a Cadillac, you need one, and you need to read it. Lots of ... Read More

My 2002 Seville LS had the torque converter lockup fail, which required the transaxle to be removed so that it could be taken apart. This also means that the engine is removed. The job is a full day (overnight) and so is expensive in terms of labor. My car is still under warranty. However, the Cadillac dealer is new, a Chevy dealer that recently got the franchise when the old Cadillac-Oldsmobile-GMC ... Read More

Am finding your posts on Northstar vs Hemi helpful and informative. I currently own a 2004 Deville but have owned Chryslers in the past, most recently a 1997 LHS, with the V6, 214 HWP. I wouldn't mind owning a 300 C for a second car but at least for now Cadillac is number one with me. Am also considering a 1998 or 1999 Concours for a second car. I liked the ... Read More

Do you know of a consultant or company who would match my repair records with my GMPD extended warranty contract to give me a roadmap, so I could talk with GMPD Warranty Department about the continued electrical problems and the repairs I already paid on my 1999 Cadillac 4Door Sedan Deville? Who should I talk to with the extended warranty division of GMPD? The Cadillac dealer who repaired my car, which ... Read More

  • How old of a used Caddy?

I would highly recommend a 1977-79 Deville. Sensible size, fairly decent gas mileage, excellent 425 V-8. A lot are still on the road. Of more recent Cadillacs, the 1994-99 Cadillacs are good. My 1994 Deville with 4.9 V-8 and 85K miles is still going strong. A nice 1998 or 1999 model base Deville would probably be your best choice. They can be had for very reasonable prices.
