Re: Prelude, TSX, BMW [qbrozen]

the intermediate shaft failures have scared me off the Porsches. I really really wanted to get one this last time out ... just couldn't bring myself to take the risk. The reason for this is actually the oil. The engine was designed for high-zinc oils that are common in Europe and were judged to be minimally acceptable in the U.S. at the time. But the EPA drove the maximum levels to ... Read More

Dealer pricing
Written by: fedlawman on Feb 27, 2012 1:31:23 PM
What is it with these dealers? I went to look at cars (BMW's first) over the weekend and honed in on a CPO 2009 335i coupe. It had nice equipment (leather, nav, etc.) and only 17,000 miles on the odo, but they were asking $40,000 (marked down from $45,000!). I know this car was probably $50,000 new, but really, only $10,000 less than a new one? I bet if I asked ... Read More

I have been to three Audi (in Seefeld Austria) driving schools and one BMW driving school (here in the US in South Carolina). Both schools teach you how to brake, steer and generally gain a pretty high level of control over your car at speeds faster than you are probably able to imagine yourself going "comfortably." I drive my 305HP TL so slowly on Interstate 71S on the way to downtown ... Read More

While I agree Acura should "advance" I feel they do not need to completely change to awd. They did very well in the 90 and 2000s with a front wheel drive setup. The biggest mistake is they lost its passion and have made the car more Buick then BMW. The dropped the low cost integra that got the youth in the door. They made the tsx bloated and its best car ... Here we go again- reviews, sales numbers, is there anything else you base your decisions on? Of course they are getting left behind- always playin catch up to BMW. The point I was trying to make is- Infiniti is spending so much time chasing BMW that they are getting left behind in the dust. Secondly, I base my buying on my own experience with the car and the features that fits my needs. Not like the gullible ones that goes by what some magazine articles states. It's probably unrealistic to expect to pay invoice for a BMW, as there are no dealer "holdbacks" or other back-end, unseen ways that the dealer may make a profit on a below-invoice sale. So if they sell for invoice, they make no profit. They'll make that up somehow (add points to the interest rate, undervalue your trade, all the usual methods.) $500 over invoice is a very good deal, $1500 over ... Read More

I recommend you stay away from Option A, the 2000 328i sedan. Consumer Reports says it is one of the worst cars to own, and I have to agree, having had one for six years. I replaced all kinds of major parts and didn't see an end. I finally traded it in for a 2005 330i. Some times Consumer Reports actually does get it right. I am not convinced they know ... Read More

I'd be tempted to go with the 2000 328i assuming that you can have a pre-purchase inspection performed by a good BMW tech-and it sounds like you already have one. The only problem is the automatic; it may go 200K with no problems and it might go tomorrow. The only decent repair is with a BMW remanufactured unit, and they aren't cheap. I wouldn't pay extra for AWD- just get a ... Read More

Me thinks that you got taken a bit. Why? Well, to buy a new OEM pump will run you $199, and I'm thinking that the installation shouldn't cost but another $150 or so at a reputable shop. The fact is, fuel pumps fail from time-to-time no matter who built the car, and they aren't cheap regardless of the vehicle you're buying them for. Contrast the cost of the fuel pump for ...
