If you can wiggle the top hose and the radiator doesnt' crack right then and there, it has more life in it. If it does crack, better you know now than on the road.

I hear ya, when I got back from Europe, and got back into my 328i, I had BMW envy too. ;-) I actually find that kind of ironic, given that the last time I was in Europe (1996) I had a BMW 318i rental car, and at the time, I had VW envy, as I could not wait to get back home and drive my VR6 Passat GLX 5-Speed. My how ... Read More

Yes, you can rent BMWs in Europe; however, it is more than just a little expensive to rent one with a sizeable engine. When I was working for MBUSA over in Stuttgard (in 1996), due to the fact that I am a Consultant, I was not allowed to drive one of the Company MBs (for insurance reasons). As a result, they rented me several BMWs, which if I remember the pricing, ... Read More

Well, the dealer called late yesterday afternoon and agreed to meet our price of $32,450 for the 2003 325i. My wife and I (she wrote the above posts ... I'm writing this one) were cautiously optimistic. We arrived at the dealer, filled out several forms, waited approximately 1 hour, and then sat down with our salesman. He promptly added a $299 doc fee to our previously agreed price of $32,450. I ... Read More

I'm about a month or two away from being able to pay cash for something in the low to mid 30's -- and I need some help narrowing down the field. I'm impressed with the safety features and the interior/exterior looks of the Volvo S60 2.5T. But I don't like the torque steer, turbo lag, and the slow-to-respond geartronic. I also don't like being forced to have an automatic on that ... Read More

Find a repair shop that can spell "OBDII". ALL 1996-on passenger vehicles are required-by Federal law-to use a standardized diagnostic protocol known a OBDII. While BMW uses proprietary diagnostic tools for some systems such as the SRS and IHKA module, they cannot "lock out" an OBDII compliant diagnostic machine. Thus, an AutoZone store can-and will-be able to read any fault codes set by the on-board diagnostics. Even better, they will do ... Read More

I too have experienced a momentary hesitation before the brakes "Grab" and you start to slow down. Having said that, I have noticed this phenomena on any number of cars from Europe, not just BMWs. The worst offender was my 1995 VR6 Passat GLX in the cold/wet conditions. I did occasionally notice it on my former 328i as well, and to a lesser degree on my current 530i. When I worked ... Read More
