Used 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan Consumer Reviews
Love my Tiguan, But...
Replaced water pump at 64,000 miles,$1,000. Replaced trailing arms at 60,000 mile, $1,000. Facing oil leak cost exceeding $1,000. Brakes are not worn, but feels like rotors are warped. Disappointed that I am incurring these costs at c. 60,000 miles. Still, it is a joy to drive. Considering trading it in for a low mileage 2014-2015 Tiguan. Ex-Audi A4 driver with similar disappointing history of repair costs. And yet...this is a beautiful little SUV

A great 3 year time!
I leased a 2016 Tiguan S for its price. Got it at an unbeatable price of $197 + taxes at 12000 miles/year. We'd a great time in this car and we are sad to part ways with it. Someone rear-ended it else would have brought this car from the dealer. Here's my review - car is attractive (german DNA); driving dynamics are great (being an FWD, it drove better than a 2016 Santa Fe AWD); comfort is great; visibility is awesome; the road presence is commanding; the engine is very powerful (although the initial acceleration is a little lethargic but is great past 2000 rpm); well built body (as mentioned, I was rear-ended by a chevy suburban at a speed of 30 MPH at a signal at a steep descent road of SFO downtown. The vehicle absorbed all the shock OUTSIDE but didn't pass much inside. No airbags were deployed). I handled the vehicle well and got it serviced regularly so got a mileage of ~28 mpg on highways/long trip and about ~17 in the Bay Area traffic, this averaging between 22 to 23 mpg (went by the average usage per month & the expense of gasoline to arrive at this figure); Decent audio with enough bass. There are some nasty issue in this specific model - Cruise control is stupid (happened so many times especially on highways that I reduce the speed but the system resets to the previous speed thus resulting in unintended acceleration instead of deceleration; speed doesn't stay at the set speed while descending hills, in increases instead; both situations are scary); Heater is awful (because of the pointed direction of vents, you'll feel that your right-hand fingers are burning even when the setting is at the 'low' level; after a few mins, all the passengers will feel discomfort with the heater even when it's low). Surprisingly, the local VW dealer says that VW is not aware of such issues on a "mass scale" and says that if a problem like that exists, VW would have acted on it immediately. Other 'manageable' issues are - Battery issues (I need to press that ON/OFF button twice); Breaks aren't that great (take a little more distance before coming to halt); Navigation voice over Bluetooth is lost for 1-2 sec for every direction (Google says "In two-miles, take an exit..." but you'll hear only "take an exit.."); only small bottle holders in the rear doors; very less cabin space (but shouldn't be a deal breaker since this falls between a compact & subcompact SUV); the use of only-91-octane gasoline fuel for the turbocharged engine. Despite all these problems, the overall experience of the vehicle was just great. Hopefully, the 2018/19 models have these problems fixed.

Best Car I've Ever Owned
I have owned several VWs over the years and actually my old 1990 Jetta was my favorite car. I loved it so much and cried when it died. I've owned other brands but, always seem to go back to Volkwagen. I had been looking for a compact SUV that was fun to drive. I really had not seen Tiguans or heard much about them in this area. But, around here the mid or larger SUVs are the norm. I tried a very other SUVs when my husband found a Tiguan and he really liked what he saw. He suggested I check it out. It was a 2016 SE in Panther Grey. I have not owned the car for very long but, am head over heels. While the familar VW feel is there, it also has it's same karma or essence. But, is far more luxurious then any VW I've ever had. From the steering wheel that doesn't have that hard plastic feel of most cars, to the comfortable seating and the easy to use but, somewhat techy media, navigation system to the beautiful, upscale interior and fun as heck sun roof system, it's like nothing else I've ever had. I love to drive it, even in heavy traffic (which is unusual for me) as it has a calming feel and like you are in control. The handling it amazing. Takes corners with confidence and hugs the road like nothing else. I honestly do not think I could enjoy a car more or love one as much. It is a really special car.

Best car ever
Great car, this car does require premium gas and is slightly more in repairs but well worth the money.
