Used 2002 Volkswagen Golf Consumer Reviews
Golf GL
Great interior, solid feel, ABS standard, side air-bags standard. Costs a bit more than a Focus but what a difference in feel and overall quality.
So far So good
I bought mine new and have 28K miles on it. My left headlight and the right brake light didn't work at 27 K. Had to take it to dealer and replaced it(Warranty). I haven't had any engine problems at all except that it drinks a lot of oil and I keep 2 quarts in my trunk. I asked the dealer last week and he told me to bring in next time the oil shows half in the dip stick and they would do an oil consumption test. One more thing. My doors get stuck in freezing winter and have to use force to open. Recently I hear light noise from my AC grill. Got to get it done soon! But overall I like my car. Has been very reliable and fun and looks nice!

review
VW should close it's faxtory in Mexico. Too many problems with VW Golf GLS 2.0 Ring job (At 18000 miles to reduce oil cosumtion), passenger power window (twice), headlight, poor gas mileage (should do 33-35 on highway), Great expectations, poor reality.
Forget the 2.0L motor
The TDI motor is well worth the extra $1000 over the 2.0L motor. It has so much low-end torque, it makes it extremely driveable and fun. It has some features you cannot get for this price, such as Heated mirrors & Heated seats. The plastics has a nice soft touch feel to it, very pleasing to touch. Fuel economy? 54 mpg on the highway. It stretches to fuel bill well.
Lemon or Not
This is my 3rdtime taking the 02 Golf in for service. The 1st problem -the auto transmission would get stuck in Park, and thus wasn't driveable. Dealer first made "an adjustment" which subsequently was unsuccessful. 2nd time I brought the car for service, they replaced a "celanoid-something" to correct it. I've taken the car in for the 3rd time because there is sometimes a long delay engaging into Drive or Reverse. Upon engaging, the car jerks. When having an intermittent problem like this, it is hard for service dept. to fix, if they haven't encountered it. Next they will reprogram the transmission control board
